Kenneth Kaunda

Kenneth Kaunda

First republican President Kenneth Kaunda has been cautioned to be wary that he will leave a massive problem if he continues being mute amidst heightened tribal divisions in Zambia.
Dr. Kaunda is being encouraged to share the wisdom he was using to unite Zambians during his tenure as Head of State to the current crop of leaders in the country.
The opposition Alliance for Democracy and Development (ADD) has particularly called on Dr. Kaunda to come on board in resolving the raging issue of the Barotseland Agreement of 1964.

ADD President Charles Milupi says in view of the fact Dr. Kaunda is the only alive of the three signatories to the Barotseland Agreement, is the right person that can give an interpretation on the issue.
Mr. Milupi says much as it is difficult in the African set up for a young person to give counsel to elder people like Dr. Kaunda, he is of the view that when one has had the privilege to serve in the highest office of the land such a privilege is bestowed by the nation.
He has told Qfm News in an interview that this means that the greatest service of such an individual ought to be always to the nation and not the government of the day.
The ADD president says such an individual, as is the case for Dr. Kaunda and Mr. Rupiah Banda, is supposed to be reflecting on the views of the nation.
He states that especially that whatever benefits a former Head of State has worked for these are his or her rights and no government can take away such benefits.
Mr. Milupi advised that former Heads of State should therefore not make themselves servants to the governments of the day just because of fear that they will not get their benefits.

I think he is talking sense bane. This issue seems to be advancing like ubulwele mumubili. I hear the international court ruled in their favour that they are given their national flag last thursday. The earlier this issue is tabled the better. I just wonder why this issue is still coming out. Bring it out and we the people will decide on it. Uufisa ubulwele ashala amafupa yekayeka.

Lungu has never created any of the problems we are going through.Surely how do we insult the person who has come to help leaving those who created them? Which country in the world is not having problems? The best part is that the noise is coming from those who didn’t and will never vote for lungu.

George W. BUSH created a hell of problems for America in the Middle East he left presidency 7 years ago and the Middle East is still burning with battles, is Obama not trying to settle what his predecessors left behind? Has anyone called GW Bush to go back to Middle East to sort things out? Learn from global geopolitical affairs before you naively start defending issues you barely understand.

Kaunda does not belong to any tribe in Zambia. so he could afford to be neutral, tribally!

He dreamt of the day when all Zambians could loose their tribes, in tendem with his own position – but that was utopian! Tribes shall continue to exist in Zambia for a long time to come. All that are needed are governance, administrative, and management skills to bring development in diversity to bear.

As for arotseland, this has need an internationally recognised nation-state since 1892! But, where was Zambia then?

@ddd…no dear I am not a foolish lozi. The only vice we need to fight right now is tribalism and not separating ourselves from others. Some of us are married to other tribes, what happens when we are separated? This Barotseland agreement does have a lot of merits. However you are entitled to your own opinion.
