Leaders of various political parties in the country have committed to ending political violence ahead of the August 11 polls.
The 18 political party leaders that included President Edgar Lungu agreed to tackle the violence which has been witnessed recently through various political structures.
This according to a communiqué read by Lusaka Diocese Archbishop, Telesphore Mpundu at the close of Inter-party dialogue to end political violence which was convened by the three church mother bodies at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross on Tuesday.
Archbishop Mpundu also said the country’s political leadership is concerned with the unfair application of the Public Order Act by the police.
He said the leaders agreed to ban the use of perceived military regalia alongside machetes and pangas as they have played a role towards fanning violence.
Archbishop Mpundu said the leaders also agreed to refrain from the use of hate speech and offensive language especially against each other to avoid political violence.
He said the meeting has since recommended that political party leaders agree to hold a follow-up meeting before the elections.
And President Lungu has committed to implement the resolutions of the meeting.
The President said all political parties have a role to play to ensure that political violence is stopped going forward.
Meanwhile Forum for Development and Democracy -FDD- leader, Edith Nawakwi said she is happy that finally all political players have freely discussed the burning issues ahead of the polls.
And UPND leader, Hakainde Hichilema said he will only comment at an appropriate time.
Other political party leaders could not be reached for a comment as they had dashed out of the venue for the meeting.
The political indaba which lasted for 7 hours discussed various issues apart from the need to stop political violence.

intead of strategising how to mitigate the country’s challenges someone attends a stupid indaba, thats if they know what the imported word means, why not use a local word like “Chiindu chaitwa” than importing a siZulu and sindebele word. Do you have to import everything?

DR Kaseba go round the country and see for yourself if UPND is winning before accepting to be HH’s running mate. Kabimba left no impact, GBM left no impact, sampa and scortt have left no impact. Do you think you are going to make any impact? Go back to the party you formed and be a running mate to lungu. It will make sense because no one will complain in PF because it is your husband’s party. Look at Mutinta mazoka

@ john chinena the convener of that meeting was the bishops and in their rightful minds choose bishop mpundu to give out the statement on what transpired in that meeting. It’s now up to the people who represented their parties to go and brief their colleagues in respective parties on what was discussed, ndiye ija ati your party caders refuse to leave markets and bus stops, yet you said you will implement the resolutions.

Bane all the parties represented at this indaba has a stake in the leadership of this nation. Now coming to some useless and politcally imature nits ln the likes of nez and many unreasonable twits passing on not worthy comments, l feel sorry for such unbecoming nicompumps.
Reasoning is aligned by ones capacicity to forsee the becoming inventuality. Now some blind mersemerisers are there singing praise songs on unimaginable, unfound leaders or parties. Who are lost in there unthinkable cocoons. Think like a human of the soil.

As usual the the head of state quickly ducked commitment to end violence as soon as he walked out of the Indaba. We all heard it for ourselves and there is no need to doubt that the President still wants to use cadres to cause confusion in this nation so he could declare a state of emergency and continue in the ‘sweet seat’.
How could a whole head of state say it will be difficult to stop violence? Is he that muuch of a pessimist? He has previously said He has no vision and it has turned out he is very honest in that sense. It will be the same when it comes to violence and, read my lips, our leader is a man of double standards. Mwanawasa was a principled leader and surely someone can emulate him. We all admire him. Where is super Ken? Has he been threatened?

@ sir goerge..but why are u in support of HH not commenting..do you realise he is simply saying i will not refuse violence @ the moment..he was simply trying say yes to violence in a polite manner..was it not upnd that was training its party soldiers with guns and machettes..the guns were not found but bullets..unless you suggesting the bullets were marely a decoration..it would have been better if HH started singing the peace song long time ago for his upnd followers..now 5months down the drain and still i
upnd refuses to say NO TO VIOLENCE..bushe umwana tabamufunda acili akanya..why wait to teach someone whats good for them..ati il comment in due time and the funny thing is somehow upnd doesnt realise what it is doing is pushing away a proposed non violent idea but it better b careful..what goes around mostly comes around..only problem here is if upnd strips a woman pa mazabuka for wearing pf u say she knows thats upnd territory bachitila dala if pf strippes a woman when marching ati pf is a violent party..its like boxing..one guy throws punches its ok when the other throws ati awe this guy is punching too much..its either u r fighting a dull chap or thier litracy is limited to a grade 9 paper or nothing.

@talkmore HH can’t comment because he wants to accuse the pf of violence. Upnd provoke situations so that pf can react. One example is a certain club on CB where Tongas insult ECL openly in the presence of the ZP officer in charge a tonga. Luckily enough the pf members just ignore these insults
