The Ministry of Education has confirmed that as per advert the minimum qualification for the teacher recruitment exercise for primary teachers, just like for secondary, is a teacher’s diploma.
The ministry spokesperson Hillary Chipango was responding to a press query from the Zambian Teachers Forum Media this morning.
Mr. Chipango reminded the ZTF Media that the ministry has been in a process of phasing out the certificate qualification.
Government is expected to recruit 5000 teachers this year. According to the advert inviting teachers to apply the primary certificate holders have been left out.
Only teachers with early childhood qualifications as well as primary diploma, secondary diploma and secondary degree shall be considered for the jobs.

I only hope they have absorbed all certificate holders into service before phasing out the certificate because they are the ones who trained them.
It will be nonsensical to train people and later on reject the qualification you conferred on them.

Now, what do we do with all those certificate holders you churned out in the last 2 years. Anyway, it is an improvement for the Zambia Child. All you teachers with certificates, it time to go back for studies. Remember to chase after a degree, a diploma may just be overtaken by events.

This is a nonsensical & sad news to a radical & proactive adult as a lot of teachers with certificates were not deployed since 2011 & worst still a good number of colleges registered by TAVETA are todate still offering certificates! This is an absurdity & inconsistency in this sector!
