TRANSPORT, Works, Supply and Communications Deputy Minister Mutaba Mwali says it will be naïve for anybody to attribute the country’s current economic problems to mismanagement by the Government.
Dr Mwali said there was need for everyone to admit that while the country was facing challenges, the problems were not peculiar to Zambia alone.
He said Zambia was affected by the downturn in China’s economy given that the Asian country was among the biggest players and Zambia’s major market for copper.
Dr Mwali was speaking in Lilongwe yesterday when he paid a courtesy call on Zambia’s High Commissioner to Malawi Salome Mwananshiku in Lilongwe.
This is according to a statement released yesterday by First Secretary for press at the Zambian Embassy in Lilongwe Chansa Kabwela.
The deputy minister is in Malawi to attend a one-day meeting under the auspices of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) over the development of water transport in the region.
“It will be naïve of anybody of a sound mind to attribute the current problems in the country to economic mismanagement by the Patriotic Front Government.
“The same problems we have in Zambia are being felt by other countries in the region, on the continent and outside the continent. We are feeling the effects of the economic problems in China and unfortunately our partners in the mining industry rush to laying off workers whenever the price of copper drops,” he said.
Dr Mwali attributed the power deficit to Zambia’s overdependence on hydro energy over the years as well as last year’s poor rainfall pattern which saw water levels reduce in the Kariba Dam and other rivers in the country.
However, Dr Mwali assured that the Government was actively working to address the problems people were facing such as importing electricity from Mozambique to mitigate the power crisis.
He wondered how the drop in the currency or the falling copper prices could be attributed to alleged mismanagement by Government when many other copper producing countries were feeling the effects of the slump.
The meeting in Lilongwe involved Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique and sought to look at the results of a feasibility study that was commissioned over the navigability of the Shire Zambezi Waterway.

What is so difficult about shutting up when you have nothing sensible to say?You were praising yourselves over massive infrustuctural developments. This obviously includes houses, boarding schools, hospitals apart from your tuma roads. Now if this was unplanned infrastructural development why should we believe that you planned for the power to these developments?Chishimba Kambwili once told the nation on radio phoenix that load shedding had stopped because of PF efforts. But today you want to blame your prediccesors. You have not told us any tangible ideas about how you intend to solve these problems but you have concentrated on blaming your prediccessors.Just leave office Zambia would rather have anybody but Chimbwi No Plan.

We should start subjecting everybody chasing after leadership at any level to leadership training. The first principles of leadership tell you one basic line. It says:
WHEN YOU ARE A LEADER, EVERYTHING IS YOUR FAULT.
If PF will find someone else to point at, then leadership eludes them.

Thats why in China and other Asian countries when there is a huge public accident (train, bus, aero, nuclear plant etc), ministerial leaders resign, ask yourself why would a Minster resign for somthing that hes not directly linked to?. Thats leadership with taking responsibility, PF need to learn to accept responsibility. You arent making it easier, either.

No we wont blame it on PF Govt lets blame it on the late Pope John Paul II. Thats why I always say when will PF going to accept mistake and take responsibility? You cant have people who deny their failures on daily basis, who should we blame then? These are people you can even trust who cant accept things are bad?

@GIFT, that is my worry, just were to find those RIGHT PEOPLE!! Lungu and his groups are proving wayward. The one chasing after the presidency (hakainde) thinks he will only become democratic once he goes to state house, Nawakwi, Nevers, Chipimo, etc, all feel as though they are, but shortlisted presidential occupants. I have analysed, sieved, weighed abena hh for any traces of qualities that mean well for presidency. I find none. Aleisa-aleisa, because he is rich, is not different from he is humble, eobatushila, down to earth.

September 24, 2015 at 2:06 pm
Indeed Who should we blame now? We will continue blaming you until you start to think on how you will lessen these hardships you have inflicted on us. Kambwil and lungu should be ashamed of yourselves, you cant talk about development, you cant address serious issues that are affecting us instead you just threaten people with dismissals and arrests. I seriously warn you because this will never help you. Edgar and Kambwili you have failed to rule just accept. instead of admitting you have started abusing Zambia Police particularly Woodlands to Intimidate People. Stella is the highly compromised person in this country.
