STOP Infamous JERABOS, Police ORDERED

MINISTER of Home Affairs Kennedy Sakeni has directed the police to conquer the notorious ‘Jerabo’ criminal gangs on the Copperbelt because they are a nuisance to society.

And Mr Sakeni has said he does not give orders to police to unfairly pursue political foes on suspected corruption matters.

The minister was speaking yesterday at Kamfinsa Mobile Police Unit in Kitwe when he addressed police officers.

This was after he toured Riverside Police Station, Kamfinsa Mobile Unit and the department of national registration boma office in Kitwe where he found challenges ranging from a lack of housing and office accommodation to lack of transport.

Mr Sakeni said Zambia was headed for doom if the Jerabos were left to carry on with their criminal activities.

He said he had heard stories of organised crime on the Copperbelt and Kitwe in particular where the gangs were breaking the law with impunity.

“I am directing you the police to meet with full force of the law this kind of organised gangs of people who are breaking the law with impunity,” he said.

Mr Sakeni said nobody was above the law and that the police should not apply it selectively to target only those without money.

He said he would not condone police officers who would be found getting onto payrolls of criminals and failing to protect innocent citizens.

Mr Sakeni said he was particularly disturbed with conduct of the police in Kalulushi where seized cobalt sometimes went missing at the police station.

He was also disappointed with the police failure to expedite the prosecution of a man accused of practising bestiality.

The minister said the Government’s instructions were clear and any officer not ready to work professionally should quit.

Mr Sakeni directed the police command in the district to bring to book officers involved in the disappearance of cobalt at Kalulushi Police Station and to investigate the bestiality case expeditiously.

And Mr Sakeni said the Government would next year find resources to procure necessary tools to quell riots and other mass protests.

He admitted that the Government’s failure to buy tools such as rubber bullets had led to the police using live ammunition.

Mr Sakeni said the advent of plural politics had been associated with the increase in unruly behaviour and Zambia was no exception.

And speaking after he addressed senior provincial police officers in Ndola, Mr Sakeni said he had never instructed the police to prosecute MMD leaders who were in the former government for corruption.

He said he did not have the time to instruct the police to pursue specific individuals but the police were acting on suspicion of wrong doing.

“It is the duty of the police to investigate anyone they suspect to have committed a crime, there is no way they should cry foul over this,” Mr Sakeni said.

On KK’s small credit side, one thing he did well was to stamp out crime. He ordered the police to pursue and eradicate criminals on the copperbelt. The police did well in this regard. It’s so sad that the current crop of leadership is so crime friendly that I suspect some police officers might actually be these punks, these Jerabos.

Its about time sanity is brought back into Kitwe
How can you have thieves look as if they are the ones with the business acumen that others don’t have?…Women following them and ending up raped, with AIDS and then afterwards they start looking for decent men to marry them, what a deadly web.

Jaraboas must be caged, people know all of them because they dont hide there identity, however they can not be arrested just for having the Tag of Jaraboa, a crime must be attached.

Bwana Minister Ba Sakeni and Ba IG Malama please put up the heat, corruption should not become something to envy in our country. The new fashion of our law enforcers, building houses, owning minibuses, taxis. Nothing wrong to own all these in an honest manner, but bribary in the security wings has become like competition. Even wives and children brag about it. Roadblocks ABASH we are not at war, ITS A CONDUIT TO CORRUPTION

you guys you all talking out of fantasy.if you realy know who jerabos are then you should be giving very different info.first of all they are rooted in CB which means they rule CB.if only the minister had his office in CB that is when he can feel them.they are really a stambling block to society but it is not easy to just end them at once cause officers get much better salaries from them than from government.if the minister start talking about improving the cops salaries then it will be a good start to unroot them but with the same orders without weight,it will just be a talky talky show and they will even grow stronger.ask the kitwes about GUNHASI the top jerabo and see how much zambia he rules without him known.in short JERABOS will be there as long as the cops still get better salaries from them.what is k2.5m to k20m from jerabos.think about it.
