Editor,
“Going for someone’s throat” is figurative speech or an old adage meaning getting back at someone and not to kill the person.
GBM’s statement has been misinterpreted by the PF in their quest to win the elections through brutalising fellow Zambians who hold different views.
Which ‘schools’ did Frank Bwalya and Chishimba Kambwili go to where they learnt that this adage was treasonable in Zambia or any other civilised country?
Unfortunately, our country today is not the Zambia Dr Kenneth Kaunda handed over to Frederick Chiluba peacefully in 1991.
I am appealing to Zambians not to be cheated by selfish politicians who want to retain power at all cost and have forgotten about uniting our country.
Obviously, late president Michael Chilufya Sata would not have used the police to harass other politicians and beat up fellow Zambians for belonging to other parties.
My fellow Zambians, exercise your rights by voting on August 11. The police will not brutalise you for making an intelligent decision through the ballot on that day.
Disgusted senior citizen

This is exactly what I said. Figurative speech. What do you expect when the pf chaps are ok with closing university in country. It shoes you that to them education is not priority. Kambwili and frank went to the school of stupidity as you can see from their stupid behaviour. Fools rush to open mouth before engaging brain. A sad case of oral diarrhoea
f I say “chumbu musholowa” that is a Bemba Proverb or idiom but if I say “I will kill you” or “I go after your throat” that is threatening violence considering the bitter state of mind in which GBM was when giving press conference so he meant it not “figurative speech” as you are tryin to twist it.Figurative speech is when i say “GBM jumped down Lungu’s throat” which means “Strongly criticize, reprimand someone”.STFU!!!By the way how does Kambwili come in????

Agreed, the arrest was uncalled for and the brutality by Zambia Police on civilians shocking and sad for mother Zambia.

Cursed is president lungu
Blessed is President Lungu
pwanya whatever, you ‘re another dull chap, and which school did you go to? Gbm is rich already, lets make our own wealth for our families.
@ Kanayo …And which school did you & your GBM go? Am also rich I fly every month, f^ck white b^tches & all races Latinos,Indians,Chinese, Mexicans, & Brazilians then go to 1 OAK , No Cover, Marquee & Chateau nite clubs & Wynn Las Vegas Casino & The Strip where top Hollywood celebrities & models chill. GBM does groove like that b^tch…so STFU!!!!!
The arrest of GBM is a clear ‘game changer’, whereby, even a blind man can see! English in Zambia is official language and most police officers nowadays are more than Grade Twelve school leavers, just which English do these PFs read/know?

Since when did we have such kind of politics of violence in this christian country. pliz fellow zambians open up and vote wisely on 11th august coz things are not jst ok
as 4 me no vote 4 fpools.chilufya of kitwe.
whao, pwanya whatever i m impressed really. nothing personal
Ba upnd alamipwisha GBM. That man Ba Sata got rid of him, then to you he should be your superor. You wait and see. Nafuti Nafuti
GBM resigned and was not chased by MCS. How many Zambian politicians have resigned from government on their own accord? How many have openly differed with their party president in power? I admire him for being principled, and I also admire all those who have once relinquished their government positions on principle such as Late Mwanawasa, Zukas, Dipak Patel, etc
Did GBM attend night school or what
UPNDs u ar idiots, law is law in zambian law since 1990s hve u ever read tht anyone is allowed to form a military in readnss of un election?and if thy arrest u,u say brutalising.u go @ police station u strt fightng wit de police they dispace u u say brutalising, someone breaks de law n police trys to stop him u say brutalising. So does it mean tht all these crimes comittd by UPNDs will nt be crimes whn UPND come to power?U cn nt go to power by force,u dnt need to fight or kill 4 u to go to power God gives. The more u panic the more u dicampan yoselves.God is wit us,the war de upnd is preparing ll never happn in zambia.
Very correct @talkmore. UPND are so violent and provocative. They want to create a situation which will show as if this country has become ungovernable. They want to reap good out of trouble. That’s impossible. We are watching them and will decide wisely on 11th August. The police should be allowed to do their job. If they strongly come against UPND for being violent, they should never be blamed or termed brutal. It is self inflicted trouble. God is with us. No plans of the enemy will ever succeed against Zambia. Viva PF, Viva ECL.
The only convicted murder cadres I know of are those chaps from pf who were sentenced for death of upnd member. Ukose mambala
@Pwanya nini! You really sound like a PF supporter! No substance in your head just like Edgar, Kambwili and Bwalya! By the way Edgar is using stronger ARVs. Ask for some.
@Pwanya nini! You really sound like a PF supporter! No substance in your head just like Edgar, Kambwili and Bwalya! By the way Edgar is using stronger ARVs. Ask for some. You can be proud of that life! Uli fontini lya mukomboni! You grew up in shanties!
In USA if you tell some one that you will kill some one that person is killed you’re suspect no 1
Exactly “when the person dies” then only do you become a suspect. And even then you are innocent until proven guilty. Maybe am missing something ushe lungu amwalila?
bskachema you think u are more educated your sstanist wont take u to state house you r still dreaming jst change your mind set
if what bwalya said was misinterpreted could you kindly teach us what he meant…if it meant to get back at Edgar ..in what way and here the writer is trying to teach us the english GBM used was some kind of grammar or rewrite or what coz last I checked GBM is a grade 7certificate holder….the people he went to address to were the same, people he was training with guns and pangaz…so,trust me when I tell you, the, throat GBM meant is exactly a throat
@ kck …if it were TRUE edgar was indeed on arvs. what that make him a lesser human than you and me,ba kck if u perfect in everyway well good for u…basing your arguments on insults wont solve a thing…anger is considered to be poison that one drinks and waiting for the other to die…if you think HH is a better president simply prove it and we shall prove to you why we think edgar is a legitimate president…
Add your comment:GBM was wrong. When he said he was going for the President’s throat he meant, and he feel the wrath of the law. A president of a country should be given respect. You keep dangerous weapons and they arrest you,you start complaining that there is no democracy in Zambia what nonsense!!.Who told you that keeping dangerous weapons in homes is democracy?
But bakachema muli fikopo, what kind would u run if given power. Saying gbm is right to train ifipubafyabantu. U say it’s ok awe mwandi, lungu never shade any blood ilyo aishile pa mupando nomba kachema apo aishila muma politics thousands have died, properties have been destroyed too much violence and yet still in opposition no sense of shame. Ifye caba muli fyonse. You will never on eath find a mad man shaving another mad man’s head, they will end up fighting and kill each other. God is the only answer. A wise ling will never rush to fight but find a way of catching the enemy and interogate.
Ba UPND nomba ubukopo bulemoneka. Who tought you that every word can be suitable in every context? the noun salt is correct in kitchen but not appropruate in a lab. Before using a word consider age, social and other meanings of that word. THE FACT IS THERE WAS NO RESPECT IN THE USE OF THAT PHRASE TO HE

I think mr editor you are the one lacking education here, either you take this word as figurative or as it is, stil remain the same. You have said well that going for someone’s throat means geting back for him|her, but what is geting back for someone you are in dispute, fight or any kind of misunderstanding? it means to harm or you finish up that person or you simply kill. so it has nothing to do with figurative, the problem with GBN he is illitrate he is using words that he can’t explain well in his language.
but him said we can beat and finish them. wat does this min. this is wat happens wen u hav dull leadership in govt.
GBM meant a political metaphor….implying if he was challenging slowly now he will go full speed…..its politics bane…..
I used to think upnd supporters ar the dull ones,bt nw I see that the shoe is on the other foot. Simple english you are failing to understand, even this article makes it clear bt still u fail!!!…..the country has gone 2 the dogs
@ p nini u r 100% correc. dat z nt a figurative speech plzzzz.
Indeed it’s figurative but GBM used that in retaliation after been released by the Police, meaning the adage you are talking about was in line with the circumstances he was in at that moment. Questioning the school were Father Bwalya went is like questioning the entire Catholic system were this man served as a Father after passing through 7 years at their seminary. I am sure even the Editors who questioned Father Bwalya’s Education background didn’t spend that long in tertiary.
The question really is whether Bwalya is a Diocesan priest or from one of the Holy orders. The Diocesan fellows are not the sharpest tools in the shed. The ones from Holy Orders like Jesuits, Oblates and the like are very very VERY sharp. Like 6 points, UNZA, Oxford sharp. Those are the fellows that are priests but have double Doctorates in Math and the like. The others are like 38 points – 45 points and seriously intellectually challenged. Bwalya give Diocesan priests a bad name. Hehehehehehehe
gbm’s statement meant to kill so let the law take its course. Trying to twist the statement will not help, already he is locked up. And which school did GBM go to?
@patricio, do you know that gbm is still a pf member. He is still pf mp
Its the same school that Vikki Kalima attended. She didn’t know what the phrase to make someone “eat their own hat” meant. She complained to the Speaker about someone threatening to make her eat her “heart”. That was a riot (ooops, just in case a PF member is reading this, that means “it was funny”). I cannot wait for this one to hit court, the magistrate will have a riot (wink wink) of a time. How I wish late Lucy Sichone was around for this one. She would have ripped the prosecutor a “new one”. God bless the dead
