Zambia’s export to Sudan Jonas Sakuwaha scored a brace on Saturday night and his goals propelled El Merriekh to a 2-0 away win over Hay Al-Arabs at Port Sudan Stadium in a league match.
And Fwayo Tembo came off the bench to set up one of the goals for FC Basel in their 2-2 draw with Grasshopper in the Swiss league as the Zambian winger played the last 30 minutes.
Sakuwaha got his first at the stroke of half time before adding his second of the night on the hour mark and ensured the Khartoum based club collected maximum points.
Sakuwaha has now taken his tally to 13 goals in the league and 17 in all competitions. In terms of the scoring charts, he is being followed by Power Dynamos’ Lottie Phiri who also hit a brace in the Kitwe giants’ 3-2 away win over Green Eagles in the MTN Super League. Lottie now has 10 goals and looks likely to beat the 14 goals Dube Phiri scored last season to emerge as the leading scorer on the local scene.
Elsewhere from the players abroad, Chisamba Lungu will miss Ural’s league match because of slight knock though he is expected to resume training later this week while Emmanuel Mayuka has also missed Young Boys’ last two matches with a minor injury. South African based Isaac Chansa is also in the treatment room and has been ruled for 7 weeks.
Meanwhile Chipolopolo Boys coach Dario Bonetti is set to return to Zambia this afternoon ahead of next week’s Chipolopolo Boys training camp for the Zimbabwe friendly match in Harare.
While Sakuwaha has been omitted from the match against the Warriors, the Sudanese Super League second top scorer Edward Sadomba of Al Hilal, who has scored 11 goals will lead the attack for Zimbabwe should Knowledge Musona, who has just signed a 5 year deal in Germany from Kaizer Chiefs fail to pitch up.
Sadomba could be partnered in attack by new Sundowns striker Denver Sithole as his teammate Nyasha Mushekwi is also ruled out. The likes Method Mwajali, Tinashe Nenengomasha and Qadr Amin also in the squad
In terms of team news, Zimbabwe has named a full strength squad including over six European based players for the tie unlike Bonetti who opted to use only African based Chipolopolo stars.
With Zambia’s road to Brazil 2014 World Cup being blocked by Ghana and Sudan, the preparation starts with this match though there’s still a matter of 2012 African Cup of Nations ties against Comoros and Libya to negotiate.
