Leader of the Copperbelt based group of small-scale miners, popularly known as the Jerabos,Cyme Kalobo has given the leadership of the United Party for National Development (UPND) 24hrs in which to retract suggestions that his group has joined the opposition political party.
Kalobo says the UPND was fishing in a dry pond on the Copperbelt and had now resorted to issuing what he said were false claims that his group has endorsed the candidature of Hakainde Hichilema when not.
“Look, at no time, did I or any or my associates meet the leadership of UPND when they came here on the Copperbelt. The reports that they have been circulating that we have joined UPND are a total fabrication and are misrepresenting our association.
We are giving the UPND leadership 24hrs in which to retract their claims, failure to do that, the Copperbelt will be a no go area for them” Kalobo said from his base in Kitwe.
Kalobo has advised the UPND to be civil and factual in how they conducted their politics and desist from dragging his name or the Small Scale Miners into their political ambitions.
“We have a lot of respect for politicians, so the UPND should ensure that the respect we have for them holds up and be factual in their conduct. Our team will rally behind President Lungu in the election and that is the collective position of the Jerabos” Kalobo said.
There was no immediate response from the UPND leadership at the time of going to press.
