THE Patriotic Front has failed to find candidates with grade 12 certificates willing to stand as councillors while some sitting members of parliament who do not qualify have vowed not to campaign for the ruling party.
PF secretary general Davies Chama has announced that the party decided to extend the application deadline to accommodate more interested candidates.
He said the party wanted to give chance to more women and some government workers who had been out of the country.
But senior party officials disclosed that they were faced with a huge challenge in finding candidates, especially for wards in rural constituencies.
“We are in problems. The turnout for applications is very low. Many constituencies have not had many people applying for adoptions like we saw in 2011. That tells us a story. This whole grade 12 certificate issue has messed us up. There are a number of good organisers in the party who have fallen out, for example our Kafue MP Obvious Mwaliteta. You know he has not applied, this is simply because he doesn’t have a grade 12 certificate,” the party sources disclosed.
“Obviously it was difficult for Mwaliteta to say he has decided to stay away because the Constitution bars him from standing, so he had to say he was giving way to others to contest the elections. But he is such a good mobiliser. Can that be accepted? It can’t, because people know he has been mobilising for this year’s elections. But now he can’t stand because he doesn’t qualify.”
The sources said the PF was in a dilemma over the provisions in the amended Constitution.
“We have put ourselves in a complete mess. What guarantee do we have that people like him will not campaign against us? Right now, these are frustrated people yet they are such good leaders, organisers for the party,” the sources said.
“And also the councillors, it is a tragedy! Where will we get individuals with grade 12 certificates in the villages to stand as councillors? This is the trouble we face, and like many people have been saying, we have crucified ourselves with this amended Constitution and that is why people with grade 12 certificates are not coming forth to show interest to stand as councillors.”
The sources said there was fear among key party members that the PF was going into the election weaker than it was in 2015.
“The truth of the matter is that we are getting into this election weaker than what many of the people think. Then comes the issue of sidelining the old PF members because of those who have just joined. Look at how Dr Guy Scott is being treated! How can you do that to such a person who did so much to put the party where it is? What has Margaret Mwanakatwe done for the PF? What has Dora Siliya done for the PF? Guy has a point and even the President knows it,” the sources said.
“There are many people who are feeling sidelined but they are hardworking members of the PF. Look at Kabwe! There is James Kapyanga there, but now there are others who are being favoured, yet honourable Kapyanga has sacrificed a lot for the party. We are getting on a very dangerous path and if we are not careful, we will have very few MPs after August.”
And confirming the extension of the application deadline yesterday, Chama said the party wanted more women to take part.
“The application process has been extended for another week. From when it closed on the 6th of March, we have added a week, minus the holiday. We extended on Women’s Day because we want more women to participate considering the 40 per cent threshold that we want to reach as a party. This is to encourage more women. That’s what has caused this extension,” Chama said.
When asked about the challenges the party was facing in finding candidates with grade 12 certificates, he claimed it had been easy.
“We are not having challenges, the response has been overwhelming, I wish I could give you the numbers. This extension is purely for people who have been on government duty because from the time that we advertised, some were outside the country, so they have been calling me, and also to give chance to our women,” Chama said.
And Chama said according to how he understands the amended Constitution, civil servants don’t need to resign when they apply for adoption. This was after he had earlier said there was no district commissioner who had applied for adoption.
“I have not seen any DC who has applied for adoption,” he said. When reminded that Kalabo district commissioner Fridah Luhila and her Kabwe counterpart Patrick Chishala, had applied, Chama said he was not aware.
“I have not seen that application, I don’t have those details, but I think our Constitution, article 186, if I am not mistaken, those who seek an election, it does not say if you express interest to stand… I am not a lawyer but I think the interpretation is that when you file your nomination that you want to be elected, that’s when you have to resign, not when you apply,” said Chama.
End of stupid PF killed by their own sword.Sata only attracted idiots like Kambwili,Mwaliteta Shamanda then opportunists join the gravy train.
ITS GOOD. THEY ARE LEADING BY EXAMPLE-MAKING SURE THEY GET GENUINE G12
Is this Tumfweko I know or they have now stopped supporting PF. I know things are bad in Lungu no one really will vote for them. Lungu is the king of violence and blesses every act of it. Sometimes I wonder who is really the president of Zambia that he also shifts the blame to opposition leaders. He is currently the father of this nation and have to ensure violence stops whether in opposition or ruling party.
Add your comment the pf is very good at creating problems lets see how they will get out of this mess they have created
Kiki kikikikiki agony is introducing laws that segregate against uneducated people only to realise that their party has actually got majority of uneducated members.
Will see if Haishas are educated
Add your comment Do we have dogs at schools? It appears the majority of these current crop of politicians were scared of dogs at various school, thats why they decided to run away with an exception of few ones who had no one to sponsor them. Were these guys not given anopportunity to study the document before they gave it to their master to assent to it. I’m now made to believe that our country is full of comedians and time wasters. Lets learn to be serious bane.
These are the guys that used to be trouble makers ati SCHOOL-BULLIES!! They have always bullied their way through, going by the way they have harrassed everyone on the way. Either they insult or bullie you. No scope! Kiss the boot guys, we have had enough of you.
All the political parties are included in this extension. You must be even very happy for the extension coz most of the political parties have not submitted. And even you yourselves Mailon , Mulenga, NEZ, King David you can apply so that we can see your intelligence not just sending comments over your friends its your chance to submit and be a minister or a councillor
Ba Bjee most political parties have not submitted what and who? Mate the here is about individual political party adoption process, each party is doing it own process to select people to stand as mpz, and your pf said your party’s adoption process was to come to an end a week ago, you have extended this is what this topic is all about, what are you talking about?
you are lost boss. this is a PF activity. UPND, MMD and FDD as well as Muliokela will need to do their own adoption process. your failure to understand what is happening within your own party is the same root cause of the G12 choas that PF has found itself in. PF parliamentarians such as Mwaliteta Obvious did not understand what was happening ,just like you ,when they passed that motion in parley
They were suppose read the draft before voting it into law, why are they complaining about not helping to campaign ekotwali?
u c, doing things wen u ar drunk is too bad. autu.
If PF are finding it difficult to find sufficient Grade 12s to stand and yet “they” passed the law, it is a good sign they did it in good faith in that, they passed the law unselfishly. de Klerk did this by releasing Mandela, well knowing Mandela would win on a one man one vote basis, but it was the best way forward for mankind.
A good man will do something if it is good for all, even when it disadvantages himself or his own.
A woman breast feeds her children knowing well her breasts will become flappy.
You always have a valid and wise post. Big up!!
The system will eventually make it possible for sharp people like our bloggers here to finally have a foot in the political arena. Most of us that do not want to be insulted for contributing to national development through politics have ended up writing articles and blogging as an alternative.
Do we really expect people who could not even pass Special Paper 2 to pass progressive laws in parliament?
question here is has GBM handed in his certificate …we know for a fact mulyokela has better papers …non the less ofcourse we saw this coming in pf…it being the biggest party holding. most of the seats in parliament …means holding a lot of places in zambia too…what we the pf shall do is simply swap intersted pf members who r literate with certified papers…fix your party just like we are fixing ours…people all is will and just to welcome mwaliteta and maxwell to the big team..im sure those two have the needed paper work…

BLACKS ARE SYMBOLS OF POVERTY’ (PW BOTHA 1985)
Editor,
When I look at the xenophobia in South Africa, the poverty and failure to develop Zambia, Mozambique, Malawi and nonsense in Zimbabwe, I critically think of what former president of Apartheid South Africa P W Botha said in 1985 about black people.
Here are some of the excepts from that speech:
“Pretoria has been made by the White mind for the White man. We are not obliged even the least to try to prove to anybody and to the Blacks that we are superior people. We have demonstrated that to the Blacks in a thousand and one ways. The Republic of South Africa that we know of today has not been created by wishful thinking. We have created it at the expense of intelligence, sweat and blood. .
We do not pretend like other Whites that we like Blacks. The fact that, Blacks look like human beings and act like human beings does not necessarily make them sensible human beings. Hedgehogs are not porcupines and lizards are not crocodiles simply because they look alike. If God wanted us to be equal to the Blacks, he would have created us all of a uniform colour and intellect. But he created us differently: Whites, Blacks, Yellow, Rulers and the ruled. Intellectually, we are superior to the Blacks; that has been proven beyond any reasonable doubt over the years. I believe that the Afrikaner is an honest, God fearing person, who has demonstrated practically the right way of being. Nevertheless, it is comforting to know that behind the scenes, Europe, America, Canada, Australia -and all others are behind us in spite of what they say.
It is our strong conviction, therefore, that the Black is the raw material for the White man. And here is a creature that lacks foresight. The average Black does not plan his life beyond a year”.
By now every one of us has seen it practically that the Blacks cannot rule themselves. Give them guns and they will kill each other. They are good in nothing else but making noise, dancing, marrying many wives and indulging in sex. Let us all accept that the Black man is the symbol of poverty, mental inferiority, laziness and emotional incompetence. Isn’t it plausible, therefore that the White man is created to rule the Black man? Come to think of what would happen one day if you woke up and on the throne sat a Kaff*ir! Can you imagine what would happen to our women? Does anyone of you believe that the Blacks can rule this country?
His Excellency Botha. ”
It makes me shed tears when I look at what is going on in Zambia today and Brother fights brother for the sake of an ‘OFFICE’. Others are prepared to shed blood to hold on to what they have in hand. Would any African blame PW Botha for speaking the way he did?
Zambia must open her eyes and recognize the fact that those that cannot find solutions to problems will always resort to violence to hold on to power and they will bully any one that looks wiser than them. We saw it at primary school and boarding schools in the 70s and 80s.
Zambians ought to unite and fight the enemy within. Now we understand where we are coming from, where we are and where we are going. Is it not wiser to say the truth and allow God to set us free?
Try setting a snare and you will be the victim at the end of the day. He who slays by the sword shall die by the sword.
I was shocked again to hear of the fracas at Youth Day Celebrations and nothing coming from the Top Leadership to condemn or arrest the culprits to curb to nonsense.
Would any one wonder then? Is it the reason people can not articulate real issues but end up threatening, beating or insulting their perceived enemies? Is it not luck of basic education?
@Kasongo Wabapono chikala satanyoko tomba noko bukala bwanama. You are the last iidiot pa fikokpo sure you can praise Botha umwana wa nama ulya and you are happy the people of South Africa were being treated?Nga cali ni wiso nangu noko was being treated like that kuti watemwa? Kalala mpamnga iwe we mwana wambwa wanuka amatole asuka chikala maso yobe ulesamba na pa matako
Thing is you can not just face the truth. Listen to yourself and ask yourself why your leaders are rushing to South Africa for shopping, treatment and just about everything. Am sure you cant see the difference between then and post Apartheid South Africa.
Enjoy your insults.
@Wabapono Chikala waba icilitole nabwekeshapo nakabili bukala bwa nama dander head. You are busy glorifying fipuba go and leave in South Africa kolwe iwe wafita mapuli answer me you will hear more kabwa iwe tomba kalukuluku. Shonongo iwe
At one I mentioned that PF is composed of dunderheads then someone answered that UPND is full freemasonry. I was giving a LOGICALLY conclusion whilst my opposer was giving an EMOTIONAL conclusion. Now lets put things straight in reference to Grade 12 issues. The first casualties for G12 are PF bigwigs like Kafue MP Obvious Mwaliteta and James Kapyingo. PF for you to find a replacement for Mwaliteta (my tribesmate), you must turn the flow of water in Zambezi to going in opposite direction.
Mwaliteta, Kapyingo and many others from all political know that their future in politics is now evaporated. Now chance of being appointment in diplomatic mission, deputy ministers, board members for any institutions not even as gravediggers. The Councils want to employ someone who read how graves he had dug per night in this Mwaliteta will be producing surf in his explanation his unaudible wrong English vocabulary whilst Kapyingo will speaking through an interpreter (from Bemba into English)
Kikikikiki ? wandepula
nice one, who ever thought pf would be dancing to this G12 tune. bene ba ziko, koma nkhani yalula achimwene
@ kasongo..yes I do agree we have a problem here in zambia but that does not mean what botha said is TRUE….its you having a bigger problem than me because its you who keeps running to the white man or chinese or indian for a piece of bread, but this problem is not entirely your fault,it has to do more with your up bringing which has been passed from generation to generation. the work hard and get a stable job syndrome .some how what our four fathers taught us is still taught today..we have a mind of dependancy hence that which feeds the other is looked up to b more supirior than others.we do not plan further than a year because we are limited to salary ..so its hand to mouth..but imagine if u for example rared chickens of your own,are you honestly telling me me cannot plan ahead of a year or two..I for once do not believe a different colour makes one a god..it has been proven that a white has five senses so do we, a white can fly a plane so can we…a white can make fire guess what? me too.so really its just your set of mind..change your mind and you will change your world.my elder sister owns a travelshop and one of her employees is a white and the white calls her boss..if we can groom our next generation to think anything is possible they will own businesses here and abroad. so no I do not believe we are zebras in a horse race and if we really r different then we are better than them..they are yet to find out..
In a big family like pf or upnd u or any family u cannot have children behaving the same way even if u fade them the same food or clothed them the same, their way of behaving will still differ.does pf have bad guys? very much yes..does upnd have bad guys? yes they do..the only difference of these two families are their fathers. one father preaches peace and condemns violence the other father preaches on how to take what belongs to them by force and is more than pleased wen he sees that pangas and stones flying..for example did hh or did he not know GBM was training fighters..did he try to condemn him? should we be worried? because thier is a saying show me your friends and il show you who you are.. viva pf…with you all the way..
Upnd for life.go HH go……..kikikikiki.
