And Lundazi residents are angry with local police for denying Kabimba a permit to address them.
Speaking to Rainbow Party members and Lundazi residents who welcomed him in the district, Kabimba, the party’s general secretary and its 2016 presidential candidate, said if President Lungu was given by God, then He did so to teach Zambians a lesson about what bad leadership can cause to a nation.
“Yes, I know that in the Bible, Paul says all authority and leadership comes from God. But I don’t believe myself that God can give you a chakolwa (drunkard) for a President like this one, no. I don’t think that Chiuta withu (our God) can give us a chakolwa and we should fold our hands and say ‘all leadership comes from God’. If this President came from God, then God is trying to show us what a chakolwa President can do to a nation,” Kabimba said.
“God knew from the beginning that this country would face this economic crisis at this point in time, so if He gave us this President, then the message you should get is that, ‘Don’t repeat this mistake of electing a chakolwa to be your president’.”
He urged people of strong Christian faith to help interpret the Bible within its context.
“So as Christians, let’s understand the Bible within the correct context. The world which God created was a rich world and everybody in that world was equal and they had everything. If a corrupt person is in leadership, should we allow them to hide behind the Holy Writ and say all authority, all leadership comes from God? That is misinterpreting the Bible. Such elements need to be flushed out of leadership, flushed out of government at every opportunity given, and that challenge lies with you people here in Lundazi and across Zambia. You need to listen attentively to people who are coming here to share their vision. Listen very carefully when they tell you what plans they have for you,” Kabimba warned.
“So in the Rainbow Party, we want to make sure that we don’t repeat the mistakes that we saw in MMD and PF. In Proverbs 24 verse 1, the Bible says, ‘Don’t envy the wicked and don’t desire their company’. So we should not sit here and accept what the PF is doing to your lives. But that does not mean that we should take over power from PF when we don’t see anything wrong that PF is doing. We should be able to explain to our children, our parents, our church members and families exactly what the PF has done wrong.”
He said if the PF cared for the people, there was no way President Lungu was going to allow farmers to buy inputs at over K500 per bag.
“Tell the farmers that their yields will be terrible this year because the government they voted in power has killed agriculture. Tell your children that they are struggling to go to school because PF has not prioritised education. Tell the church leaders that their members are starving because the price of mealie-meal has doubled since January. Tell those people who do business in your area that their business is not moving because the kwacha is now useless. Tell the teachers that their salary is failing to sustain their family because the cost of living has gone up. Tell them that for all these problems, the only solution that their President has found is to say the whole nation should fast and pray and everything will be fixed,” Kabimba said.
And Kabimba called for hard work among Rainbow members.
“You are going to encounter difficulties but that is what builds your character of leadership. If Christ Jesus had not suffered, there would be no church today, there would be no salvation today. So we learn even from the Bible that for the human being to succeed, sacrifice is very important. Sacrifice is extremely important, my dear brothers and sisters,” Kabimba said.
“I have no better leaders in Lundazi than you. Even when we get into government, I will have no better leaders than you. I want to tell you today, I want to assure you this afternoon that I will not forget you because without you, I can’t be general secretary. Even in State House, if God blesses us, without you, I can’t be President. But the starting point is for you and me to become kapolos (slaves) for our people. That is what good leaders do. They first serve the people and then the people will respect their leadership.”
And during a mobilisation meeting on Monday, Rainbow district chairperson Masaiti Banda said people were angry that police had withdrawn the permit that had been granted to allow Kabimba address the residents and also to feature on the local radio station.
“A few hours after giving me the permits, police called me back saying, ‘Come, we want to withdraw the permits’. I didn’t waste time but made a photocopy to show you that people here want to listen to a new voice. But the instruction from elsewhere contradicted the local position,” Banda said.
“The local police said it was safe to hold our meetings and talk to our people, but suddenly, that position changes. So the people here are angry. Our party members are living in fear because of this intimidation. So these people that you see here, it’s just courage. They have been [living] in fear, including myself. I just said ‘if it means dying, let me go and die’ because I know how frustrated the people here are. We are determined here, we will ride our bicycles and educate the people everywhere and they will not stop us. We will tell the people, general secretary, that socialism is a new formula that will remove the gap between the poor and the rich.”
And as Kabimba was addressing party members, some PF members were seen driving around the area, but the opposition leader said the PF cadres were loitering around the Rainbow meeting because they could not resist the good news that the party had brought for the people.

Every time a politician invokes God and the Bible means they have no valid argument to make. Personal attacks on the character of their opponent tells me they have no workable policies to change the situation for ordinary citizens. If one was to follow his argument to its logical conclusion, he is in fact saying that God is fallible. Only if God is fallible do we end up with a “chakolwa”.
