SAD: Mansa Grade 6 Pupil Buried Alive

Thirteen-year old school boy has died in Mansa in Luapula Province after being buried alive, while excavating sand for use in a school
project.
The boy died when the pit he and other pupils at Milambo Primary School were digging to get building sand caved in and killed him instantly.
Frantic efforts were made to rescue him when the accident happened but the rescue team found he had already suffocated by the time he was
being retrieved.
Luapula Province Police chief Hudson Namachila, identified the deceased as Michael Kunda.
He said Kunda who was doing his sixth grade was part of a group of pupils that were digging building sand meant for the construction of a school block.
Mr Namachila said the boy’s parents refused to have a postmortem performed on the body because there was no foul play involved.
The parents have also indicated that they would not take any legal action against the school authorities for the death of the pupil.

This country is full of nonsense, how can a grade 6 pupil be doing Government’s work, digging sand for building a government building? Alter rubbish, lack of visionary leaders in this country has cost a life of a young soul, whose only job was supposed to be learning and learning until he is grown up to contribute to the nation’s economy, the money that will be spent in lubansenshi and kasama would have saved the life of that kid. Let get lead of these pf chaps in 2016 bane.

@Heater, I’ll agree with partially. The bigger part I am so mad about is where the school admin fail to supervise the pupil. This is so because, even at the time when KK was building us schools and giving us ALL the school requisites, we had manual work after classes. Whatever we did, the teacher was there to supervise. Even muku gandule iloba for molding utudoli, teachers were there. Today these darn arse teachers just send kids unsupervised, even mukukwempa and remain scratching their pubic hairs! MAN!!!! Would it that I was in education!!!

Kakolwe naiwe not ifya partially, just agree with me in totality,KK’s time there was humanism, you was forced to do duty for ya country, these it’s called community participation fimofimo, and it’s parents and government who supposed to be involved not pupils, have seen it in many rural areas.

TOTALLY AGREED! Kanshi uli kamano. As JJB has said below, Now am empowered to say ALL that is abuse. The children in rural areas are being abused coz of their poverty. But to lose a life out of negligence & we say HH will come & sort this out is as stoopid as those parents saying “tukoikalapofye, kabili milimo yesukulu alikubomba elo kyamudilikila, katusye mukibote”
Gosh! Just the thought of it is tilting my emotional barometer into the red Zone.

Uwii! Alila webo katubulu kakolwe wasekesa, ukankuteko kumyenu enkese kulyako fless fiss, webo ubwafya kano ubikemo umubiyo, mwilyasi lyonse. Frankly speaking that is really sad politics aside, pupils in rural areas deserve better.

We even used to bring thatching grass ‘Ulweo’ from homes all your own sources. But it looked normal its only when I have stayed in Mzanzi and Botswana I realised its abuse. There is totally no manual labour for kids whats so ever! Even sending your own kid to sweep the yard can sue you for abuse or report you to childline (NGO) who can sue your arse on his/her behalf.

It is stupid to say ‘they’d not take the school authorities to book’. DEBS, take action. The school authority ought to have a Child Protection Policy. Those kids must not have been mining for sand ‘unsupervised’. A teacher MUST have accompanied the pupils at the quarry. So, carelessness and lack of supervision have made us lose a child.
Do you have organisations like plan international, CHIN, you need to move in & deal with those careless school authorities.

Indeed.Does it mean the children were mining the sand without teacher presence? Disciplinary action should be taken by the DEBS.

This is being stupid and a pumbafu for that matter surely how do u allow pupils to dig sand for construction of a school? What is the contractor doing or uyu chikala headmaster doing? Where have they taken all the funds? This matter shud be taken further coz teti balande ati foul was not involved, how sure r they? Why only one child was buried nga bambi bali kwisa? Manual work and construction of a school nafipusana ni child abuse iyi. To me the parents are not concerned limbi te mwana wabo coz one is supposed to be furious with the happenings unless otherwise. Elo futi bakana na postmotem. Kupata umwana uku bane. Find the root cause so that it does not happen again, ukutumpa. MHSRIP

What kind of a joke is this?Ati we won’t press charges….iwe if you really know the cost of raising a child, you will not desgust me with such statements. That child needs to be compasated for having been used without supervision. Also some one has to explain why those children were sent to work in a dangerous place. Why must we losse a life before we learn a thing.
