Kuwait Investor Bought Land Illegally In Chipata

About 80 families in Chipata’s Dam View area have been displaced after the Chipata Municipal Council allegedly sold their land to a Kuwait investor.
The residents, who claimed that the land was on title and belonged to the late Rosemary Phiri, complained that the local authority did not follow the normal procedure when selling land in 2006.
The resident who conveged at the provincial administration office appealed to government to immediately address the matter.
“We went to Paramount Chief Mpezeni’s palace to assist us but we found that he was out so we have come here to complain to the permanent secretary. We have been displaced and as we are talking now, the investor who illegally bought the land is busy building,” one of the affected residents said.
“We want government to come in because we are voters. Those investors do not vote.”
The claimed land is a Commercial land number 1561 and 1559.
The land in question was allegedly sold to the investor in 2006 when Bernard Siwakwi served as Chipata town clerk.
