Kalaba Still Zambia Captain

Kalaba Still Zambia Captain

Rainford Kalaba is still Zambia captain according to coach George Lwandamina.
Lwandamina settled question over the Zambia captaincy, at least for the time being, following veteran skipper Christopher Katongo’s return to the team for the 2017 Africa Cup Group E qualifiers against Congo-Brazzaville at home on March 23 and away on March 27.
The TP Mazembe midfielder has been Zambia captain since January, 2015 after Katongo was earlier axed from the team in October 2014 by ex-coach Honour Janza.
“Right now Kalaba is the captain. The return of Chris does not mean he will be captain nor can we say Kalaba will remain captain,” Lwandamina told The Post Newspapers.
“We will discuss it when we are there but it is up to Kalaba.”
Katongo returned to the Zambia fold in January when he also captained Chipolopolo at the 2016 Caf African Nations Championship (Chan) in Rwanda when the armband moved from Zesco United goalkeeper Jacob Banda to the former.
At the tournament, Katongo also scored one goal and helped propelled Zambia to the quarterfinals where the team bowed out to Guinea.
“Like what happened at Chan where Jacob felt he could not handle the captainship and handed Katongo the armband,” Lwandamina said.

George has shown a lot of maturity in the manner he has handled Charly’s and now Armband issue.
Thankyou for bringing back 2012 BBC African Footballer of the year in the limelight. Ba Kano Nibena wanted Katongo’s name to be erased from Zambian Football history.

I have commended George because in 1998 in Bobodalouso the Armband brought big issues when Burkard Ziesse stripped Elijah Litana in favour of a late comer

Its Elijah who decided to hand back the band. It was out of respect for Galu, oh Kalu

Why should we even debate mwe bantu. Kalaba is still captain and it hasn’t been difficult for him to handle that position. Do you mean Chris k can’t play well without a armband?

Yar good decision but i believe kalaba will still handover the armband coz he doesn’t seem camfortable with it and its just by name that he is Captain – he does not talk to his teammates and the ref!!!
