‘Muzungu Anikonde’ Zambian Directors At LAFARGE Cement Named, Refuses To Put Employees On Permanent

Lafarge cement has up to now not given its unionized employees their 2012 salary increment. Their conditions of service document expired on the 30th of June 2012, meaning that employees are working without conditions of service. Up to now management has failed to come up with new conditions of service for its workers.

Management is offering its lowly and poorly paid employees K117,000 SALARY INCREMENT FOR THIS YEAR BUT THE UNION EXECUTIVE HAS REFUSED. Lafarge Director Fola Esan, has been intimidating union Executives and union workers with dismissals incase they tried to down tools. The top Lafarge Management has been living luxury and expensive lifestyles at the expense of its employees, they have awarded themselves with huge weekly allowances about 8times the basic salary of the lowest paid employee. THEY PAY SOME EXPATRIATES WHO ARE DOING NOTHING HUGE SALARIES, ALMOST SOME ONES PENSION. Lafarge Director must be deported to france for mistreating employees, the worst director of all, HR Director Bitchrice mutambo mutati, Mwewa Kapepula and Yotamu Viyuyi must also go. ‘’ A REVOLUTION IS COMING AND THEY WONT STOP US, WE SHALL MAKE SURE THE ABOVE NAMED MANAGERS GO”.

We appeal to President Sata to live by his words, He has promised to provid decent and formal jobs to the youths but He is not doing anything about their casualisation. At Lafarge, most employees are on short term contracts and have worked for more than 10 years on contracts. When we try to protest, we are threatened with letters of dismissals.

“OUR DIRECTOR IS ANTI PF, HE IS A FRIEND OF MMD, WHEN HE FOUND A PORTRAIT FOR MR SATA OUR RECEPTION, HE ALMOST FIRED THE EMPLOYEES WHO PUT IT THEIR AND IMMEDIATELY HAD IT REMOVED”. “LARFAGE HAS NEVER UP TO NOW SENT A CONGRATULATORY MASSAGE TO PF FOR THEIR VICTORY”. Our Government, please help us we have suffered long enough.

MR SATA, WE ARE APPEALING TO YOUR OFFICE TO ADDRESS THE FOLLOWING:

1. END TO CASUALISATION BY PUTTING ALL UNIONISED EMPLOYEES ON PERMANENT

2. OUR CONDITIONS OF SERVICES TO BE SIGNED AND EFFECTED BEFORE JULY MONTHENED.

3. OUR SALARIES TO BE INCREASED ACCORDING TO OUR DEMANDS(30%) AND ALSO TO HYAVE OUR SALARIES TO BE HARMONIZED WITH LUSAKA WHO ARE GETTING MORE THAN US, THE COMPANY HAS CAPACITY TO DO SO. WE KNOW HOW THEY WASTE AND STEAL MONEY.

4. REMOVAL AND REPLACEMENT OF 3TOP MANAGERS.

CONCERNED EMPLOYEES

Investors have taken zambians for granted especially foreign ones and they threaten their employees with all sorts of punishment once they talk about their rights and it is not fair enough. The reason is simple, joblessness is what is causing all this, nothing else. When are we going to have a listening govt which will look into the security of workers in these private owned companies. God knows, Lafarge is a huge monopolistic company which should not misbehave in that manner, also those in front representing us are equally useless, they like leaking a white man’s ass.

Its true all hope dashed now. We helped and voted for them hoping so that we can have more money in our pockets but it was just a campain thing. Their are all the same. Even most law firms have not increased salaries for thier workers this year and when asked this one law firm said that they are so many people looking for jobs no increament but they are busying buying new cars and building new houses and buying plots for themselves. Government is not helping us in anyway. Look into most law firms conditions of services and salaries they are pathetic. But most lawyers are driving most expensive cars and living in nice houses.

People can be dull, workers in Europe and USA are losing their jobs because of these salary increments being forced on companies by Governments. Barclay’s International, HSBC bank recently dismissed hundreds of thousands of workers worldwide because of recession. The same will happen to workers in Zed if they keep bitching, and it’s usually the trouble makers who are dismissed first. Wage increases usually lead to unemployment.

Zambians everywhere must say no victimization anywhere .However,ZAMBIANS CHANGE YOUR ALTITUDE TOWARD EACH OTHER. Be it in the compounds bafyatile you would rather embrace a foreigner on the expense of your fellow zambian. You go to business centres for instance ,you have foreigners occuping the stands. Can the government intervan please so that our brothers and sisters are given what they deserve. It must be remembered that this is one of the basis on which pf came into power. ZAMBIA NEEDS A SAVIOR INDEED. Just in case Nevers Mumba concludes we are for mmd. Please know that it is mmd that has left this mess.MMD GO to hell! Upnd be on your own and leave the rotten mmd if you’re to be relavant to the whore nation

given a chance therse brothers and sister would leave for better employment, but the question is WHERE AND WHEN? So they keep toiling for the little they get, better than nothing. Lafarge management realy needs a touch-up, and Sata and some of his men are getting complecant, this must have ended by now. Give no room for such nonsence.

    @ Pulamasaka,
When Chilanga Cement was under Zambian management things were far worse than now. Nepotism was rampant and corruption/stealing was the order of the day. If labourers from the loading bay and security guards were tycoons what more those in management? Chilanga cement was on its knees by the time it was sold despite being a monopoly in the cement industry.

This is not a way to address grievances at a place of work. Insults, lies, exaggerations will not get employees far. Granted there are issues at Lafarge Zambia, they are not as bad as portrayed here.
Fola is a decent man and he is trying to do a decent job of keeping the company afloat so that you can keep your jobs. The other mentioned managers may be bad but they are not monsters as portrayed; they are just incompetent and have overstayed. I agree that replacing them will be the right step in the right direction for now. But please give Fola a chance and he will clean up that place and sanity will come. Employees can help themselves by staying dedicated and doing what they are hired to do so that the company can have the means and motivation to do right by them all the time.

Every thing said above is right on and valid .APART from the part of someone not being PF. Thats rubbish. Defeats the entire complaint. If you have logical points then stick to that no the useless issue of politics..very childish and so typical of kaponya mentality.

Sorry my brothers and sisters for what you are going thru at Lafarge. Please, take heart not all is lost. The peolple of Zambia are resilient and there is time for everything. Whoever is making you suffer like this will not go unpunished.I will personally take up this matter and the results are on the way. This is not the first time issues like these have resurfaced thru TUMFWEKO and have been harmoniously sorted out. We are all with you. Take care. BUT UBUFI MULEKE, DO NOT OVERBLOW ISSUES.
