ZAMBEZI Airline says it has learnt with shock government’s decision to suspend its Air operating certificate.
Government over the weekend suspended Zambezi Airlines operator certificate citing serious safety concerns.
Ministry of Transport, Works, Supply and Communication Permanent Secretary Dominic Sichinga who announced the suspension says that government will soon institute a tribunal to make inquiries on the airlines operations.
But Zambezi Airlines Chairman, Maurice Jangulo says the Airline adheres to safety and aviation regulations relating to aircraft maintenance.
Dr Jangulo says all its aircrafts are maintained and certified by a South Africa, company, Jetworx.
Dr Jangulo says the airline is working round the clock to ensure that its licence is re- installed.
He was speaking to ZNBC News in Lusaka on Sunday.
Efforts to get a comment from Mr Sichinga to react to Zambezi Airlines statement failed as his phone was unreachable by press time.

Zential, Zambezi airlines has had passengers stranded in Zambia for over a day, and its flight schedules are 22 hours behind. They booked passengers and sold tickets but failed to honour the bookings because they could not outsource a bigger plane to handle their bookings as their fleet for regional rooutes was down. Does that help? Issue is this is not the first time its happenning, ZA has been having problems keeping time and schedules, and other issues also cropped in like them not paying ground handling fees, etc amounting to over US2 million. I hope this helps you start to follow the thread.

For those that dnt knw. It was suspended bcoz the airline has failed to meet minimum safety requirements, their airlines have not be serviced regularly, delays in the service the list goes on but the first one is more critical. For those that use the airline the evidence is there. There is really nothing political.

This is a sad development in aviation industry especially at a time such as this when we want our economy to expand in all sectors so that unemployment could be a thing of the past and revenue collection base for the govt is broadened. Therefore,I would be huppy if the govt could have rehearsed with the zambezi air line administration and give necessary support in term of finances and advice. If the govt want to open an air line they can do so without closing another airline company.I personally, would not like to see companies in sectors like this one, where you don’t have many people willing to invest in, closing down.Development in this sector means having more companies in aviation industry. So my advice to the govt is to revise its decision on the closing of the company.

Guys listen, there’s nothing political bout zambezi, Dr jangulo is jus pretending. Zambezi has alot of problems, even failing to pay jet fuel to bp, failing to pay catering companies. All there three planes are down, they had to go to s.a. and lease a plane, as we speak, they only have this plane which has to fly to joburg in the morning, come back n go to harder, come back n go to lubumbashi, come back n go to dareslamu. Now the trick part is under the lease of planes, the plane comes with its own pilots n crew, these pipo have maximum no. of hours to fly per day which is not enough to cover all these routes, besides this plane has had mid air engine failures, last Tuesday n Friday nights as it was going to joburg and had to come back! Passengers are owaz left to fend 4 themselves, no accommodation, no food etc!

It angers me that Zambezi will make such falls claims about ther planes when they have kept so many of us stranded at airports and unil this day have failed to give out refunds. Their planes are all in the workshop, the last one that was in operation caught fire during take-off last week and was grounded indefinitely. Basically anyone who had bought a ticket with Zambezi was stuck with no explanation….ANY frequent flyer incl their own staff knew it was only a matter of time before it went under. So those of u calling this political – get your facts right!

kakooka, read the threads up, its not about professional basis, its more serious than that. Engines failing in mid air is not a joke, leasing one plane to service the whole regional routes is getting 100 people on a bangie jumping rope that is meant for ONE person, having all fleets grounded and being 22 hours behind schedule is not business. In fact, Zambian airways was better because its fleet was newer and kept running better than this, they only ahd a huge debt to NACL, which Zambezi also has…

I have told these guys many times but you know excitment for big things is difficult to control when all that matters to some1 is to appear big to the world. we want to have a zambian owned airline but investers have to be present to run the businesses. The proprietor hardly has time to manage the business all he wants to hear is we have made so much money, we are bigeeee. Thats not right!!!! This Italian way of doing business does not work for Zambia, the cost of doing business is high. In short, this is purely management failure. Someone was right to say there was no going concern in the run of the business, it could close up any minute and so fast. May the tribunal that is being set invite me so that i can re-echo my advise to PHD Jangulo. I want to tell him that he must be present to see things happen….this ka PA ka mudala fro SA nika gold digger sikaziba vilivonse, Ka Nataleon. its also time to show respect for the Zambian worker, if you let them down you go down. i repeat, the failure of former Zambezi airlines, now called ‘Zambezi landlines’ is purely Management failure

Oh i see, Doc is a very intelligent Man gentlemen, but am thinking also that he has not directly gotten involved in the hands on running of the airlines. he was doing it the remote control way. This was a start up business and it demanded his physical involvement. The man is sharp and very bright but used wrong approach, became confortable before things begun to work out. He should gave also gotten a well qualified PA not aba amai balibe ulemu, mtima kuipa monga malukula ba Natase. Zambezi had a bright future, if at fall then it fall is causal, a result of neglect and took confort at the time the airline needed much attention.

There are two major factors that leads to a business to collapse…..1st one lack of adequate financing, 2ng one is poor management of the available resources, and maybe thirdly, overinvesting. Now which of the two is the problem with Zambezi, is it lack of funding or poor management? if it is lack of funding, let the tribunal that is being set look into helping the airline, we need zambezi come on guys lets be proud of zambian investers. if its management then Dr. Jangulo must do a complete overhaul. It can be true true that the man is not available to oversee the business, i mean this is a start-up business so how can the man be managing the business remotely. this is apparent in his argument that the airline complies with all sefaty regulation which is not true, this is all because the man is not there to see all these things as they happen. He should also get a well qualified PA. It also shows that his management stance is weak, how does he employ a PA who has no professional qualifications, a mere hair dresser from SA. why!!!! because of the skin!!! you can see that this can be a starting point to audit the management weaknesses of Zambezi and the proprietor himself. and can Zambians knw how this Hair Dresser found herself as an expertriate in zambia when there are well qualified young men and women, and how on earth can Immigration allow this nonse. Ba Sata here is another corruption item by the former government, it not only the chinese as you thought ba SATA. Now Zambezi should wake up and address their management issues, i can see that there is a major weakness in management. sometimes money is not a problem because debts and financial requirements can be negotitated therefore is also my conclusion that there is a big weakness in management starting with the owner, its proven by his choice of a PA, one or that yellow skin is nothing or that yappy yappy mouth!!!! the problem is zambians merely listens to whites even when what they say does not make sense…. We want you back in the air ba Zambezi but please clean up!!!!
UNZA - Siniyopa Banda
November 1, 2011 at 5:55 pm
Guys, there is somthing sinister about PA to Chairman Zambezi airlines and Myiombo fertiliser, and concerns that the fall of Zambezi airlines is a management issue. Can we safely say negligence, since the issue at hand is one that has to do with safety of people that used zambezi airlines? if we can move a bit away from management and augument the subject to Negligence. Because am meant to believe there is serious management failure in zambezi but to an extent that management failure amounts to negligence which put the lives of the many people that used the service to great risk and we want on a serious note the board of Zambezi to apologise to the nation beacuse, we can now say, it was by the grace of God that in their negligence acts no lives were lost. in as much as we would want to see them back on the market, they owe the public an explanation. away from that, the poeple that are saying the PA to Mr. Jangulo is a South African National who is a Hair Dresser by proffession need to provide evidence because this is serious and an insult to the zambian professionals. How can a business domiciled in zambia were there are graduates loaming in streats bring a mere hair dresser, and for real how did Immigration grant her permits???? Can the nation be enlightened because this might be another corrupt move, corrutpion is in many ways and all it does at all times is to deprive the innocent. whoever this hair dresser is, it is believed that she was once deported on racism grounds, how yet again did she come back. who is behind all this??? Is this an indication that Zambezi airlines is not sure what they want? some of these petty issues like employing a hair dresser as a PA can be a sign of great weakness in great pipo that can lead to their dreadfall. mr. Jangulo ba boss dont be like MMD who did not listen and now they are out, this is your business but in the public interest so listen, we are just helping you. and to you immigration officers we know you are reading these stories can you look into your files and tell the Nation on what grounds this PA of Dr. Jangulo was given entrance and permits to work in zambia????? and how she came back after she was deported? do that before fire catches up you because this is another form of corruption, Mr. Sata you are also reading this, dont say you never saw it, there is corruption in immigration, take your big broom there and sweep the corrupt fellow out. such things should be allowed, let zambia be governed by law that is feared and by all

Dear all,
When we face problems, let us all find solutions.
By attacking each other will mean cowards. Let us find a way forward. We should learn to support each other as the old man KK mentioned during his time that ” ONE ZAMBIA!!! ONE NATION!!!!!, even if we work with foregners, we should accomodate them, there are also some Zambians who are out there working. Our late president Fredrick Chiluba also gave us a better side by saying ZAMBIA IA A CHRISTIAN NATION.
So ladies and gentlemen or brothers and Sisters, let us pray together and put hatred aside so that we could revive our airline industry.
God’s blessings. Thank you.

Ukomya ma Zambian’s; what serious safety issues have arisen in the company when the plane that had a problem is the plane that the departments of civil aviation in both zambia and South Africa certified fit and i can safely presume that since Zambezi really wanted to provide aircraft for its passengers, it had to meet the cost.
The delayed schedules that you are all raising here are very unfounded; British airways was on the ground on KK airport for about two days without any back up aircraft and you the same Zambians that are condeming Zambezi were inconvienienced and yet you never bucked like you are doing right now. The same can be said about South African Airways; Kenyan Airways; Namibian Airways and all these others. I’m sure this is just a case of inferiority complex hiting us right in the head.
If you have really flawn on ZJ flight you will tell me that you were treated like a human being unlike the xenorphobic treatment you get from South African Airways. You pay almost twice less than what you pay on other airlines flying on ZJ and you are can make comments un founded as these;
Dear Zambians its time we started encouraging local entreprenuers if we want to see real development in this country. Civil Aviation should have outlined whatever safety concerns they had against ZJ unlike acting like politically motivated danda heads; that wasnt professional. And instead of challenging the ZJ’s Chairman with proof that they had raised concerns with the comapny in accordance with the relevant procedure’s; they issue mob psychologically tailored statements coined as serious safety issues; very funny! DCA needs an over haul if you will ever have a successful airline in Zambia. Respond to me with facts; ukomya yai (not your inferiority complex)…!

I agree with you 100 %! I cannot understand this hush decision to ground Zambezi Airline. I used this airline to and from Zambia (from Cape Town) and was happy with the service. The only problem I had was the dirty seats! I didn’t mind the 3hours delay on my return trip as that happens all the time with any other airline. People must not react like primary school kids without justified reasoning. Having said that, we cannot put the risk of any human being at risk because we want to promote and support “local entrepreneurs “. I am an African born in South Africa and will support anyone irrespective of their nationality.

ZAMBEZI SHOULD JUST ASK ZAMBIANS WORKING OVERSEAS WITH VAST EXPERIENCE TO COME BACK HOME ON CONTRACTS AND IMPROVE THE MAINTENANCE SIDE OF THIS AND NOT THESE ZASTI TRAINED ENGINEERS.
