Republican President Michael Chilufya Sata has nominated more MPs than he is allowed by the constitution, Tumfweko understands.
The current Zambian constitution allows the president to nominate at most 8 MPs at any given time but Sata has appointed 10.
The relevant part of the constitution says ‘the President may, at any time after a general election to the National Assembly and before the National Assembly is next dissolved, appoint such number of persons as he considers necessary to enhance the representation in the National Assembly as regards special interests or skills, to be nominated members of the National Assembly, so, however, that there are not more than eight such members at any onetime.’
But Sata has appointed Bob Sichinga, Ngosa Siambukula, John Phiri, Panji Kaunda, Samuel Mukupa, Sebastian Zulu, Willie Nsanda, Alexander Chikwanda, Solomon Mbuzi and Joseph Kasonde.
All the nominated MPs have been appointed as either ministers or deputy ministers.
Info trooping tumfweko is that the President is contemplating on dropping one of the ministers just appointed.

I have no hussle about the cabinet but the president should be careful with trying to appease some people. GBM and Nsanda should have been deputies in those ministries. Running a fleet of buses is different from running a minsitry. Sata should have nominated Mumbi Phiri than appointing Prof Luo who just hijacked that seat from her young sister.

It is not as easy to rule as it looks. The PF does not seem to know the constitution. Why haven’t they appointer a constitutional lawyer to advise them?
People, the Constitition of Zambia Bill of 2010 has not been enacted. And Article 68 of the current Constitution(the 1996 one) says that only up to 8 persons can be nominated to parliament. So the issue of up to 10 is an error.
Early signs!It is strange that the President can fumble in such a manner. Maybe he thought the Mung’omba draft constitution was passed into law; that is the only one that allowed that number. It seems that the man is not capable of seeking advice. This is the same arrogance that Chanda Chimbwi pointed out. You may hate the guy, but the only thing he exaggerated was the satanic claim. The issue is simple – the man did the whole thing alone without any advisors, that is why he made the mistake. The advisers of course only talked to him after the appointments… Well, at least he was able to remember the names of the airports he renamed! By the time the 90 days is over, there will be more renaming. Zambezi river will be called Cobra, Luangwa will be called Panji, Luapula will be called GBM; then the lakes will follow, and the cities and towns, and finally the country itself will be called Patrioticia.Even State House will be renamed Pabwato House.
