Clement Tembo has disclosed that the Presidential Empowerment Initiative Fund(PEIF) will date traders from Western Province in a bid to boost their businesses.
Speaking in an interview, Mr Tembo said PEIF will for the first time date traders from Western Province.
“The people of Western Province have been calling for a very long time and they have been patiently waiting. Western is the only Province we have not touched. We have been to most of these Provinces. I can state here that we will be in Western Province very soon,” the PEIF National Coordinator said.
Mr Tembo said about K1 million was released to marketeers that were affected by the infernos in Lusaka, the capital city of Zambia.
” I can attest to the fact that we released K1 million towards Lusaka Markets and these are all in the seven constituencies of the Capital City. When we are done with Western Province, we will be back in Lusaka because in the Capital City, we concentrated on traders who were affected by the fires that swept some markets and not necessarily empowering the marketeers,” he said, “We are carrying out the project, we are moving on with the idea and we want to assure the nation that those that have not yet gotten the funds, we are still going out and we shall reach out to them.”
Mr Tembo insisted that the PEIF is for everyone irrespective of political or religious affiliation.
“Let me comfort all the members of the public and the Zambian citizen that the Presidential empowerment fund is meant for everyone as long as you are a Zambian and a trader. The idea is that Traders have never had exposure. You people in white collar jobs, like you Journalists, it is easy for you to go in the bank and get a loan but what about the traders and marketeers? They don’t have such exposure and platforms. The President thought it very wise to ensure that we create such a platform and so it is for every Zambian, no political affiliation whatsoever. I mean, we have been to Churches and you must note that we gave out K750 000 that was given out to Churches in Lusaka and a lot of fellowships have received from this initiative so what does that imply? When we go to Churches, we will not say that which political party do you belong to?
If members of the Church receive the money, we are not looking at the faces. So we wish to comfort and assure the people that every Zambian is entitled to the fund,” Mr Tembo said
He said critics of the PEIF are ashamed because the project has proved to be a success.
“The project is going on very well and the number of marketeers are benefiting. You may all be aware that when the President of the Republic of Zambia, Mr Edgar Chagwa Lungu launched the Presidential initiate fund, it received a lot of criticisms from doubting Thomases but I should report that the project is a success,” Mr Tembo said.
