UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema says calls by President Edgar Lungu to end violence in the country have never been genuine.
Mr. Hichilema in a statement says President Lungu’s calls are mere public relations stunts meant to hoodwink the Zambian people.
He has also noted that there is serious selective application of the law in the country as ruling party cadres always go scot-free even when they have committed serious crimes, such as stripping women in full view of the police.
Mr. Hichilema points out that reports that Radio Mano in Kasama has been forced to shut down following threats of being set ablaze by alleged PF cadres is further evidence of the increasing levels of lawlessness in the country.
He states that the forced closure of Radio Mano and other atrocities against journalists are not only an affront to the fundamental rights of media freedoms and freedoms of expression, but it has also led to direct and indirect job losses in the country, already suffering from massive job losses and lack of employment opportunities.
