Some female students at the Evelyn Hone College have accused a named Lecturer at the institution of sexual harassment.
The students have told QFM News that the named lecturer has been making sexual advances to them, and that those who turndown his advances are made to fail assignments.
The students who sought anonymity say they have tried to report the lecturer to higher authorities at the college but that nothing has been done.
But when contacted for a comment, Evelyn Hone College Principal Daniel Fwambo says the college management is not aware of any issue of its member of staff sexually harassing students.
Mr Fwambo says it is extremely sad that the students for whatever reason did not report the matter to the management through the normal procedure and instead rushed to the media.
He says students should not always give a bad name of the institution especially that the school has a policy of constructive engagement with the students on issues be it academic or non academic issues.
Mr Fwambo states that he has not received any such report from the dean of students of any student, stating that management would have investigated and acted had any such report been received.
And Ministry of Education the Ministry of Education says it will investigate the matter and ensure that necessary action is taken.
Spokesperson Hillary Chipango says it is sad that a lecturer who is entrusted to impart knowledge in students would want to use his authority for sexual favors.
And the Zambia National Women’s Lobby says the situation is unacceptable and should not be tolerated.
ZNWL Board Chairperson Beauty Katebe says there is need for thorough investigations into the matter to exactly find out why the lecturer has been allowed to abuse the female students.
Ms. Katebe says it is unfortunate that some female students might have given in urging girls to be strong and not allow themselves to be taken advantage of.

As a country we need to come to terms with the ever increasing moral decay.these girls look more enticing by the day and it sends mixed signals to the weak minded. We may not like it but it’s reality.

Useless and baseless article. The issue of lectures going out with their students is very common in all Zambian Universities and colleges.
Nowadays some lectures are almost the age mates to the students.
So leave the lecture alone.

Lazy female students are good at making such allegations. Male students also fail but they work harder to make up.

Most NGOs shock me with their stereotypical approach to sexual issues. When it is rumoured tht a MAN did this or that, they use all their vocabulary to condemn and threaten. However, when a WOMAN is arrested or there’s undeniable evidence of some form of GBV, they are ‘loudly silent’. Consider the current issue at the college where there’s no evidence and the 15 year old boy’s case where the old lady has been arested. Let these NGOs show consistence and fairness if they’re to remain relevant in the fight against GBV as both male and female need their support.

Since management is not aware, there’s a high possibility that these Hone girls’ allegations are baseless, may be they are a type that actually fails coz they are too busy with ‘life’ and have no ample time to research for assignments and they want to blame their lecturer. Let these NGOs show consistence and fairness if they’re to remain relevant in the fight against GBV as both male and female need their support.

the societ is jst too hash on teacher ‘n lecturers. jst last year over 6000 pupils were bonked by members of da society including high ranking officials’n fell pregnant, some were even married off to older useless men just 4 money or cattle. but wen a 25 year old graduate teacher propose an eighteen year old grade 12 pupil or a 28 year old lecturer propose a 23 year old student, da whole societ is against. dats not fair, leave da lecturer alone, he has da right to propose ‘n da students ‘re mature enough to either say yes or no.
