The Lusaka City Council has expressed concern over the continued theft of mounted bins in the central business district and around Lusaka.
Following a cholera outbreak last year, close to 500 waste bins where donated by various institutions to assist in keeping the city clean.
LCC public relations manager, George Sichimba says most bins have recently vandalized and stolen in the central business district and in various communities.
Mr. Sichimba tells Q-News that the council has received reports that members of the public are using the bins which are in metal form to make braziers which they are selling at cheap prices.
He has warned of stern action against whoever will be caught stealing or vandalizing the bins.
Mr. Sichimba has since appealed to members of the public to help in safeguarding the bins and report any person seen or suspected of vandalizing or stealing the mounted bins.
