LEVY Mwanawasa General Hospital has appealed to non-governmental organisations and members of the public to supplement its efforts in providing for an unidentified man who has been admitted to the hospital for two years now.
The man, who nurses have named Elijah, was involved in an accident and taken to the hospital by some good Samaritans in 2014 and has since been in admission
Speaking in an interview in Lusaka yesterday, principal hospital administrator Gertrude Kasanka said the hospital has been catering for Elijah from government grants, but it is a costly undertaking considering the fragile condition that he is in.
“We wish to thank Government for providing for Elijah, but we really need support from non-governmental organisations and well-wishers because he is on a special diet that involves a lot,” she said.
Mrs Kasanka said Elijah is fed every two hours but currently, he is only eating porridge because the blender which was being used to mash other foods has stopped working.
She said Elijah also needs diapers because he completely depends on nursing care.
Mrs Kasanka thanked health personnel at Levy Mwanawasa General Hospital for taking good care of Elijah, without which he may have died.
“We are encouraging members of the public to take time to visit him, maybe someone might recognise him, which could speed up his recovery,” Mrs Kasanka said.
She further said Elijah is making slow progress and has started making some movements whenever he is left alone.

This cilly woman principal hospital administrator Mrs Gertrude Kasanka is not for that position of Principal Hospital Administer as she exhibits lost of administrative experience. The blender is not working and she wants NGO’s or someone else to look after a person who is comatose! If Ariel Sharon former Israeli Prime Minister who was in a vegetative state for over 5 years- he would have discharged by this unqualified administrative assistant! As for the medical staff- that hospital must be closed and turned into a Training Centre!

@MB I totally agree with you. There are people who have been in hospital longer than 2 years and they are still taken care of.It is not the duty of NGOs to save lives but hospitals. She is a lost soul.

As a matter of fact, that is Taxpayers’ money not coming from Kasanka’s pocket.

Its sad indeed that our fellow is passing through hard times that has condemned him to bed for over 2 years. I do not want to appear to be political when I call upon those who claim to be rich to take up the challenge and help our brother and also those people who in their humble self must as a matter of agency take up the challenge to also help our brother.

Ehehehehehe. Getrude Kasanka ur indeed a foolish woman. Even if ur stingy, how can u worry about money coming from government to feed and Carter for one person? As though ur the one who gives that money to the govt. I wonder if your relatives even visit because uliwakaso mayo napafintu ifishili fyobe. Nangu kufwaya ukupanga ishina awe mayo apapena namulufyanya. Muletala mwatontokanya first. Kapepeni Lesa amyelele.
