JERABOS Beat Mouners As They Fight And ‘Exchange Blows’ With Police Officers
POLICE in Mufulira have arrested 18 copper dealers, commonly known as JERABOS, for beating up mourners at Kansuswa cemetery.
Copperbelt acting commanding officer Milner Muyambango confirmed the development in an interview and said the JERABOS would be charged for various offences.
“We have arrested 18 JERABOS. What happened was that a family was burying their relative using shovels. When the JERABOS came to the cemetry, they went straight to grab the shovels from the other family, saying they wanted to bury their friend. The family became upset and resisted but the JERABOS started beating them,” Muyambango said.
He said in the process, one Jerabo hacked a man with a shovel and he sustained a broken shoulder.
Muyambango said the mouners were rescued by two police officers, and they managed to arrest one of the unruly men.
He said when they (JERABOS) learnt that one of their friends had been arrested and was taken to Mufulira police station, they stormed the police station and fought with police officers.
“As the JERABOS were coming back from the cemetery heading to the police station to rescue their friend, they beat up anyone they found on the way. At the police station, they fought with the officers. The police managed to arrest 18 of them and they will be charged for various offenses because many residents had come to report to the filling station that they were beaten by JERABOS and they will appear in court,” said Muyambango.
SHI-MUMBI a founding father of the JERABOS was Two weeks ago nabbed and arrested for allegedly orchestrating violence which was likely to cause death.
SHI-MUMBI has since been denied bail. He is ‘being kept’ at Kanfinsa state prisons pending court cases.
One hardcore Kitwe JERABO, Pavyuma Kalobo stood as MP under MMD ticket in Wusakile constituency but failed terribly.

Just yesterday personally raised an issue over unruly behavior of these savages on the copperbelt @ tumfweko, please stiff intervention is required by the police otherwise we call on the president to fire the commanding officer for the province. Zambia is not yet a failed like Nigeria or Somalia!!!!!

I would honastly like to make an apeal to our new government to seriously look into the issue of jerabos in the belt,these guys feel that thy are unstopable and thy can do anything without being arrestd,pliz its high time we stoped this nonsense in our country,make sure that those idiots are jailed and no bail

The problem with people in Lusaka is that they think they are better than those from the Copperbelt. Do you think it is easy to take care of criminals who have the police in their pockets? The police on the copper belt is pathetic, you hear today that these animals have been arrested, tomorrow they will be realized and even continue trellising innocent members of the community simply because most these senior police officers are on the payroll of these animals. I feel Jarabos should and can be easily eradicated from the streets of the copperbelt. Dr. Malama the current IG came from the C/B and he knows these chaps. I am of the view that during his time as C/B commanding officer he could not easily fight them out because of their links to the fallen RB government.
God has anwered our cries by removing their shields [MMD] and put Dr. Malama in a vantage position as IG. All that remains now is a question of WHEN and not HOW do they get into jail or die.
