Alliance for Democracy and Development (ADD) leader Charles Milupi has observed that the country has experienced gross human rights violations over the years which have had a negative impact on society.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Qfm, Mr. Milupi says even the political violence that is currently prevailing on the political scene is as a result of lack of respect for people’s rights.
He has expressed concern at the manner in which human rights are being trampled upon by those in authority adding that people should not live in fear as Zambia is a sovereign state in which people’s rights must be respected.
Mr. Milupi says once elected in office, his government will stress the balancing of powers of the three arms of government which are the legislature, Executive and the Judiciary so that no arm has excessive powers than the other.
He says the ADD will also emphasize the shifting of powers into the norms of society beginning with the Bill of rights so that they are enshrined and enforced within the Republican Constitution.
He adds that the current constitution is not balanced and that it is the root cause of the numerous problems people are facing in the country.
