Gospel Ace, Ephraim Mutalange Condemned

Zambian Gospel sensation, Ephraim Mutalange was this morning on ZNBC radio having an interview.
Ephraim whose popular gospel hit songs like Lesa Talekelesha, Alasanika among others this morning disappointed gospel fans when he was asked to share with the listeners which music he draws his inspiration from and which Zambian musician he would do a recording with, only for him to answer that he draws his inspiration from the circular music (World Music) and that Exile ‘Siku Yalelo’ as an artist he adores, admires and would do a song with given the chance.
Meanwhile, a cross section of Christian society expressed dismay at Ephraims utterance saying as a gospel artist, they expected such a person to be drawing his total inspiration from God almighty through musicians like Don Moen, Kirk Franklin, Micheal W. Smith, Lemmy Leblanc among others.
Some other fans acknowledged his gift but wondered why Ephraim has been of late spotted at secular organized gigs.
Ephraim recently touched down as he was abroad in the United States Of America (U.S.A) doing a recording on his upcoming album.

I thought so called Gospel music draws inspiration from circular musicians. Why does it have to sound like Koffi Olomide’s music?

Jesus was seen with sinners. Why should we condemn the man. let god judge him. Christianity is in his heart. Some of the so called Christians are hypocrites. So let us no judge Ephraim. May be he has seen something good in Exile

most zambian gospel artists get their inspiration from circular music.. namely; ephraim and all these chaps who sing gospel congolese music sounding like e’fracata.

hey guys ,dont rush to condenm him. christianity is at different levels.some are orthodox ,others are conservative and also liberal….lets just enjoy is music and not judge him for wat he said.only God will judge him.not all gospel music we listen to is coming from pure hearts.i go to hilsong church in london and tell u the truth,an orthodox christain will find the worship atmosphere different and maybe boring.pliz guys no one is perfect and none is righteuos no not one

come on guys whats the fuss about drawing inspiration from world music and use it for the better. he did not say he wants to do world music but if the chap in world music sings better than a church chap what did you expect him to say. more over maybe they were friends with exile

Why haven’t they complained about “Rhumba Gospel” which originates from secular Congolese Music and is filing most of our churches? And why pass judgement on secular artistes as if they too were not given the talent by God? Zambians, let us stop being primitive. The world is waking up and you are complaining about something that has no value! Atase ukuba Christian nation uku? FOOLS

  19. Cindy

    August 29, 2011 at 11:46 am

Indeed we are going towards the end of the world where a person can criticise the fact of being a christian nation people lets not loos focus.Gospel is Gospel and circular is circular as an Artist since he chose Gospel let him live up to it its like a Pastor being found in Gigs how will he preach to people and ask then to people to change?Problem pa zed is that people want fast money and tend to pretend who they are not all in the name of MONEY.

  20. peggy

    August 29, 2011 at 2:03 pm

Its clear that zambians want to appear holy when Jesus spent most of his time amongst sinners when he was here on earth to try and change them hence if Ephraim wants to sing with people who do circular music and in the process they find our Lord Jesus so be it.He without sin shud cast the first stone………………………………..

There is nothing wrong with getting inspiration from a non beleiver ( by the way EXILE is now born again) Do not be quick to judge. the man touches peoples lives by his gift.

I still feel he is very anointed and where he gets his inspiration on how he sings does not really matter.

God is stilling Ephraim and i support him full time in his ministry.

who am i to condemn Ephraim, when i myself am not without faults but God still decided to use me, God Used David in the Bible and referred to him as a man after his own hear yet David committed Adultery and even Killed. God Used Paul and yet he used to persecute Christians.

I say may God Continue to use Ephraim to bless the hearts of man

    August 30, 2011 at 11:02 am

Why are we so fast in judging others. The man was being honest, you wanted him to lie just to please you & not his God. Think of this, is it right for a christian IT SPECIALIST TO BE INSPIRED BY BILLGETS?
The man didn’t he love singing secular music but his is inspired & Exile is a good musician that is just a fact. Get real people.

I don’t concur with the author of this story. Don’t try to deceive us. I had the chance to listen to the interview on ZNBC radio 2. I guess you misunderstood Ephraim. He never said he gets his inspiration from secular music. Infact it’s the interviewer who forced him to mention at least one secular Zambian artist apart from Zambian gospel artists who he felt he could record a song with. He declined to mentioned until the interviewer insisted and that’s how Exile was mentioned. He never said he adores him. I feel the author of this story is just a hater. And remember Jesus came for sinners and not righteous people and thats how he used to hang out with sinners which puzzled many. So is Ephraim, he ministers at secular gigs so that they can hear the word of God through his music and in the end no one, including you the author of this false story and you haters out there, won’t make an excuse when Jesus comes again that you never heard the gospel. Don’t try to bring the talented guy by publishing false stories. Shame on you.

Mwebantu shuwa, before you condemn this guy , take a look at the person in the mirror, busy criticising nga imwe……. where is it written in the bible that once ya christian stay away from those who are not? what is wrong with him admiring Exile`s music, does it mean because he sings gospel music he should detouch himself from everything unchritian, Jesus came to save us, bonse sinners and non sinners, so who is he not to mix with such, ati “he is a disgrace to the gospel fratenity” really …..

I Couldn’t agree more. And why are we judging people just because they sing secular music?

  36. Leonard Koloko

    September 2, 2011 at 9:03 am

Nothing wrong really. Art is divine in its own sense so where you get inspiriation from does not matter. A lot of secular artistes do get inspiration from gospel artistes and vice-versa. The legendary born again singer Cliff Richard once said “Why should the devil have all the good music.”

  37. Devil's Advocate

    September 6, 2011 at 2:08 am

Why are people being so judgmental!!! If that is where he draws his inspiration from then it’s where he draws it from! Singing secular music doesn’t necessarily make one a sinner. And why are people praying for him, pray for yourselves!! I find inspiration in his music; whether he’s wanted to sing secular music or not, that’s his own journey. I thank God that he at least helps me find answers to questions that I have through his music. Whatever else he chooses to do, I leave God to be the judge. I cant get angry just because he didn’t say Dan Moen or whoever else is his inspiration, I don’t know those people. I have no idea what they do when they’re not singing. Keep your head up Ephraim, you destiny is between you and God and thank you for brightening my days with your music!

Seriously, after being all judgmental, hypocritical, and after putting up your “holier than thou” act…HOW do you sleep at night?

Every noble soul will leave behind a legacy…either they contributed to the betterment of the world and the upliftment of its kindred, or they will have been a part of its distraction…which one are you?

Hypocrites leave ephraim alone. He was just being real, true 2 himself and God.

We all fall short of the glory most of the time, that simply means we are not perfect. I do understand why you haters are saying this, for it is the opportunity of your life time 2 say it, but remember God knows all the skeletons you are hiding in your closets. At least ephraim said the truth. Ephraim keep on doing the good work man.

You have blessed so many people out there with your music and keep doing it. Don’t pay attention to what these haters are saying, keep your head up and focus on what you want to do next.

I was in a similar situation years back. People talked and they are stil talking but i don’t pay attention to what they say. I’ll keep on doing what i do and please do the same.

Keep up the good work ephraim and God bless you!!!!

Dont fooled all the American gospel singers drew or draw inspiration from secular musicians, they listen to all types of music as long as its clean.you need different music for different ocasions.Zambians are still backwards, here in America Christians enjoy life and music when it’s good including the so called Kirk Franklin and other popular gospel singers.
