CAF Fines Zambia $10,000 Due To Crowd Trouble

THE Confederation of African Football (CAF) has fined the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) US$10,000 (about K120,000) for crowd trouble during two international matches.
The CAF disciplinary board meted out the punishments during a meeting on September 20 this year.
The continental soccer board handed FAZ US$5,000 (about K60,000) fine for the fans’ pitch invasion at the end of the 2016 Rwanda African Nations Championship first round return leg against Namibia in Lusaka on July 4.
Zambia beat Namibia 2-1 in regulation time at Lusaka’s Nkoloma Stadium to tie 3-3 on aggregate but went on to win 6-5 on penalties.
CAF have also imposed a similar fine on FAZ for throwing of objects on the pitch when the under-23 national team faced their Ivory Coast counterparts in the Senegal African Under-23 Championship qualifier at the same venue on August 1.
The game ended 0-0 on aggregate but Zambia pulled through to the final hurdle of the Olympic Games football tournament on lotteries.
Goalkeeper Toaster Nsabata saved two penalties as Zambia won 4-3 on penalties.
And FAZ general secretary George Kasengele said the association is still waiting for official communication from CAF, DIANA MUTAKAFIMBO reports.
Kasengele, however, said the fine has a bearing on FAZ’s standing with CAF and that fans should understand the consequences of their behaviour.
“We have not yet received official communication from CAF but this should speak on the behaviour of fans. It negatively affects our standing with CAF. We are sure we will be informed soon,” he said.
