The Shoplifting Girls And The Presidential Emoluments

By Chilufya Tayali
I usually sleep late and wakeup early due to my own problems though I put up a smile as I take in all insults from social media. I don’t fight back those who insult or taunt me because I know they have their own problems and frustrations which cause them to vent their anger on me.

My friends, it is a fact that life is not easy and I feel very bad that I am not doing much to help the situation. I honestly feel compromised, but for nothing (I will elaborate that further later). I feel I am a let down to the Zambian public who want me to speak for them and yet many times I fell short of the grace to do so due to lack of resources or courage. Please pray for me, my spirit wants to but my flesh is weak.

I feel very bad to see my two sisters displayed all over social media for shoplifting of items worth no more than K500. They were treated in one of the worst inhuman manner especially for young ladies. Honestly why paint my sisters in that manner and expose them to the public like hardcore criminals.

The people that painted those girls must be punished by the law for such an inhuman act on the two girls.

I feel like crying to think of those two girls, knowing very well that, there are ministers who are cashing in Millions of Kwachas making Zambians suffer with no moral conscience for the poor and yet two girls are being painted yellow for shoplifting.

I am not justifying the criminality of the two girls but I am talking about the injustice that exists in our Country. I know of many illegal dealings and corruption going on but I want to give a chance to President Lungu to sort out this mess other than me holding Press conferences just to expose some of these Ministers and yet they keep their jobs.

Many people have been beckoning me to talk about the newly adjusted Presidential emoluments of K447,559 per year which is broken down to K 37,296.58 per month.

When I saw the messages, I tried to call my brother Amos Chanda to confirm the figure and to ask him a few questions but I could not get a response. However, Amos has been forthcoming sometimes, so I give him the benefit of doubt, just like I do in President Lungu for now but I hope my knells will not get bruised to much in prayers for them to answer.

In the meantime, my immediate reaction is that, considering the salary scale existing among public workers which starts about K3,100 for the lowest paid, the figure of K 37,296.58
for the President is not exorbitant.

I know that government Teachers now get an average of K7,500 per month. Directors in Government are getting in the range of K20,000 while PSes are getting just about K27,000 with Ministers getting slightly higher. Therefore, the President getting that figure is nothing to talk about unless you want be unfairly political.

It must also be noted that it is normal government practice to reveal emoluments for all public workers, including that of the President, annually and we all know that Government increased salaries for all civil servants this year 2016, therefore I want to believe this is how the salary for the President was also increased. So it is unfair to blame President Lungu personally for the increase because it was done across the board.

However, it might be good to look at the current economic situation of the majority Zambians and ask if Government should have increased the salaries for the public workers which includes the President. Unfortunately many civil servants (including the opposition) would call me names if I said, the increment should not have been done because Government has no money.

In my view, I think we need to be careful when we advocate for salary increments for public workers bearing it in mind that the President is also part of the public workers if we don’t want him to get a lot of money.

MPs, including those from the opposition vote for these increments because they also want a more money but they turn around in public to blame government of something they are part of.

It is wrong to say, Edgar Lungu increased his salary because it was done collectively with other public workers whom we feel are justified to get a rise.

@ Ganja Man ….Like all gods, devils and demons, an imaginary entity produced in the mind of primitive man.A person who is a hypocrite is certainly a jerk. No one likes a hypocrite, because hypocrites are smugly foolish. And Jesus seems to have a problem with hypocrisy. For example, one of Jesus’ most famous lines is, “Love your enemies,” as he says here in Matthew 5:43:
Therefore, what we find in Mark 16:15-16 is surprising. It shows us how Jesus treats his enemies:
He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned [to hell].
This is “good” news? Jesus doesn’t love his enemies at all.

I hate it when it comes to so called human rights because to me it seem it’s humam rights for women. If it was a man who stole a wallet and painted in public, this was going to quiet, however the issue is making a lot of noise because of biological difference yet we are all people. This is why i hate to see a woman want to become a president, men will suffer.

Mr. President please your salary is very small demand for more than wat i get. even a bank of zambia governor gets more than you too bad. Because of ignorance in zambia people busy criticizing such a small amount of money. tata beleleni tabeshibe efyo balechita by Ruff kid & chester.

Arnold, I only hope this is not a slip of your pen. Have taken into consideration that the President eats free meals, free fuel, accommodation, etc all paid for by the poor civil servant who only gets K3,100 per month. How many people in Zambia get that amount of money per month you are boasting about? Only a fraction. Please learn to feel for the poor majority wallowing in poverty and not mocking them. Mind you not every day is a Sunday, one day you will also be at the bottom of the food chain just like the majority of Zambians you are making jokes about their poverty.

My Friend its you to think about what you are crying about. All CEO in Zambia today get over K70m(old) per month and they enjoy other things just like the President. The President only gets this small amount you talk about the majority Zambians. Wake up my friend. The President work day and night while you are just seated. K37m(old) per month for President is absurd. Its too small. I get double that amount and am expecting a raise of not less than 10%

the issue of painting the shoplifter is confusing me just because the are ladies. if it was a boy child, would people write so many comments on him? if it was a gentleman or a young male youth, will the media come out so hard on this matter? my fellow men lets also promote boy child. all nice newly built technical secondary schools are for girl child eg in or copperbelt all girls schools have been worked on and roads are very good but you go to Chiwala boys technical school its like a refuge camp or prison. men, gentlemen, fellow man, lets fight for the right of our boy child together he has suffered enough.

Lets get holy for a few seconds. In the bible people brought an adulterous woman to Jesus for him to punish her, what did Jesus do he said to the people around anyone who is son sinless pick up a stone and throw to this woman. Even if you read King James version. There isn no advocating for using paint on the woman, better still no one stoned her what happened nis Jesus told a parable which made his followers understand the nature of forgiveness.

Civil Servants are lowest paid. Nothing wrong to increase President Salary, but this is not timely. The economy is bad, good leader will say not now , please Zambians we need to economically wake so as to judge correctly. The economy is extremely bad, as inflation is above 22%. Two Presidents maintained a single digit for a long time, but bearer 8 months, Edgar as President we are talking of over 22%, Inflation . No wonder they talk about the roads all the time, not about the economy – because it is a disgrace.

Only the president of S.P. can speak against the increment of the income of the public service worker who is the president of the republic of Zambia. They want to take advantage and start politicking over the same. Zambians lets open up our mind………. Our president is the lowest paid in this continent called Africa.

HH and GBM are rich people, but why they fighting nail and tooth just wanting to go to plot one? Its greediness at its best. Even those condemning Lungu today, will do exactly the same if not worse given the chance of becoming president. Now my comment on this man called Pwanya whatever is that this man seems to have his own way of interplating issues. He studied the Bible but just doesn’t want to follow what it says for reasons only known to himself. Mark 16: 15-16 is not saying Jesus hates his enemies, no. But his words here simply means that, some people will hear the word of God and get it but others will do just the opposite. So, those who will hear the word and decide not obey the teachings are the ones who shall be condemned, E.g. Pwanya Whatever.

The way to change the world is to change people’s minds. As more and more people openly discuss the fact that “God” and “Allah” are completely imaginary, the world becomes a better place. The people who believe in “religion” look sillier and sillier. Eventually, religion becomes a fringe activity that is meaningless.

You need People who will not go to state house for the money but to serve the poor majority. Look at the way our economy has been plundered in a very short time in the name of infrastructure development. I seat down and wonder weather there is a difference between starved monkeys that suddenly find themselves in a field of fresh maize and this Government.
When shall Zambians answer to the wake up call? Are we saying that we are so timid? Are we now agreeing with what the late FJT Chiluba said about Zambians? That We forget so easily?
Come on guys, lets wake up the giant in us and show the leadership that they are not our masters but our servants and that we have the power to hire and fire them because we know that they become so big headed right after the elections and come back with their tails in between their legs when its time to beg for votes. UPND minnios and their under 5 president are busy comdemning the slight increament in the president’s salary because they want to make cheap political capital out of it. Surely can an increament of K3,000 create so much uproar when some company executives get four times the amount as intertainment allowance per week! Please ba UPND give us a break we want to concentrate on other sensible things.

Its like men are nothing to women in Zambia because every thing is always in support with women! Is Zambia now run by idiots? Why is cut of points at grade seven & nine low for girls but we say Gender when it comes for employment? Why is GBV always favour women? Why is divorce compensation in court always paid to women even when a man is right? Why is it that men pay bride price & yet they keep more members from the in laws side? Why is there no any day for fathers or if its there why is it not celebrated ? Is it because women are in charge of men? Why are there so many organisations to speak for women? Why is Zambian govt calling for more women in leadership? Is it because all men are insane? Why do Zambians support women who shoplift( thieves) & speak on their behalf yet they work but condemn street kid boys who steal for survival?

Bane, reading and knowing the bible is one thing, obeying is another. Pwanya intwenu studies the bible but it takes the hollyspirit to interpret it.I went to a school where other than learning religious knowlage(RK or RE),chappel everyday last period before break and capel again last 45minutes after prep, bible was taken as different subjet,we learnt the bible page by page from Genesis to Revelation, ask my former school mates like Hon Sampa,Sam Mujuda(small boy we called him),Hope zengeni(where are you now girl?),Musokotwane brothers Kebby junior and Maston,mr chiwele(WV),Sodala,Athur Yoyo junior,Lovemore Skale and brothers,Likando Akakanda,Habasonda brothers, young sisters to Maureen Nkhandu etc just a pew to mention in the limelight. Salvation is grace, this same Pwanya intwenu could be the first to enter heaven,he can meet Jesus at the point of death, thats grace.Pwanyanix needs our prayer and not insults.

God created a man first and a woman was formed out of a man as a helper. So, all women should be regarded as our own children. All of you know how difficult it is to raise up a child in the like manner women are very difficult creatures we just need to under them. No wonder the bible likes a woman to weaker vesel. Have taken all things into consideration, thats why we hear all sorts of this and that about women. Caution: we are not suppose to abuse them in any way instead, lets show them love.

There is too much misunderstanding in Zambia. Busy comparing oranges and onions…….comparing a President and a business executive’s salaries. There roles are totally worlds apart hence the difference in their salary scales. Besides the benefits a president draws other than salary out weighs that of a bank of Zambia governor.
