Police Arrest Mazabuka Man, 63 For Murder

POLICE in Mazabuka have arrested a 63-year-old man of Kaleya area in connection with the brutal murder of a 27-year-old man who was killed using a knife after a quarrel over nshima.

And confusion reigned at Mazabuka district hospital on Saturday after residents of Kaleya compound stormed Mazabuka hospital and descended on the murder suspect, much to the surprise of other patients.

Health workers who were caught up in the fracas had to run for their lives as the residents beat up the suspect.

The suspect was earlier picked from Kaleya by Police and was rushed to the hospital to receive treatment following injuries he suffered at the hands of irate residents.

But Police had to rescue the suspect and whisked him to Mazabuka police station where he is currently detained and recovering from the injuries.

Southern Province police commanding officer Lemmy Kajoba who confirmed the murder identified the deceased as Timison Moonga of Tusole compound in Kaleya.

Kajoba commended police officers for thwarting attempts by the angry residents to take the law into their hands, saying without police quick intervention by the police, the suspect would have been badly beaten.

He said the suspect has since been charged with murder and will appear in court soon.

And police in Mazabuka have arrested two suspects to help them with investigations into the murder of a businessman whose body was dumped in Ndeke football ground last week.

Kajoba said the two were arrested from Zambia Compound.
He said investigations into the matter are progressing well as the suspects were cooperating with Police.

Meanwhile, Mazabuka district commanding officer Lizzy Machina said police in the district have intensified patrols in Zambia Compound to rid the township of dangerous criminals.
