George Lwandamina says he has no regrets about handing Real Betis midfielder Charly Musonda a call-up despite the snub from his family.
Charly’s mother Angela issued a statement on social media over the weekend indicating that they would rather consider options from England or Belgium for the 19-year-old prospect.
Lwandamina said official procedure was followed and that it was not intended on undermining his Charly’s father and ex-Chipolopolo star Charles Muosnda who is also a personal friend of the Zambia coach.
He said it was only right to make a bold move on the boy for this months 2017 Africa Cup qualifier against Congo-Brazzaville considering that he is a strong interest for the senior Belgium national team for Charly’s services.
“Maybe I moved too fast before even talking to Charles. I would have loved maybe to go that way but I was too eager and thought we might lose out on the player,” Lwandamina said.
“If I offended Charles, I apologize.
“But we have heard some great descriptions of the boy from some great coaches, that is how great the boy is rated otherwise all Zambians have seen his potential and what we are talking about here.

Belgium Academies has moulded him into what he is today, why do we want to rush for the fruit of their Labour, let him play for the country of his birth Belgium, just start your own soccer laboratories to identify and produce talents like him, by we are just disturbing him let him have a free mind when he is playing. All the best young man.

Europeans also benefited from our fruits. They colonized us took our resources and developed their countries. You should also note that Zambia developed Charles Musonda senior, the Belgians took him away. If Zambia did not develop Charles snr to that “export” level, that boy could have been living in the shanty compounds of Mufulira.

You are absolutely right. I see a lot of lads with potential to be great players, but our local coaches rush them into senior teams and /or sell them to foreign clubs before they mature. Look at Mukuka Mulenga, Luchanga, Lubambo , the list is endless.
With the right developmental structures these kids can be great players. Lwandamina is looking to reap where he did not sow. In any case the Charly Jr has Belgian nationality. I thought he would have started from this end. Football is a serious business and parents can make huge millions from the skills of their children.
FAZ are very reluctant to give Lwandamina a contract and pay him the money due to him- is that not a red flag.
By the way why do they call him Chicken? I noticed he has not reprimanded the media for calling him as such>

Both of you @henrique and @halo haters are drunk….how many Chinese and Lebanese are in your country reaping your natural resources? Why are you not condemning them for reaping where they didn’t sow? Playing for Zambia is for the boy’s own good. He can p,at for many years, become coach later, play a role in FAZ later, etc, etc………as a black, he may not have these chances in Europe, no matter how good he is.

Nobody belongs to anyone. All you bone heads that think that because the boy has Zambian heritage he should pledge alegiance to Zambia automatically. You are a Zambian national because that is your only option, so you want everyone to be bound by your options? what nonsense is that? Why the heck didn’t bar chase Herve Renard from managing our national team? He’s not Zambian and by your logic he should not be allowed to coach our team. If the American army put an advert in the newspaper offering Zambians the option of being US soldiers and being trained and shipped to Iraq then off the the US after serving 2 tours. The US Embassy would be flooded with 6 million applications? Would you be pratting off then too?

Karim Benzema who represents France but whose parents are of Algerian descent.
Saido Berahino who picked England ahead of Burundi, the country of his parents’ birth.
Wilfred Zaha who picked England ahead of Ivory Coast, his country of birth.
Divock Origi, who plays for Belgium rather than Kenya, his father’s country of origin.
Christian Benteke who also represents Belgium but is of the Demorcatic Republic of Congo origin.
Romelu Lukaku as well plays for Belgium but is of the DRC’s origin. Lukaku’s father even played for the DRC national team.

Patrice Evra, the French defender who is of Senagal origin, born in Dakar.
Danny Welbeck too plays for England and not the country of his parents birth, Ghana.

If Mr Zoom were alive and all Charles team mates will remember that even then it was not easy to have the man pitch up for KK11. Thats one difference between him and Kalusha; Kalusha was almost always available

I think we should not force matters. If the parents feel playing for Belgium or England is the best thing for their son, let it be. Charles Musonda pulled out of the National team when we needed him most after the Gabon disaster. He wanted Zambia to pull out of the AFCON 1994 but others like Kalusha, Johnstone Bwalya and many others endured the rebuilding process and we came out second. The Musonda’s should not forget where they have come from. Kumwenu ni kumwenu nangu ni pampanga. They are where they are because the KK11 exposed him to the outside world. Tamuli basungu bane. Ba Lwandamina, continue with the players that are available, we won the AFCON without Chalie junior so let those who are proud of their origin put on the national colors. You can not continue to plead for him. The father refused when we needed him then and he has continued with the same stance. He wants the nation to go on its knees to worship him to release his son. nabe cabe.

I totally agree with you. What is wrong with us Zambians? We would be the laughing stocks if at all that boy came and fails to tick at national team. Leave him alone for crying out loud. Who told you that we would need C Ronaldo to win AFCON? Let us forget about the chap and move on. Just concentrate on building the team and not an individual. I always ask myself why i do not watch our boys on premier league or even Laliga and the only answer that comes is our boys are not ambitious enough to reach such high levels. All they think of is South Africa and Congo. Please leave the boy alone and let him tick instead of you disturbing him

I feel this debate about Charlie Musonda will go round and round but in the end when you allude to Money it will endup that Playing for Belgium will earn him more money! let him be does his inclusion earn Zambia an automatic win or qualify to afcon and world cup? is he not suppose to feature for under 20 or 23, That boy wont be happy to be substituted evn if hez not playing coz he plays for Real Betis in spains top flight league, ku kalekafye walikwata Chisamba Lungu (Dinyo)

And tomorrow Musonda and his children will want to stand or be President of Zambia or any leadership position. People will remember and will live just like that. partriotism is very important and they must give valid reasons for not playing for the country of their origins. Such reasons can only be monetary or what you can call greener pastures. If they are analyising matters properly, they should consider future responsibilities like one said injuries and others.

That is the way to go, a lot was needed to make things happen for Charly! You needed to have a formal liaison with the parents and the young man and make all necessary documents available then let him know that you are needed for national duty. If he had said yes, would have acquired the passport in two days? I guess if it was a back door type but what about work permits and other documents it was a serious journey you were undertaking. Do it right next time they cannot fail to honor their mother land. But you need to be professional in approach. Do not call people on social media and say I did my part.

March 11, 2016 at 11:07 am
Apologise for what???…its not the coaches duty to contact players. Its the team manager who should apologise. The coach hands a list o players he has identified and then the team manager makes sure they are in camp by sending letters to their clubs and informing the players. Lwandamina did nothing wrong and need not apologise.
I was some what standing by Charles and his son in the beginning but now I see that the lad is grossly misled by his parents, I did not even believe the stories of Charles never ever being patriotic but now I see a lot of truth in those stories through how he and his wife are handling his sons choices of playing for Zambia.
Anyway we tried, I mean the minister went to meet them and spoke to them, the coach has called him up, I think that’s enough. We should not now beg for the lad. He is a brilliant player yes but if he has no heart and has been taught that patriotism is a joke then there is nothing we can do.

Getting all indignant is dumb as heck. The boy has a shot at having his talents being identified and rewarded by various bidders. We do not get so twisted when Doctors and Engineers go over to England or the USA, so why the f&ck are you getting so twisted over the kid making his choices.
Half the niggers complianing like babies here would disembowel their own mother if some Saudi Prince offered you $100,000.
THe Zambia coach made a bid. Good on him. Has the boy taken it up yet? No. The coach is making a bid like any normal manager should. At least the mother f8cker tried!
