KELVIN CHONGO, Lusaka
A RETIRED Zambia Air force (ZAF) officer has allegedly shot his wife dead after a marital dispute.
Colonel Pandala Banda, who is also a lawyer, was in turn severely beaten by his son and some relatives leaving him bed-redden in hospital and under police guard.
The incident has left family and church members of the couple in shock as they revered the two as a model couple.
Lusaka Province commissioner of police Charity Katanga confirmed the incident yesterday while University Teaching Hospital (UTH) authorities said Col Banda is being treated for injuries sustained in the beating.
“We had a shooting in the early hours of yesterday between 01:00 hours and 02:00 hours in which a retired Colonel Pandala Banda of Chamba Valley shot and killed his wife Vivian Ilukena,” Ms Katanga said.
She said the body was taken to UTH mortuary around 02:00 hours after her daughter Chilivwe reported the incident to the police.
She also said Col Banda was beaten up by his son and family members.
Col Banda runs a law firm called Pandala Banda & Company in Lusaka’s Rhodes Park.
Chelston Police Station chief investigations officer Nelson Shayenga said Col Banda is under police guard at the UTH.
“This is a serious case that borders on murder and police will ensure that the law takes its course. It is shocking,” Mr Shayenga said.
And UTH assistant public relations officer Natalie Mashikole described Col Banda’s condition as stable.
Mrs Mashikolo said in a separate interview that Col Banda was admitted to UTH in the early hours of yesterday.
“He is admitted to UTH for head and soft tissue injuries. His condition is stable,” Mrs Mashikolo said.
He said Col Banda is being nursed by his relatives under police guard.
The funeral is at Col Banda’s residence in Chamba Valley phase two.
Meanwhile, a close associate of Col Banda, who withheld his name, said he is shocked with the news that his friend allegedly killed his wife with a gun.
“Anyone can testify that the Colonel always told us never to point a gun at any human being unless an enemy and only when the situation is threatening,” he said.

Thingd are bad for employed soldiers under pf. What more those who are retired? The pf has failed to offer both financial support and mental support to those that have served their country. Add to this poverty this is end result. Rip

The colonel is a disgrace to the entire defense forces.why shoot a wife.he was supposed to be launched into Isis fighting in order to exercise some range skills not in a bedroom.I sentence him to death by firing squad.

Secrets are not good. When he married this woman, he was made to believe the pregnancy was his. It is painful to discover that a full grown child u ‘ve regard as yours is not actually yours. WOMEN SHOULD LEARN TO BE SINCERE.

Rumour has it that he discovered that the first born is not his child, and this is a grown up person he has regarded as his child all the years. Life is unfair for women, when a women discover their hubby’s secret children, they get depressed – recover – forgive. But when it is the other way round, they are killed.

The woman was unfaithful. That is a painful thing to bear.
LET THERE BE NO SECRETS IN MARRIAGES, OR ELSE WE WILL FINISH EACH OTHER IN DIVORCES AND MURDERS AND GOING INSANE AND STIs AND FINALLY MISSING HEAVEN.

I pufi pupu Katufi is deeply humbled by this misnorma. The truth is that the whole family is now shaken especially that the killing was in range of the children. I had a very unfaithfull fiancee as well and I only knew of her unfaithfullness after marrying her. But as pupu I decided to find the way out of depression or anger I also had a fling of girlfriends. I slept with over 100 girls and now I feel my anger is gone for the sake of my kids I am staying with my wife, but I make sure that I either seelp in the guard house or in the sitting room. Its sad and I knlw how anger propagates when you discover otherwise about your partner. May her soul rest in peace and may colonel pandala soul be foriven by God cause he will never be th same again the death of his wife will haunt him forever.
