This time around the University of Zambia students have put their foot down to condemn violence, the UNZASU has called on the Zambia police to provide leadership and stop violence, it has further issued a 48-hour ultimatum for the arrest of MMD Provincial Chairperson William Banda and bring him to book.
The ultimatum is from UNZASU Publicity and Information Secretary, Beatrice Nakazwe and UNZAPOSA President, Isaac Mwaipopa.
The students say he has been involving himself in violence which is very unfortunate as a leader and called on leaders to be civilized and not use primitive ways like it happened during the fight for independence.
The two students’ bodies have further blamed the police for continued spate of violence ahead of the general elections.
However Province Commander, Mhlakeni Zulu says police are investigating complaints against Lusaka Province MMD chairman, William Banda.
Mr Zulu says investigations over the complaints which have to do with violence have since advanced.
And Police in Lusaka have arrested Chawama MMD youth Chairperson, Nathan Phiri for attacking another man with an iron bar.
Lusaka Province Police Commander, Mlakeni Zulu has told Muvi TV news that Mr Phiri is alleged to have attacked 21-year-old Chilufya Kunda.
Mr Zulu has explained that Mr Phiri was handed over to the police by his fellow MMD cadres after the attack.

While Equally condemn violence irrespective of the perpetrator,Students have no right to give instructions to the Police who are professionals in how,where, when,what why and who to arrest. Its not just a question of arresting without procedure as any unlawful is suffered by individual officers. You students just concentrate on your studies, society and its challenges is awaiting for you after graduating. Many police officers have now acquired degree qualifications and they know best their job.
Imwe naimwe ba Impi fyacilamo, William was beating pipo in the presence of the 40 policemen, why didn’t they arrest him there and then. But if it was opposition cadres they would have been in police cells as we are talking. How can they be investigating a case that was happening in their eyes. so, the degree qualifications they are acquiring now say when one commits an offense in their presence, they let them go free and investigate later at their own time, and in the process the case will die naturally.

Learn from what has happened to the IG in Kenya who has been extradited to ICC for misconducting himself during political violence.
