CBU Students Turns to President Lungu For Help

lungu e2The Copperbelt University Students Union (COBUSU) has called on President Edgar Lungu to listen to the cries of the hundreds students at CBU and open the institution.

And the students union has stated that the allegations by the Minister of Education Dr. Michael Kaingu that students are compromised are not true.

COBUSU President Humphrey Mwenya has told QFM News that the much publicized and anticipated 31st July 2015 University Council meeting date for announcement of the opening date, as earlier stated, is quiet obvious and unfortunate that no tangible conclusive solution has been arrived at regarding opening of CBU.

Mr. Mwenya says for two years now students and other prescribed members of council have been denied the chance to seat on the board saying it is a serious breach of the Higher Education Act which mandates them to seat and make decisions on council.

He has disclosed that the students at the second highest institution have embarked on an ‘OPEN CBU CAMPAIGN’ and they are engaging all stakeholders to join in the campaign so that the vulnerable CBU student can go back to class.

Mr. Mwenya has since called on President Lungu to seriously considering interfering in the situation saying it is too much now.

It is extremely simple. Ask the lecturer to stop issuing ultimate and the University will be open. Very simple.

This country needs Kambwili type of leadership. We voted sata becoz we knew that he will be forceful. Minister of education pliz discipline those lecturers. You closed the institution to give yourself time to negotiate or replace them. Go nurse way and re engage those who are willing.

Hon.Kaingu, it’s taking forever for you people to help these students. Can you please tell us why this ‘elephant’ has become too big for you to handle. It’s the students that are suffering instead.

Every child however intelligent or physically a bully will at one point or another turn to the father for help or guidance in whichever form. Its good the cbu students have realised that there is somebody who can help. Please do not relent. Knock on his door until he opens.

The Students were in support of the lecturers; see now who is suffering. COBUSU arrange a meetingwith the lectures and plead with them to go back to class.
