UPPZ Defends Lungu Over Mihova

United Prosperous and Peaceful Zambia(UPPZ) leader Charles Chanda has reacted sharply to section of society that have directed their “knives” at President Edgar Chagwa Lungu for appointing William Sikazwe as Army Commander.
President Lungu gave a rare New Year present to Sikazwe who replaces Mihova as Army Commander.
On-line media claims that Mihova has been axed for defying Presidential Aide Kaiza Zulu’s directive of firing 23 soldiers who complained that the economy had been run down.
But Mr Chanda said President Lungu’s decision must be respected because he is mandated by the Constitution to hire and fire.
“I wish to respond to changes the President has effected in the defence force. I think it will be important for us as citizens to allow the President space in which to operate. I do understand…we may have our preferences but let us not forget that the President’s position demands that you have an oversight over the country. If we are going to react negatively each time he makes changes, it will make the position of President irrelevant in the nation. So, I want to appeal to various stakeholders and all the citizens, we have a President and let us give him room to operate. It is not us to decide who should be appointed. If he thinks he can remove and make changes, let’s give him the space so that at the end of the day, we are not the ones to control him. He has a Constitutional Mandate and it will help us as citizens to go along with him.We may not agree with him but it is not every time that we need to pick up stones and cast those stones on him for changes that he makes. We may be in opposition but opposition does not mean that everything that comes from State House or everything that comes Government must be stoned. In this new year, let us make changes in our lives, our conduct and altitude and Zambia will be a better country,” Mr Chanda said.
