REPUBLICAN President Michael Sata has instructed the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Emmanuel Chenda to meet all stakeholders in the wheat industry to preven the hike in bread price.
President Sata says plans to hike the price of bread by K500 are unjustified.
“The plans to increase the price of bread will largely hurt the poor. The poor consumer bears the blunt of such hikes which are not justified,” Sata said.
President Sata says his government will do everything possible to curb exploitation and maintain the price of bread, even if it means authorizing the importation of wheat into the country.
“We, therefore urge all stakeholders in the wheat value chain to exhaust consultations amongst themselves before taking positions that could undermine consumer interest and that of the industry itself in the long-run,” The president advises.
Mr Sata says government will not be blackmailed by any stakeholder in the food chain of essential commodities.
Government is currently in dialogue with the Zambia National Farmers Union (ZNFU) and the Bakers Association of Zambia regarding measures meant to eliminate unnecessary cost elements so that the wheat industry becomes more competitive.
The President expects the bakers association and wheat farmers to reach a reasonable consensus that does not only serve their interests, but more importantly, the consumer.
You are a great man Mr president, pliz keep it up!
Thts the spirit keep it up his excellence
Beware of the black sheep
How should someone onestly be talking of increasing food stuff when all micro and macro econimic trends are indicating that there has to be a general reduction in all consumable products. The people in that ka commitee trying to abuse zambians should know that by now everything is in the open. You shuold first bring out points backed by tangible emanating from a wider research group of experts. You cant just work up and say that we are increasing the price of bread by K500 . are you aware that the proposed inceament is re[resenting a 10 percent putting the current price of break at K5,000. Please dont provoke the government .
ee fipuba they think they are in mmd> no its sata hands on work… ee import flour we see what these bakers will do
What are you trying to say here???? try to be logical just for my sake,, i can’t understand your point… I guess you are not in zambia..
bread should not make one sweat to buy it. it must be affordable by a common man
good sprit mr president. The didnt reduce when fuel was reduced but rhey only want increase whats wrong with these bakers?
Electricity tariffs are high, it’s what all businesses use not just fuel so the government should reduce the tariffs and we’ll see food prices going down.
what else do people want in a president
Look at the real president who cares about the least in zed. Awe Mwandi Chilufya wesu bebe. Bauze sure bread is something that every one should afford. Zambia is now in the hands of a true Zambian. Thanks Mr President.
ZAMBIANS ARE THE MOST STUPID PEOPLE IN THE WORLD. HOW CAN A PRESIDENT WASTE HIS TIME TALKING ABOUT BREAD PRICE. ISNT THERE SOMEONE QUALIFIED FOR THAT JOB. PLEASE TALK ABOUT DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM THE STEPS TAKEN TO REDUCE POVERTY AND CREATE EMPLOYMENT. THE ROAD MAP TOWARD FREE EDUCATION AND GOOD HEALTH FOR ALL ZAMBIANS. STOP BEING STUPID FANATICS TO JUST COMMENT IN FAVOR OF SOMEONE DISTRUCTING YOU.
uli cipuma you sould think before you talk.he is directing mininster in charge and other stake holders. what does it mean??????? no medulla oblangata??????
Thanks ba kalamba. You have just said the truth. It is time that we open our eyes. In fact 99% of the people in our country do not even have access to the internet or TV so why his he lying to himself? Thanks real Zambian we need only 10 people like you to understand that SATA RIGGED THE ELECTIONS.
Bakateka who were you support to win the elections, pliz just nurse your agon silently.
ubupuba, how could PF have rigged the elections you shallow minded person?
Viva President Sata. Our President has the drive to transform this country but we should NOT leave everything to him to intervene. He has the ministers in various institutions to aid him.look at the price increase in CEMENT in parts of Zambia. In Solwezi,a 50kg bag is fetching K82,000.00.Dont wait 4 SATA to say he is allegic to sudden price increases for u to act.Fuel was reduced so other items prices have to be reduced.
think and act now!
Bravo Mr. President! But your Minister of Commerce should not have waited for you to speak out for the people.
Food is a very important basic need & govt should ensure that food is a4dble.
Fuel is expensive bcoz ore is impoted. BUT WHY IS CEMENT AND ELECTRICITY EXPENSIVE?
Is The quary for cement imported by Larfarge? or is the water that runs the turbines imported by Zesco?
Size, just wait a few days. Your questions will be answered. Zesco was a mercenary for MMD but now things have started coming to normal. I was personally paying not less than K350,000.00 electricity bill for a residential house, however, a miracle has happened this month the bill came out at K98, 000.00. More money in my pockets now. This clears show that ZESCO was being used to over charge us in order to fundraise for the MMD campaigns.
With the increase in bread prices, iam in support with HE MC. The increase is unjustifyable because farmers still have alot of undelivered wheat in their sheds, of which, if millers can buy them, then the price of flour will reduce, hence, reduce the price for bread instead of increasing.
Am on the ground with farmers in Mkushi farm block and visited some of them recently.
The agriculture minister should move in quickly.
REAL ZAMBIA ULIMUKOPO SANA, U AR A CADRE WHOM WE SHOULD NT WASTE TIME OF EVEN ANSWERIN TO YO — USELESS MESSAGE. BE THANKFUL
With this altitude you will see shortages of goods soon. Back to price controls. They actually hurt the ones you intend to help. watch this space.
Zambians will soon be crying for MMD and UPND soon.
Ba President, some businessmen are taking us for granted in the name of free market. Its time you came up with some parastatal shops to check out those who would like to frastrate your programmes and allow consumers to buy things at the right price. In that way, you are also going to create employment and put money in almost every hardworker’s pocket. Please Mr President do just that as a means of controlling prices of some goods and commodities since price control cannot even be effected by the Commerce Minister in a libralised economy. Otherwise thank you for your concern and observation. It shows that you are alert and ready to protect everyone’s interest. Bravo!
REAL ZAMBIAN AND MMD.YOU ARE REAL BAFOONS,WHO CAN REMEMBER MMD OR UPND.NGATAPABA IFYO MWAISHIBA MULEIKALA FYE BAKAPOLI
The poor in Zambia hardly eat bread. Talk about the number of meals Zambians have in a day and you’ll realize that bread is almost a luxury in this so-called middle income country.
Thank you Mr. President. Almost everyone in Zambia has tasted bread, no matter how poor. Bread/Buns is a must for our hard-working gentlemen, the labourers, and its a snack for school going children, even street kids eat bread/buns as their meal – kanshi ba C/pilo please don’t lie, every poor Zambian eats bread so the price matters. Sometimes it takes a father to discipline the children in a home instead of the elder brothers or sisters – let our President talk about anything he feels can help us, its in order.
A man who was travelling from Harare going to Bindura died before arrival after boarding a Toyota Ipsum at the intersection of Sam Nujoma (formerly 2nd Street Extension) and Hebert Chitepo in Harare. He died because “he did not have intestines anymore” for they had been eaten by the owner of this car as they were travelling.
Another school girl who was learning in Harare and staying in Marondera is being said to have boarded a Mercedes Benz and in that car were two people, a man and a woman. As they were travelling, this car is said to have stopped at some butchery thats about 15 km from Marondera, the owners of the car bought “matumbu nemaguru emombe” (beef offals) and carried on with their journey.
The girl got the shock of her life when she saw these two people eating that raw meat, that had not been cleaned. Upon arrival to Marondera, she got off the car. When she told her mother about this shocking detail, thats when she got sick and was rushed to a private clinic in Marondera – where she was pronounced dead upon arrival. A postmortem revealed that her intestines were missing.
In another incident similar to these ones, A man boarded a private car in Chitungwiza and he was going to Hwedza. This car had a female driver. After travelling for some few kilometers, when they got to Seke, the woman stopped the car, opened the boot and got some rice that had “matumbu mambishi” (raw beef offals), and she started eating as they were travelling. When they reached the junction of Seke road and Mutare Road, this man requested for recess, he got into one of the shops that operate there, and told what had happened to one of the shop attendants and begged the shop attendants to hide him so as to avoid this woman. After some while, the woman is said to have come into the shop and asked the shop attendant if they had seen this man, but she was told they had not seen anyone like that. She went back, started her car and drove away. The shop attendants then went to the room where they had hidden this man, only to find him dead. After a postmortem, it was found that his intestines were missing.
Street word throughout the City of Harare has it that quite a number of people have experienced this type of death. Another woman died after boarding a car that was coming from Glen View, going to Mbare. Another one died after boarding a private car along Robert Mugabe way, that was going to Mabvuku. In a similar scenario, another man is also said to have died before reaching Chegutu after encountering this tragedy.
Whats surprising is that the intestines of all these people were eaten whilst they were still alive. This tragedy is new to Zimbabwe, but its believed to have been taking place for quite some time now. Here are some facts about this tragedy:
* Your intestines are eaten whilst you are alive
* When you see them eating raw meat, they will be eating your intestines
* This is believed to enrich them, somehow.
* If ever you see it then you wont survive
* A postmortem will reveal that your intestines are missing.
SO PLEASE BEWARE OF THESE PRIVATE CARS WHEN TRAVELLIN
Emmanuel Chenda is not doing his job he needs to be replaced.
I dont know Y we were taking so long (47 yrs) to bring in a president like this man. This is a president of the people. Thanks ba president ala muletulangulukako fwe bapina.
REAL ZAMBIAN AND BAKATEKA WHY DONT YOU JUST KEEP QUITE IF YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT.HE HAS INSTRUCTED THE MINISTER OF AGRICULTURE AND LIVESTOCK TO MEET STAKE HOLDERS AND FIND A SOLUTION. SO WHEN U SAY IS’NT THERE SOMEONE QUALIFIED FOR THE JOB WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?
WHY DONT YOU JUST KEEP QUITE IF YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT(BAKATEKA AND REAL ZAMBIAN).HE HAS INSTRUCTED THE MINISTER OF AGRICULTURE AND LIVESTOCK TO MEET STAKE HOLDERS AND FIND A SOLUTION. SO WHEN U SAY IS’NT THERE SOMEONE QUALIFIED FOR THE JOB WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?
These organizations made up by people that are heartless are all the same. If some Zambian people even today can make living on a one meal a day, and that meat is bread alone where do you think you are taking them? Don’t work like ZAWA where an accident happened 5 days ago at Lion Camp in South Luangwa National Park ,ZAWA is quiet because a Guide who caused that accident is a white. Act the same way you do when a black guide is involved in such. We are fully informed that it was total negligence and unprofessional of Sam, the white guide. Baka teka i think its time that when white man and a black man are doing the same job, should be getting same salaries. Because the accidents here that tarnish professionalism and skill that the local and true Zambian guides have in south luangwa, are whites that go away with colossal moneys under the table. This is the voice of the people.
FOOLISH THEY WANT TO FRASTRATE GOVERNMENT.WHY AN INCREASE ON BREAD WHEN FUEL IS REDUCING.THE COST OF DOING BUSINESS IS EXPECTED TO BE LOW.RUBISH. BRAVO MR PRESIDENT 4 PROTECTING YOUR PIPO.
We really thank the President for the work is doing but my economic advice is that let the economy or prices of goods and services be controlled or driven by the laws of demand and supply period. Remember fellow Zambians this is a capitalist state and not a socialist state. As a capitalist state the role of the govt is to create an enabling environment like attracting investors or maitaning condusive polical environment etc for the economy to grow, and not the state to control prices for goods and services.
Mr president u really have the heart for us zambians may god bless u.those remembering mmd and upnd are atrocious these pipo wont rule this country ifyabupuba no more in zambia.pf for life!
