10 UPND Senior Members Defect To PF

TEN senior United Party for National Development (UPND) members – who hail from Western Province – have resigned from their party to join the ruling Patriotic Front (PF).
The UPND members who were led by former party deputy secretary general and UPND president Hakainde Hichilema’s campaign co-ordinator and strategist, Sikwindi Situla defected to the PF on October 19 at the PF secretariat.

Situla resigned from UPND after he was not adopted to stand in Mumba. He contested as an independent candidate and lost.
The defectors include Patricia Mulasikwanda (chairperson health and nutrition), Inonge Mubayaeta (Western Province chairperson), Beatrice Kwendakwema (deputy national chairperson ) and Queen Kakoma (Western Province treasurer).
Others are Grace Imamunwa (Western Province trustee ), Lawrence Nyambe (chairperson livestock and fisheries), Mulele Munene (Mongu district chairperson), Boyd Moka (former Mongu mayor) and Friday Makondo (a youth leader from Western Province).
Others who joined the PF were Joseph Munsanje – who contested the Mbabala seat as an independent candidate and Nathan Bukonke from North-Western Province.
Speaking during the defection, Mr Situla said the former UPND members have decided to join the PF because UPND’s alliance with MMD.
“We have come as a group to PF to seek refuge in the boat so that those who have blood on their hands of killing our brothers and sisters innocently as they were should come and face justice,” he said.
And PF secretary general and spokesperson Wynter Kabimba said he has been tasked by President Sata to meet groups from Western, Southern and North-Western Provinces.
He said PF members should realise that the party still remains weak in these three provinces hence the need to recruit more people from the provinces.
He said the PF wants to build a national party which cuts across all the provinces.
“We want to have a President in State House who is acceptable to all the Zambian people across the provinces. And that is why you see the president in his deliberate effort to achieve that principle he has made some appointments that cut across our party spectrum,” Mr Kabimba said.
He said PF members should accept Mr Sata’s decision becausehe is not only a PF president but President for all Zambians.
Mr Kabimba said PF members argue with Mr Sata in central committee meetings on why he is so forgiving to some people who allegedly insulted him.
“Mr Sata’s answer is that if me who was been insulted I have forgiven them, what about you who were not insulted? This is the truth about the man known as Michael Sata,” he said.
He said PF members are genuine supporters of the party they should go by the philosophy of President Sata’s way of life and leadership.
Mr Kabimba appealed to PF members to accommodate the members from UPND because the ruling party is a party for Zambians.
PF Western Province chairman Chief Namatulo said the resignation of senior UPND members from the province has paralysed the opposition party.
Earlier, ardent PF members caused commotion and delay of the press briefing at the secretariat when they vowed not to receive the defectors.
Chilenje Ward 8 secretary Francis Mulenga said it is painful that the opposition members are joining the PF to solicit for jobs.
Mr Mulenga said PF members want to enjoy the fruits of their 10-year struggle in opposition and will not allow any person from the opposition to take away the jobs which belongs to PF members.

Welcome them with open arms. They have the drive to implement real policies.I believe they already have jobs looking at the positions they held in their former party. Now they will contend for positions with long time members especially mission jobs.Nevers Mumba hss been recalled together with other chaps.I am eying Canada also.I hope they will not defect in 2080 when UPND wins or sorry by then they will be in heaven or hell anyway only God knows.

as long as upnd wrks with mmd, a lot more members of that party will defect to other parties. HH simz to be a little blind and an certain. Surely MMD has nothng to lose here, they ruled already and are vry sure that their party is the nxt UNIP so they taking hh with them.

I foresee a Lozi president very very soon. There is a very big possibility that Sata may groom a Lozi president to take over the reigns of the party and stand as president in the nearest future and that will surely spell doom for HH. These defections are extremely genuine and are not about job seeking. Who ever thought the PF would ascend to power? PF’s ascension to power is a demonstration that anything is possible. These defections by the Westerners is a demonstration that they are not ready to be part and parcel of the HH tribal disease. They want progress and see change from a positive angle

You see ? Guys lets learn to accept that this is a working government and things are changing for the better. Guys in opposition accept that HH mwana sana and he knows nothing. Yuou probably are better leaders than him. Feel free to defect. Kwena nilisa mwanmwenepo good changes like this mu Zambia. The more you become objective, the more you irritate citizens.

they are using donchi kubeba slogan. give them jobs and they will leave the party thereafter. those are not real defectors they are fake sent by ka HH to disturbalise PF. WATCH OUT PF.

Mongu is the capital of Western Province, administratively, both govt and traditionally. Whatever happens in Mongu affects the whole province – consult history records. Mongu voted PF in last election. Expect this to spread like bush fire. MMD declared itself an enemy in Mongu. Logically, the MMD/UPND pact will never take root in Mongu nor any part of Western Province. W/P defectors are genuine, UPND is dead in the province due to it’s marriage to MMD.

Many would like to defect but they are just shy. Dora, Shikapwasha & RB also want to do the same!

HH IS A VERY SILY POLITICIAN WHO THRIVES ON GREEDINESS, PETTINESS AND SELFISHNESS WHO THINKS WITH HIS TRIBE NOT BRAINS. THE YOUNG MAN IS VERY BITTER AFTER BEING HEAVILY DEFEATED BY KING COBRA. LET HIM SWALLOW HIS PRIDE IF HE WANTS TO REMAIN RELEVANT IN POLITICS.

  20. Rio   October 20, 2011 at 11:16 am

Yaba! These unprincipled, opportunistic politicians we have! Sata should not give jobs to any of them.

  21. CHINGOLAN   October 20, 2011 at 11:30 am

It not about Job seeking kutontonkanya, kuti waikalashani na HH or UPND? I wonder what will remain of UPND if this young chap HH stayed on for another 5yrs. So ni quick thinking kuti mwaisashala babili no mwaice HH. And for sure politics is about numbers so they should just be welcomed nganabacenjela nabakwata namano, then give tham posts. HH is now finished pantu naba Tonga nabobene nabanaka.

My dear friends, let us be serious on this one.

These people have a point for their defection. Mr HH has betrayed them by defecting from UPND to MMD which killed their brothers and sisters.

Had HH handed over upnd leadership to someone else before defecting to MMD, i think these people woudnt have crossed over to PF but unfortunately he defected together with the leadership.

This is why people are saying the man is greedy, selfish, bad e t c. People have realised that HH made a personal decision to join MMD, pulled the party to his decision and later says they have formed a pact.

Gone are the days when zambians could be cheated easily.

HH has been advised to find some direction for UPND or allow somebody else to lead so that they re-establish themselves.HH has managed to drag UPND and the Tonga people in the mad.

My humble appeal to all Zambians is that let us not look at tongas as bad people because of this bad seed(HH) in their midst, its only him who is bad as an individual.

At this point i think he is only left with one option to savive and that is to quickly find a premature exist from politics.
He is no longer relevant in our politics.

  25. WATCHMAN OVER WATCHDOG-Galileo Galilei is back!   October 20, 2011 at 1:15 pm

ALL THE LOZIS NI MWAMUKOLO FELA. NO TRIBALISM MWEBANTU. LOZIS AND BEMBAS CAN WORK TOGETHER. I SEE UNITY OF PURPOSE HERE. JUST LIKE BEMBAS CAN WORK TOGETHER WITH TONGAS IF THERE WILL BE A POINT OF CONVERGENCE IN FUTURE.

I STRONGLY FEEL THAT IT WILL BE NICE TO HAVE A LOZI PRESIDENT BEFORE WE CAN HAVE A TONGA. INFACT TWO LOZIS BEFORE A TONGA.

WE BEMBAS MUST WORK WELL WITH OUR LOZI BROTHERS AND SISTERS AND LET US IGNORE THE OLD FEUDS THER MAY HAVE BEEN. THESE ARE INCONSEQUENTIAL NOWADAYS.

TONGAS I DON’T HATE YOU MYSELF BUT THE FALLEN PACT ISSUES SEEM TO HAVE DRIVEN OUR RELATIONSHIP APART. SOCIALLY WE WILL CONTINUE TO MARRY YOUR WOMEN WHILE POLITICALLY OUR LOZIS WILL BE OUR DARLINGS!

    A LOZI TO SUCCED SATA!

  26. Zibwidi   October 20, 2011 at 1:47 pm

Now that is how bad things can get for MMD. What the people of Western Province are saying is that they do not want to associate themselves with MMD. They would have loved to be within UPND but since MMD are losers, they would want to associate themselves with losers who are desperate at the same time, they actual have seen no future with them. They have suffered and it is time to move on with the boat that will bring development to flood area as Western Province. They are openly declaring being allergic to the name or word MMD. Parties come and go efyo baile by MMD….finished.
