Retired veteran politician Vernon Mwaanga says the legacy he has in mind as a politician is to be remembered as someone who contributed towards the struggle for Zambia’s independence.
Dr. Mwaanga says he also wanted to be remembered as someone who contributed towards building a new Zambia.
In an interview Dr. Mwaanga says he further hopes that part of his legacy will be that people remembers him as someone who did his best for the Country when it mattered the most.
Dr. Mwaanga says this is in spite of the fact that his generation may not have achieved the objectives it intended in its time.
He is of the view that his generation did however do its best to put Zambia on the map and end inequalities which existed especially between men and women.
Dr. Mwaanga states that the rest he will thus leave for the current generation to take Zambia to a much higher level which he says it certainly deserved to be.

That us what VJ would want. Sadly, his later years’ activity have over shaddowed his earlier exploits. Rigging, drugs, womanising, happen to have been his greatest achievements. He may do well to enjoy his old age quietly. We fail to note the effects of our earlier days in public life.
This is also the case with the likes of hakainde. You jump to grab the upnd presidency on the tribal card and chasing the viable contenders, you rape the party constitution to make your money declare you a ‘wamuyayaya’ company president, you freeze national conventions to avoid being challenged then you start buying other tribal appointments in order to look ‘National’. Mubepelefye, it is not press conferences that build a national character, but a national convention.

@Kakolwe you’re wrong……HH cannot fail to win the presidency of UPND even if the convention was to be held today in a hurry. It’s the latter issue you’ve mentioned of buying other tribal appointments in order to look ‘National’that he fears destroying. He fears that the political DNA of tribal politics in UPND would be exposed if a convention was to be held, cause all positions from president of the party to a cleaner at the secretariat would be held by Tongas.

Vj we in upnd thank you for your contribution starting off as one of the youngest diplomats in the world. We understand everyone has flaws and you were one to be open about them and even write about your weaknesses. For now we ask that you support the upnd even further to realise zambians potential by voting in a capable party. People are tired of suffering under pf.

Vj speaks of being the youngest diplomat and cabinet minister in the world at that time, to me, this reflects highly on the legacy of dr kaunda and his desire to mentor young into true leaders by giving them positions of great responsibility. Coz truth be told, vj’s educational credentials were laughable, i shadder to imagine the nonsense that this immature, uneducated 21 year old was saying to other diplomats in new york.
Kaunda gave a ministerial position to a 23 year old vj, we only hear the good part of this story, what we never hear of is kaunda’s regret for this dicision which he never ever repeated. So vj closed the door for young people. This child minister was buying fancy cars, banging everything in a skirt, holding partys every weekend at his official residence togather with his useless chakolwa uncle, harry nkumbulah, the bantustan leader of the tribal Anc party. These two in the late sixties/early seventys, because of their exploits with loose women coined the term “TONGA BULL”.
