GOLD Scam Fugitive Sues, Demands US$100m As Compensation From Government
EMBATTLED Swiss Businessman and former Zambia’s envoy to UNESCO in Geneva, Dr. Nicola Bogdan Buzaianu, has threatened to sue the Zambia’s government and the country’s media.
Mr. Buzaianu is also demanding a colossal sum of US$100million from the Zambian government for allegedly defamatory remarks made by President Michael Sata against him.
Speaking on Wednesday through his appointed lawyers, Central Chambers, Mr. Sakwiba Sikota stated that his client was offended by the remarks made by President Sata and the reports carried by all the media in Zambia.
In 2007, the DEC seized 119kg of Gold worth over US$7million at the Lusaka International Airport from two Zimbabwean nationals who tried to evade sanctions against Zimbabwe and tried re-export the gold through Zambia.
The Taskforce investigating corruption allegations against the regime of President Rupiah Banda, summoned former DEC Chief, Aaron Zulu and Likolo Ndalamei, former Secretary to Treasury who is alleged to have authorised the sale in July 2011, of the forfeited gold and was requested to account for the proceeds amounting to US $4m (K19Billion).
Proceeds from the sale were sent by wire transfer from Switzerland through Barclays Bank to Bank of Zambia.
Of the K19billion received only K10billion remains in the BOZ account. The team is trying to establish how the K9billion sent to the DEC accounts was used.
The team also summoned former Attorney General, Abyud Shonga who offered legal counsel on the disposal of the gold, issued letters of sale and removal certificates.
DEC officials also summoned President Banda’s press aide, Dickson Jere to help with the investigations.
Speaking at a swearing-in ceremony, at State House, Mr. Sata disclosed that Buzaianu was a recent guest of former president Rupiah Banda.

The best thing to do is to apologize to Dr. Bozaianu if at all the allegations leveled against him are not true, as you know the new gvt is in a hurry to fight corruption that was in the previous gvt, any one closer or befriends RB is suspicious until proven innocent. I am sure the Dr. will bare with us most of the Zambian people more especial those living in rural areas are living in an told abject poverty due to the last regime which was so corrupt, the new gvt is trying to put things in order by fighting corruption. If indeed he was not involved and that as a nation we wrongly accused him and if he wins the case then it will be a great loss to our nation.
Because, to a nation like Zambia whose budget is less than K20 trilion, giving away $100 milion which is K1/2 trilion is totally un called for and unacceptable.
