CHIPOLOPOLO midfielder Jack Chirwa says the new players have blended well in the team. Speaking after a training session at Edwin Imboela Stadium in Lusaka yesterday morning, Chirwa said the team was aiming at winning the COSAFA Cup this year.
Zambia was beaten 3-1 by Zimbabwe in last year’s final in South Africa.
“Last year we lost in the final but this year we want to do better and win the final. The mixture of the new and old players is well because we have already blended,” Chirwa said.
He said the team, which begins its quest with an away tie against Namibia on June 2, needed to achieve good results at the regional tournament.
“We need to just work hard together with the new players and old players and achieve our target of going all the way to the final and win the COSAFA,” said Chirwa.
The 18th edition of the COSAFA Cup will make history because for the first time all 14 members will take part in the competition. Zimbabwe return as defending champions having claimed a record fifth COSAFA Cup title last year. They face the winner of Group B in the quarter-finals, which is made up of powerhouse Angola, Botswana, Mauritius and Malawi.
