Teacher Hands Himself Over To Police After Battering Catholic Nun

A Lusaka’s Roma Girls School Teacher Who On Saturday beat up an acting Headteacher has handed himself in the hands of the police.
Daswell Sichilongo handed himself to the police a few minutes after beating Ema Chakupaleza a catholic Nun and has since been formally arrested and charged with assault.
Mr Sichilongo’s action came after Sister Chakupaleza locked the house he occupied for alleged failure to settle rentals amounting to One Thousand, Five Hundred Kwacha.
His family is still locked out and had to spend Saturday night in the house of one of the neighbours.
Meanwhile the Professional Teachers Union PROTUZ has strongly condemned Mr Sichilongo’s action saying a teacher should always promote a culture of dialogue and refrain from brutality when aggrieved.
And Ministry of Education Spokesperson Hillary Chipango says the Ministry will await the outcome of police investigations before instituting disciplinary action against Mr Sichilongo.

The problem with most catholic schools is that they feel teachers are their workers who can be treated like their garden boys.Unions are aware of this let catholics and other mission schools employ their own teachers

To start with Nuns are God fearing people who should not treat other people brutally. The Nun locked the teacher for failing to pay K1,500.00 which is un human. She was going to find a way of sorting out the matter more especially that she is the head teacher at the same time a woman of God.As the head teacher she leads different people of different back ground and as a child of God she has to exerxcise tolerance. The teacher as well was not suppose to beat the nun. However the nun should also be charged becasue she will do the same thing again to the other teachers.Chona muzako chapita mumaba cili paiwe

PLEASE PLEASE LET THE SCIENCE TEACHER OUT OF POLICE CUSTODY AND JUST WARN HIM, AND ALSO WARN THE NUN DUE TO:
    1. If the man’s house was not locked by the so called nun, there wasn’t going to be violence at all.
    2. The NUN was so supposed to lead into dialogue, after knowing the circumstances of the science teacher.
    3. Exposing the Man’s family to the cold during this cold season should be looked into during the investigations.
    4. They are both learned; the nun and the man, so both displayed behaviors not befitting their education.
    5. The male teacher is human who has emotions like any other person, so his reaction MUST be understood and be forgiven, ‘for beating so much’ otherwise his actions are justifiable at law. Plea ‘Not Guilty’ in the box. Any straight thinking Judge WILL acquit that man of wrong doing.

The major culprit in this issue is the Nun.As Head of the School, she is supposed to know what problems her teachers are facing. If the story as said by Mr Sichilongo is correct, there was no reason to lock up the house without giving notice to the family.
Mr Sichilongo’s reaction is OVER BEATING the nun was equally excessive.
The official from the Teachers Union must be ashamed of himself. His comments even before he got the full details from both sides was uncalled for.On the other hand, the Ministry of Education spokesperson was more mature and well reasoned.
Finally, depending on what action will be taken the losers at the end will be the pupils who are about to write their exams.I urge everybody to`be sober and and sort this issue amicably.

The law is clear on assault and GBV mr sichilongo. What the teacher commited is a criminal offence regardless of whether he was unhappy abt the locking of his house. The locking of the house is jst a moral or if he wanted to go to court- civil case. Be careful with the law. Muzangena ba sichilongo even tho the nun had also gone to the extreme.

Let us not be one sided on this issue,in the first place why lock the house as if he refused to pay.how would you feel if this was happening on you?

Is the nun not well ab raised with issues of tenancy?
she should understand that she contributed more to this wrangle than bury Mr.sichilongo all headed in this issue.
Mr. sichilongo should also mind his temper.
Enough to help the illiterate police officers handling this case please provide guiding advise to these people.is this not a big issue.

I think the scribe from Muvi is to blame. How did she get the info about the locking of the house. She must have been called by Sichilongo and due to lack of skills with most Muvi Tv staff she thought she was going to have a story.
She should have first approched the nun without the teacher than provocking the situation as she did and changed that she has witnessed GBV.
The reporting was bad because we do not know why he is paying rent if at all he is employed by them. The scribe did not give details they always do that most of the time without giving guidance to the masses or rather give informed data to the public.
Be proffesional people run to you not only for you to give out the information but l think its your duty to give them correct plain legal advise.

      July 22, 2014 at 3:52 pm

It is Sichilongo who called Muvi to say I have a new story for you. If the beating was not planned for well in advance, then Sichilongo must have suffered from temporary insanity. Not only was he punching the nun and kicking her. He was also seen dragging her outside with a view to inflict more punishment on her.

Pistorius, you’re right, very right!! SARS!!! Surely. A nun is not fit to rule over a community such as a school. She is not acquainted with pressures of family as her rank & file. Surely, even me, NGA ALIPONOKA IN REALITY. Why not raise the case with the payroll controller? Chipuba can sister ici!!

  27. TRU DAT

    July 21, 2014 at 3:39 pm

Whilst this is all bad. Consider the following data:
The Teacher failed to pay rent at subsides rate of K200/Month. Where in Lusaka do you pay such low rate?
Seven continuous months of not paying rent.

Notice to resolve issue was given, not only to him to other tenants. Not once several times.
    Think about it.

Muvi should have been more security conscious. Immediately the fight started the camera man should have stopped the fight instead of waiting that long. Or could it be that you wanted it that way so that you spice up your news? Muvi please try to be ethical. Last night again you showed the severed private parts of another GBV victim when you could have just shown his face.

The Nun needs to be disciplined. Is she really a christian 2 start with?? How do u lock a family out? She could hav used other methods i.e instituting payrol deduction & not locking pipo out from a house she even never built. This goes 2 show that some of these so called christians are actually devils

Poor man! GBV when the sister provoked it??? The pleaded his family locked out but the “sister of charity’ refused to reason. As much as it would not have gotten to such extremes, some kindness should have been exhibited. The lady has given instruction that the poor guy remains locked up until she is out of hospital, when she serves a God of Love. Please pay back evil with good, his family is out in the cold, have mercy…..

ASSUMING THE POOR LADY WAS KILLED BY THE AGGRIEVED PERSON WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED? WE WOULD BE WATCHING THE CORPSE AND PRAISING THE JOURNALIST FOR A GOOD MOVIE?
