As Zambia was drawing Angola nil-all, Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah was naming a 30 member provisional squad for the Lesotho and Zambia games with the notable absence of highly rated attacker Gyan Asamoah.

Gyan has endured a love hate relationship with the Ghana faithful for missing crucial spot kicks including one that denied the Black Stars a spot in the finals of the Africa Cup of Nations after losing to eventual winners Zambia.

The Al Ain’s star was believed to be on the verge of a comeback with the newly appointed coach trekking to the Middle East to persuade him to reconsider his self imposed international exile.

With midfielder Andre Ayew ruled out due to injury Appiah has handed maiden senior call ups to six players.
According to the Ghana Football Association website nine home-based players have been given a call-up.

Six players handed their maiden senior national team call-ups include Europe-based youngsters Ishmael Yartey and Christian Atsu. Berekum Chelsea trio, Ernest Sowah, Emmanuel Clottey and Richard Kissi Boateng are among the nine domestic faces making the list.

The team will start a non-residential camp in Accra on 21 May, 2012. The squad will be pruned before the team departs to Kumasi on 27th May ahead of the match against Lesotho on 1st June, 2012.

Ghana faces Lesotho in Kumasi for Appiah’s first game before they play Zambia on June 9 in Ndola.

Meanwhile, Zambia drew Angola nil all in their first competitive match since being crowned African champions on February 12.

According to FAZ, coach Herve Renard is satisfied with the draw ahead of crucial 2014 Brazil World Cup qualifiers against Sudan and Ghana next month

Renard reportedly was excited about the defence’s account but believes Zambia should have done better offensively.

“These young players need to work extremely hard. They have a future in this team,” FAZ quotes Renard.

According to FAZ, Angola fielded a number of first team players, therefore, they believe a draw was a job well done for Zambia who had six players that won gold medal at the Africa Cup in Gabon.

Power Dynamos skipper Joseph Sitali was the best man on the pitch in match that kicked off at 17:00 hours local time.

Team List

Goalkeepers:

Daniel Adjei (Liberty Professionals), Robert Dabuo (Wa All Stars), Adam Kwarasey Ernest Sowah (Stromsgodset), Ernest Sowah (Berekum Chelsea)

Defenders:

Daniel Addo (Standard Liege), Lee Addy (Dalian Aerbin), Harrison Afful (Esperance), Masawudu Alhassan (Genoa), Richard Kissi Boateng (Berekum Chelsea), John Boye (Rennes), Samuel Inkoom (Dnipro), Daniel Opare (Standard Liege), Rashid Sumaila (Dwarfs), Isaac Vorsah (Hoffenheim),

Government has disclosed that it has from April 2012 to date recruited about 2,500 health workers at a cost of K77 billion.

Health Deputy Minister Patrick Chikusu says the ministry also plans to open up a training institution similar to Chainama College that offer training in health sciences.

Dr. Chikusu says this will help the government address the shortage of manpower currently being faced in the health sector.

Dr. Chikusu who has been touring health facilities in the country says from the tours he has undertaken so far, he has learnt that there is urgent need to address the staff shortage in the health sector.

He adds that the PF government has in the 2012 budget set aside some money meant for in-service training.

Dr. Chikusu was speaking to QFM news in an exclusive interview.

And Dr. Chikusu has also said that health personnel working in the Diaspora have expressed interest in taking up jobs in Zambia currently being advertised by the ministry of health.

He says the ministry has so far received applications from Zambian medical officers working within the southern region and those in the western countries hit by the effects of the global recession.

Dr. Chikusu has attributed the interest by the Zambians health workers to return home to the improved conditions of service being offered by government.

He says workers in the health sector are able to access mortgage loans among other improved conditions of service.

Commerce Trade and industry minister Bob Sichinga says he has no apologies to make over his statement in which he suggested that there is need for the country to start processing copper locally.

Mr. Sichinga says as long as remains minister in charge of commerce he will ensure will continue to push for the establishment of industries that will be able to process copper locally as this will contribute towards the creation of jobs for the over 4 million unemployed youths in the country.

The minister has cited ZAMEFA as one company that has been processing raw copper since the 1970%u2019s without making any losses.

He adds that condemning him that he is pushing for the bans on the exports of raw copper have misunderstood his stance.

Mr. Sichinag has noted that some mining companies are exporting copper to its subsidiaries at a lower price a situation he says has continued to distort the prices of copper on the market to the disadvantage of Zambia.

Mr. Sichinga was speaking last evening when he during a preview of AGOA forum 2012 ministerial trade and investment mission trip to the United States which is slated for next month.

The two week trip is being organized by the American chamber of commerce in Zambia and will take on board official from the ministry of Commerce, and Zambia Development Agency (ZDA.

And American Chamber of Commerce in Zambia president Greg Marchand noted that the said the trip is aimed at enhancing bilateral trade and investment between the Zambian and American business community.

Mr Marchand noted that trip would big the private sectors in Zambia and USA to discuss potential business joint ventures.

The Zambia national team comprised mainly of local players were held to a 0 %u2013 0 draw by Angola in a friendly game played in Luanda today.

Fielding two debutants in Division one outfit Kabwe Warriors captain Rodrick Kabwe and Zimbabwe based U20 defender Aaron Katebe in the starting line-up, coach Herve Renard will fly back to Lusaka the happier of the two coaches as he managed to get a point off a more experience Angolan team despite him fielding a more experimental side.

Renard made not less than 8 substitutes to his starting line-up in the second half which had started with a 4 %u2013 4 %u2013 2 formation against an Angolan side which fielded a number of 1st team players.

The second half saw the introduction of Felix Nyaende for Evans Kangwa, Chakwa Lungu for Reynold Kampamba, Dennis Banda for Rodrick Kabwe and Govenda Simwala for Jimmy Chisenga who did not have a solid game going back.

Captain on the day Felix Katongo who had a good game was also substituted for Stephen Kabamba while Kennedy Mudenda came in for Chakwa.

The African Champions will be applauded more for their defensive discipline in this game than their attack especially that they did not hit the target in the second half.

It seemed to be more of giving each player a chance and not losing the game for the Africa cup of nations winning coach as his team ended the game playing a 4 %u2013 5 %u2013 1 with Felix Nyaende leading the line, Aaron Katebe moving to the holding midfield role with Thomas Nyirenda advancing into a more attacking role. This pushed Power Dynamos Captain, who was the best player on the day for the African Champions, wide and Zambia was left to defend for long spells of the game.

In a post match interview, Renard who wore his traditional white shirt, expressed satisfaction with the out come of the game and applauded his team for the performance especially that they only had two days of training together.

He also hailed his team%u2019s defensive performances but acknowledged that they could have done better on the offense.

Though the incident reportedly occurred in January, Phiri made the revelations last week.

He said after collapsing, his wife and her partner took to their heels without administering first aid on him.

“I loved her with all my heart but she betrayed me. I do not want anything to do with her,” said Phiri.

Zambians for Empowerment and Development (ZED) president Fredrick Mutesa has observed that the attainment of the health related Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by 2015 is far from being achieved.

Dr. Mutesa has told Qfm news in an interview that the current state of public hospitals in the country does not give hope that Zambia will meet its health MDGs with 2 years left before the deadline.

He has therefore urged government to prioritize quality health care through increased budgetary allocations.

The opposition party leader adds that most of the health infrastructure across the country remains dilapidated and that government should heed to the concerns raised by various stakeholders.

He has called for accountability in the manner funds are handled in the health sector.

IN a dramatic turn of events, incarcerated business executive, Mathew Mohan has come out claiming that suspended Supreme Court Judge, Phillip Musonda, visited him at prison to coerce him not to testify against him if called as a witness before the tribunal set up to probe the conduct of three judges.

President Michael Sata suspended Supreme Court Judge Musonda together with High Court judges, Charles Kajimanga and Nigel Mutuna and set up a tribunal to investigate their conduct.

Media reports last week stated that Mr Justice Musonda had, three days after his suspension, visited Mohan at Chimbokaila Prison where the latter was currently serving a two-and-half-year sentence for theft.

But Justice Minister Sebastian Zulu, in a letter to the President, which was published by the Times on Saturday 12th May 2012, said Mr Justice Musonda had visited him at his office on May 9 this year where he denied having visited Mohan.

The judge also lodged a complaint that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Mutembo Nchito had conspired with the Zambia Security Intelligence Services (ZSIS) to fabricate evidence against him to destroy him.

Mr Justice Musonda claimed he did not even know Mohan.

But Mohan alleged yesterday at the Lusaka Magistrate’s court during a snap media briefing that he recalled that Mr Justice Musonda visited him and asked him not to testify against him during the tribunal sittings.

Mohan, who said he was ready to testify before the tribunal about the alleged corruption in the Judiciary, alleged that Mr Justice Musonda could not dictate to him what he should or not say.

“It’s true that Mr Justice Musonda visited me in prison and everyone saw him. I spoke to him and I do not know why he is panicking. He came to beg me not to testify against him in the tribunal,” Mohan said.

The former Ink-Tech managing director, after appearing before deputy registrar of High Court, Chilombo Phiri where he is facing corruption charges, said that it was shameful for Mr Justice Musonda to claim not to know him.

“Today Musonda is saying he does not know me, shame. In Bemba they say “Tabatuka ng’wena amolu yali mumenshi.” No one will stop me from talking the truth about how rotten and corrupt Mr Justice Musonda is,” said Mohan.

Mohan further said that he would not comment much on Mr Justice Musonda’s visit but only say “a beggar is not a chooser.”

He said, in a statement copied to his lawyers Bonaventure Mutale SC, Likando Kalaluka and Kennedy Kaunda from Ellis and Company, that Justice Musonda and his group would not tell him what to say.

Mohan alleged that Mr Justice Musonda first went to his lawyers but after failing to achieve anything, he went to offer him a reward to keep quiet over certain matters.

He said Mr Justice Musonda should not accuse Mr Nchito and ZSIS of anything because they were not there when they allegedly engaged in corrupt activities.

Mohan was yesterday expected to give his defence in a case where he and two others are alleged to have offered K10 million to a court interpreter.

Ms Phiri yesterday set June 28, as judgment day in the matter.

Politic Analyst Neo Simutanyi says the race for the Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) presidency is between former Zambian envoy to Canada Nevers Mumba and former cabinet minster Felix Mutati.

In an interview with Qfm News in Lusaka today, Dr. Simutanyi observes that the two candidates seem to have the attributes that the general MMD membership is looking for.

He states that while all aspiring candidates have necessary qualifications to lead the party, the MMD needs a fearless and charismatic leader who is capable of providing checks and balances to the ruling Patriotic Front.

The political analyst adds that the former ruling party should also elect a leader who appeals to all Zambians across the country and can easily be sold to the electorate.

And Dr. Simutanyi has charged that the appointment of a tribunal by President Michael Sata to probe the alleged professional misconduct by the three suspended justices is within his constitutional powers.

He says it is only through the tribunal that the three Judges can clear their names of the allegations leveled against them.

Dr. Simutanyi has also explained that it is still possible to apply for judicial review in the matter if the outcome of the tribunal is not accepted by either party.
