Government has released K576.6 million for civil servants salaries for the month of September, 2015.
This brings the total amount of funds released for payment of salaries since January to K8.6 billion.
Ministry of Finance Public Relation Officer Chileshe Kandeta in a statement says it is expected that the released funds will be credited to the accounts of workers within 24 hours, in accordance with the service level agreements signed with various commercial banks and in the spirit of the enhanced cash and treasury management reforms which the government is undertaking.
Mr Kandeta says it is not the intention of government to snap the patience of workers in paying salaries in a timely manner.
He says in line with government’s commitment to the plight of workers, the treasury will endeavor to pay salaries timely and before the end of every single month.
Meanwhile the Ministry of Finance says the Development Bank of Zambia has recived K171 million for the purchase of hammer-mills in order to empowerment Zambian citizens and boost food security programs.
Mr Kandeta says the Public Service Micro-Finance Company received K30 million for concessional loans to public service workers, the Ministry of Youth Sport and Child Development received K11 million for the youth empowerment program, Citizen Economic Empowerment program K10 million and Zambia Cooperative Federation received K4.2 million for farming implements.
He says to date, the government has also released K3 billion for various road related programs such as construction of roads and bridges, maintenance, rehabilitation and upgrade, axle load control, and feasibility studies.
Mr Kandeta says further, upon receipt of works certificates from provincial authorities, the government has released K120 million towards the ongoing program of establishment of new districts.
He adds that ZESCO has been given K352 million for recapitalisation while the Lusaka South Multi-Facility Economic Zone [MFEZ] received K25 million for continuous development of the facility in line with government’s industrialization and diversification strategies.

Those are serious signs of failure by the GOVT. One day the civil servants will be told that they will not be paid for one month.
To a wise person these are signs of an underlying problem.
We should be wary of our future with this GOVT and party – PF.

Thats shallow @Xeno. That money is owed as salaries to the workers, and are being paid, what’s positive about it? ati viva… people are being paid wahts due to them ati viva PF?… Ba PF guys whats really wrong with your reasoning guys? Govt doesnt even need to “release” and announce, all you need to find in a well planned economy is just your salary in your account by the monthend. Nothing to go to the media about and announce “release of salaries”. Foolish Govt.

I cant agree more. This is the first time I ve seen government publicise release of salaries. You can imgine how bad things must be for the release of salaries to be an issue and it is squrely due to Sata who increased even the minimum wage. And right now judiciary workers are calling for salary increment nonsense. When you go to the High court in Lusaka you cant even find parking space,All spaces are taken up by these wortheless lazy fools with their ka Benz driving leader.

But the value of the money to be received by civil servants has been reduced. An increment to justify the delay was going to help than mere empty words.

Try to make teachers happy with a thick cash for our nation’s bright future.

Ba xenophobia, these salaries for government workers usually are paid by 17th of every month. By 20th, all have been paid. This money must already be there not “being made available” because that’s telling us that it was used elsewhere and was not there. It has been found to pay people now days late. Viva UPND, Viva HH.

A good and honest Govt does accept things are bad its only upon acceptance of failure that others chip in to help, me included. Look at Greece, things became too bad it was no more a political issue but a national, all parties and citizens jumped in to find a way out of the economic mess. PF will go to the grave still saying NO – Hence the proverbial, ukufwa na no!

How did they (govt) think civil servants to feed their families? indeed any person who is normal and has regard for others this is a sign of failure on the PF side. We are yet to hear A Chikwanda (Finance minister) announcing that there will be no enough money to pay civil servants for two months.
