This a statement attributed to FAZ president Kalusha Bwalya after Zambia’s early exit from the tournament.
I totally agree with the president athough the technical term is that they lacked mental toughness or mental strength as it is commonly known.
This can be demonstrated in the overall performance of the team and individual players.
Mental strength brings with it confidence, concentration, will to win and character wich we lacked through out.
Football has a way showing your inadequecies through stats and results.
We failed to play during critical moments because the minds get tired and we tend to switch off. In football, the most dangerous moments are five minutes before and after the intervals including from kick off and before final whistle.
All the goals were conceded during these critical moments.
Tunisia- 4″ and 86″
South Africa- 46″ to 53″
Senegal 4″
Additionally 5 of the 6 goals conceded were “Headed Goals” which is about 90%. The highest number of headed goals by a team at a tournament is 30%.
All the goals were conceded from inside the 18 yard box as a result of defending deep.
We conceded from a corner in each of the three games, that is 50% from set pieces , the normal average is 30%.
We definately need to deal with the mental aspect of our game at all levels. It is in moments like these that tactics alone are not enough to win matches.

Excuses, excuses, and excuses! Your team could not just much the other teams bwana. When are you going to change your mindset? The problem with you is that you celebrate before the tournaments thinking that you are the best after beating minors like Malawi and Mozambique. These tournaments are for the best and not for underdogs who do not even train. If they train, its probably for K10.00 per day, Kikikiki!!
I will tell you one thing that even your senior team is still struggling. Already some people are very excited thinking that “Chicken” is the right man for the job of coach after seeing off Sudan. You will get the shock of your life!!!! I do not think our Chipolopolo has the winning formula yet. These talented guys need someone who will bring out the best out of them. I know soon or later you will be talking about an expatriate coach who really understands the game of football, knowing fully well that Zambians are plagued with short memory. Wake up and make correct judgements!!!!

Correct English is “Under 23 WERE not…” and not “WHERE not….”.
Sorry for the loss. Next time. The real loss is at home where the people of Zambia have just lost to PF on the constitution process. The costly bye elections and deliberate weakening of the opposition in Parliament has just paid off for PF. No running mate. The 50 plus one is the next target. Let us wait and see as events unfold. PF will do everything possible to make sure they win. The Chinese loan will ensure that a robust road construction program is launched in Copperbelt. And Copperbelt and Lusaka voters who do not know that All Zambians regardless of whether they are in opposition or ruling party pay taxes will continue to vote the same way. We’ll the loses are Zambians who will not have the opportunity to taste real democracy. The loans will be paid by both UPND and PF members as well as all Zambians.

Kaponyas are very easy to please! Just a pack of shake shake and they vote for you! No analyzing, no critical thinking required for them to make a decision!

It all involves the technical bench, their job is to deal with all lapses in the team.

The problem was in the selection of players.most of those players that played against Tunisia and South Africa are not regular players in their respective clubs.
This is more reason their fitness level were below any standard. We strongly suspect that the selection of players were influenced by Faz chief.Surely what criteria was used to select a beach warmers Friday Samu and Nsabata Toaster a keeper without any reflex and leave Moses Mapulanga and leave Moses Phiri or jersey 9 for power dynamos
