South African High Commissioner to Zambia Moses Chikane has urged Zambians to guard jealously the peace and stability that the country has continued to enjoy since independence in 1964.
Speaking with QFM in an exclusive interview, Ambassador Chikane says the African region looks up to Zambia as an example and a trend setter in holding peaceful elections.
He said as the country holds the Presidential, Parliamentary and Local Government elections later this year, there is need for political players to reconcile for the good of the nation.
Mr. Chikane explains that even though people may experience tension on the political platform in the run up to the polls, peace is paramount and that all political stakeholders must strive to preserve peace in the country.
The foreign diplomat has since made a passionate appeal to the political leaders, the church and other interest groups in the country to safeguard the image of Zambia as a haven of peace and tranquility on the African continent.
Mr. Chikane has however expressed confidence that the forthcoming tripartite elections will be free and fair.
