The national team technical bench says it is hoping the the reported injury of Chipolopolo midfielder Rainford Kalaba is not serious enough to rule him out of the June 8 and 15 World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Sudan respectively.

National team assistant coach Patrice Beaumelle said Kalaba was a very important player and the team was hoping it was a serious injury.

“Of course we are hoping that Kalaba’s injury is not serious you know the importance of Rainford Kalaba in the team,” he said.

“So we will make sure that the injury is not too much to affect himself and the squad as well.”

Beaumelle said they would wait for the medics to offer a diagnosis.

“…but we just have to wait to have a diagnosis from the doctor to know what is the situation,” he said.

Kalaba has sat out of the last three TP Mazembe fixtures after sustaining a calf injury in a match against Sanga Balende.

The Zambian bench will have to wait to hear from their TP Mazembe counterparts on the seriousness of the injury as Zambia shapes up for the Brazil 2014 World Cup fixtures lined up next month.

Zanaco midfielder Roderick Kabwe has been ruled out this Saturday’s international friendly match against Namibia due to injury.

Team Doctor Joseph Kabungo said preliminary investigations had shown that the player had torn tissue on the ankle and a muscle strain on the knee and was due for another medical appointment to ascertain the extent of the damage.

Kabungo said the midfielder would therefore not make the trip to Windhoek.

“We did a couple of X-rays and so far we have found that he has torn soft tissue ligaments on the ankle and a muscle strain on the knee. We will do another check tomorrow to ascertain the extent of my damage basically that rules him out of the friendly on Saturday,” Kabungo said.

“He will have to see an orthopedic tomorrow.”

Kabwe was named in Herve Renard’s 24 member squad but will have to stay behind and hope the injury does not rule him out of the June 8 and 15 Brazil 2014 World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Sudan.

The team is expected to leave by road for Windhoek today.

Former agriculture minister Eustarckio Kazonga says the MMD members that have been defecting to the patriotic front have no vision for the nation and the people they represent.

Dr. Kazonga says the Members of Parliament that have been ditching the former ruling party are not doing justice to the Zambian people because they are costing the nation a lot of resources.

Dr. Kazonga explains that the MPs should also understand that one can still contribute positively to the development of the nation whether one is in government or not regardless one’s political affiliation.

He adds that it unfortunate to see that the ruling patriotic front government has continued to poach more members from the opposition at the expense of tax payers.

Dr. Kazonga has since advised the opposition MPs to stand firm and stay in the party’s so that they help in providing proper checks and balances to the ruling party.

Last week twelve civil society organizations that included YALI, declared every Friday of a week Black Friday on which all people with particular concerns of how the Patriotic Front (PF) is governing the country will be wearing black attire to express their displeasure.

YALI Board Chairperson Andrew Ntewewe also notes it is sad that government has still maintained its position on lifting subsidies despite the continued agitations from various stakeholders in the country.

Mr. Ntewewe has further challenged President Michael Sata and his administration to tell the Zambian people on how he is going to trim down his blotted government.

MMD president Nevers Mumba says it is immoral and hypocritical for the PF government to continue implementing capitalist policies when they draw up a socialist contract with the Zambian people before forming government.

Dr. Mumba has charged that if the PF wants to govern the country with a type of governance that leans to that of capitalism contrary to what it promised the Zambia people to govern with, it should call for a general election and ask the Zambian people to vote for it on a different platform and contract.

Dr. Mumba notes that the PF won the 2011 general election on the premise that it will implement socialist policies that will reduce the cost of living of the people but that the capitalist leaning it is embarking on is a deception that Zambian people should not accept.

The MMD president was speaking at press briefing in Lusaka this afternoon.
Meanwhile the MMD president has condemned in the strongest terms the harassing of MMD members by the PF cadres at Lusaka City Market this morning.

Dr. Mumba has expressed sadness with the continued attempt by the ruling PF to try to stifle the expression of the Zambian people through the practice of violent politics as was exhibited today when a mob of PF cadres pounced on four MMD officials.
And one of the MMD members that was harassed bowman Lusambo has confirmed having been abducted for about one, a period in which he was forced to support government’s move to lift fuel subsidies.

PRESS RELEASE

2013 Resolve Award Recognizes Zambia for Advances in Reproductive Health Care

Geneva, May 22, 2013 –Today, Zambia will receive the prestigious Resolve Award, which honors
nations for expanding access to essential reproductive health services. The Honorable Dr. Joseph
Kasonde, Minister of Health, will accept the Award on behalf of the Government of Zambia at a
ceremony celebrating the Resolve Awardees during the 66th World Health Assembly in Geneva,
Switzerland.

The Award honors Zambia’s efforts to ensure that all people have access to primary and
reproductive health services, and to provide those services in a convenient, integrated way. “People
do not want to go to separate facilities for family planning and for child health,” says Dr. Kasonde.
“We are working to meet all of their health needs in one place.”

Integrated service delivery is part of a larger restructuring and strengthening of health services in
Zambia. A decade ago, Zambia’s rates of HIV/AIDS and maternal and child mortality were among
the world’s highest, and access to family planning and reproductive health care was limited. Years
of “structural adjustment” had decimated the country’s health and social service sectors.

In response, over the last decade, the Zambian government increased spending on primary and
reproductive health by 50%. Today, family planning, HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment and
maternal and child health services are offered free of charge in the public sector. And the
government is constructing 650 new rural health posts, to facilitate integrated service delivery.

These efforts are producing measurable results. In the decade since Zambia adopted the new
approach:

. Contraceptive use increased from 15% to 41%
. More than three quarters of pregnant women living with HIV have been provided with
anti-retroviral drugs and counseling to prevent transmission
. Maternal mortality has declined by 40%
. Malaria deaths have been reduced by 67%

As a recipient of the Resolve Award, Zambia’s efforts to improve primary and reproductive health
will receive international attention. The Resolve Award is granted by the Global Leaders Council
for Reproductive Health (GLC), a group of eighteen sitting and former heads of state, high-level
policymakers and other leaders who build political leadership for increased financial and technical
support for reproductive health.

Resolve Award winners are chosen through a competitive global nominations process. In addition
to Zambia, this year’s winners include The Gambia and Kenya, with a special mention to Sierra
Leone.

The Award will be presented by GLC Chair Joy Phumaphi. Ms. Phumaphi, who also serves as
Executive Secretary of the African Leaders Malaria Alliance (ALMA), is the former Minister of
Health for Botswana.

Zambia and other Resolve Award winners can inspire other nations, says Phumaphi. “There are
many barriers to reproductive health access. It might be that services are too expensive or
inconvenient. It might be abusive husbands who do not want their wives to use family planning.
But, as the Resolve Award winners have shown, all of these barriers can be overcome.”

As the world’s nations discuss development strategies to replace the Millennium Development
Goals, which expire in 2015, Kenya and other Resolve Award winners can point the way forward.
“The Resolve Award winners show what we can do—and what we must do—to lead the way to
universal access to reproductive health and rights,” says Phumaphi.

Ghanaian Bishop Isaac Owusu Bempah, Founder and Leader of the Glorious Word Power Ministries International, has labeled two of Nigeria’s celebrated pastors as partners in winning souls for the devil.

In the words of the controversial Owusu Bempah, the founding President of Believers’ LoveWorld Incorporated, also known as “Christ Embassy”, Dr Christian Oyakhilome (popularly known as “Pastor Chris”) and General Overseer of The Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN), Prophet Temitope Balogun (aka TB) Joshua, are not “true men of God”, but leaders of occults, winning souls for the devil.

This claim, according to Owusu-Bempah, is based on God’s revelation to him in a vision as well as his own analysis of the scripture, works and conduct of the two popular heads of two religious organisations in Africa.

Owusu-Bempah said he once heard Pastor Chris saying he saw nothing wrong with homosexuality and lesbianism, and wondered which true man of God would lead his flock with such beliefs.

“No doubt he [Pastor Chris] is a friend and partner of TB Joshua”, Owusu-Bempa noted last week, claiming both men are dubious men of God who have a pact with the devil.

For Owusu Bempah, Nigerians have allegedly realized the dubious character of the Nigerian televangelist faith healer and founding president of Christ Embassy and his partnership with TB Joshua and have consequently chased him out of the country to South Africa, where he presently resides.

On TB Joshua, Owusu-Bempa claimed he once saw him with his feet on the floor preaching, an incident he said revealed to him that TB Joshua was not from God.

“When you see anyone claiming to worship God who worships with his feet on the ground, he’s an occultist. And TB Joshua is an occultist.

“Ask yourself how TB Joshua, who claims God called him, worships with his feet on the ground? Let me tell you if you go to any church and you see the leader worshiping with his feet on the ground, it’s a sign of demonism; it’s occultic. People like that follow spirits that are not of God. It is occultic.”

According to him, God later revealed that TB Joshua was an occultist who did not draw his spiritual powers from God.

“Some time ago, I used to like TB Joshua. I was watching him on television, and the Lord opened my eyes. I saw him with horns on his head, and he had the face of a wolf. His tongue was that of a snake and he had blood smeared all over his mouth.”

“Immediately, I rushed into my bedroom, and the Lord told me that he wasn’t from Him, but was working under the authority of bad spirits,” the pastor added. ”That was when I realized TB Joshua was demonic and not of God.”

The man who has himself been labeled a false prophet by some of his critics, advised Ghanaians not to be misled by signs of wonders and so-called men of God whose powers do not come from God.

He also accused TB Joshua in particular of sometimes faking miracles to win the confidence of his flock. “He can perform a clean miracle today and contaminate it with a lot of fake ones”.

Joshua claimed his “own junior pastor went to his church to be healed. He was forced to sit in a wheel chair and made to claim before the cameras that he had received his healing even though he hadn’t. He returned to the country and within two weeks, he passed away”, Owusu-Bempah stated.

He again cautioned Ghanaians not to be in a hurry to attend the services of Prophet TB Joshua since he is the “anti-christ.”
“If you are a pastor who worked under him and he gets to know you want to reveal his secrets, he kills you directly,” Owusu-Bempah alleged.

“If no one is willing to say this, I will say it: TB Joshua is the anti-christ and an agent of the devil… I know of a pastor who attended his church, and when he should tell you about what he saw, your mouth would drop,” he stated.

Chief Registrar of Societies Kakoma Kanganja has ordered the immediate shut down of the Mutima Wa lowa Church, which was reported to have been encouraging members to have sex with each other based on dreams.
Yesterday, on Monday Mr Kanganja summoned the church leadership to his office but failed to present registration documents. Mr Kanganja said the church was deregistered on March 1999 but has been operating illegally.

Mr Kanganja said on March 19, 1999, the Ministry of Home Affairs granted authority to de-register the church but despite the order, the office let the matter ‘die a natural death’, hence the church being in operation illegally to date.
Mr Kanganja said the church was under investigation for alleged involvement in vices, including encouraging prostitution and nudity.
