ELIZABETH CHATUVELA, Mongu
A 30-YEAR-OLD woman and three toddlers from the same family have drowned after a boat in which they were travelling capsized on Zambezi River.
Western Province commissioner of police Charles Zulu said in an interview yesterday that the incident happened on Monday around 16:30 hours at Mashika in Nangweshi.
Mr Lungu named the dead woman as Monde Katembo while the toddlers were Mwanangombe Wamundila, aged nine months, Mwangala Likando, who was 18 months old, and Elizah Likando aged one-year-nine-months.
He said the family was travelling with two other women identified as Masialeti Lyumbo, 25, and Mulibebe Lyumbo, who managed to swim ashore together with the coxswain, Kennedy Likote, 51.
“Mr Likote reported that the canoe carrying six people capsized while he was paddling and he and two others survived,” Mr Lungu said.
He said the bodies have been retrieved and postmortem was conducted at Senanga General Hospital.

We in the upnd are saddened by this and would like to pass our condolences. It hurts us that many years after independence we are still losing lives due to unregulated water travel by the pf. People are suffering so much that they would rather risk lifr on canoe than pay high prices of other modes of transport. Vote upnd bane

We find it hard that someone seeking the public office should be so careless and do politics on tribal lines. We call GBM behavior and approach to politics in this sense as backwardness.
We have said it before and we will say it here. Tribal politics will never win any one votes to lead the country. If these are the politics GBM has learnt in the few months he has been in the opposition, then we can confirm to him in advance, that he will never be in leadership of this country in a long time to come.
GBM made a stop over in Kasama and said the following words;
“balimisula, balimitana na vice president. Mulomo wenu mweba Bemba, muli bamulomo. Bushe Mukabwekeshapo?!!!
