The Roman Catholic church in the Netherlands was shamed on Friday when a comprehensive investigation of sexual abuse of children by clergy over 40 years found one in five vulnerable children had been molested.
An 1,100-page report from a commission led by a former education minister and Christian Democrat leader said it could identify 800 Catholic clergy and other church employees guilt of sexually abusing children in the 40 years from 1945 and that more than 100 perpetrator were still alive.
Children in institutional care, regardless of religious affiliation, in the Netherlands were at substantial risk of being abused during the period, the molestation rate – 20% –being twice that of elsewhere.
The investigation led by Wim Deetman concluded that several tens of thousands of children had suffered sexual molestation.
With the Catholic church embroiled in child abuse scandals from Ireland to Austria and lay Catholics mobilising against the Vatican for root-and-branch reform of canon law to end celibacy in the priesthood and facilitate female ordination, the Dutch report was the latest damning verdict of serial abuse accompanied by persistent cover-ups.
The Catholic Church of the Netherlands is currently experiencing a comparable inundation, and this time it can no longer count on its little boys to do their duty.
While Catholics form only a minority of 27% in the large secular Netherlands, it appears that their institutions are responsible for a high proportion of the country’s sexual abuse. A new report released today shows an appalling history of sodomy and rape at the hands of priests and Church employees since the Second World War.
Catholic sex scandals have been sweeping the world like a wildfire for years.
THE HAGUE, Netherlands –
Thousands of children suffered
sexual abuse in Dutch Catholic
institutions, and church officials
failed to adequately address
the abuse or help the victims,
according to a long-awaited
investigation released Friday.
The report by the an
independent commission said
Catholic officials failed to
tackle the widespread abuse in
an attempt to prevent scandals.
The suspected number of abuse
victims who spent some of their
youth in church institutions
likely lies somewhere between
10,000 and 20,000, according to
a summary of the report
investigating allegations of
abuse dating back to 1945. …
Bert Smeets, an abuse victim
who attended the presentation
of the report, said it did not go
far enough in investigating and
outlining in precise detail
exactly what happened.
“What was happening was sexual
abuse, violence, spiritual terror,
and that should have been
investigated,” Smeets told The
Associated Press. “It remains
vague. All sorts of things
happened but nobody knows
exactly what or by whom. This
way they avoid responsibility.”

Let us make the world a better place, let us get rid of religion. Which war was fought and religion was not involved¿? Blessing the army on both sides of the war front. Can we concieve of a greater incongruity than for a Christian to go from his closet, where he has been praying for his enemies, and command his troops to plunge the weapons of death with fiend like fury into the hearts of those very enemies? In one case he happily resembles his dying master, but whom does he resemble in the other?

WHY SHOULD THEY PRETEND TO GO AGAINST NATURE THAT THEY CAN LIVE WITHOUT MARRYING. LET THEM MARRY. LET THEM NOT SUPPRESS THE NATURAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE BODY. THATS WHY GOD CREATED MARRIAGE. IT WOULDNT BE A BAD IDEA FOR PRIESTS TO MARRY COZ WE SHALL REDUCE SOME OF THESE SEX SCANDALS.

The catholic faith is bigger than its ailling priests and members. That is why the Church has been able to stand for more than 2000 yrs despite many trials and temptations. These scandals are just one of the many trying moments the Catholic faith has endured. It shall continue to stand coz it built on the rock and Christ is its Head.

Take courage, dear friends. The insults that you have showered are part of the general sin and may stand against us at the end of time.No one in this world is without blame.Otherwise, if there is one, then there is no need for God’s salvation.Priesthood is a ministry instituted by Christ. You may hate the priest, but the ministry of priesthood will never die becoz of its’origin:the living Christ. Also, there are many priests who are spending their lives, in primary missions, exposed to all kinds of dangers, sickness and disease, sometimes without food and water.Only God knows these hidden people.Be careful in your words. You may find yourself fighting against God.

One thing I know for sure is that the efficacy of the secrament of priesthood does not depend on the holiness of a priest but on the one who instituted it and made it holy. The sacrament was first instituted and sanctified holy by Jesus Christ. There are some priests (Charismatics) who are so given to working for God. It’s fallacious to say all priests are the same

Marrying is not the answer. It is someone’s mindset.I have read widely even here in Zambia where married pastors and those pastors who call themselves missionaries, leave their wives to go and abuse children. Do you remember that Opharnage by a certain protestant missionary that was closed by the government in Kitwe a couple of years ago? God calls people to serve him. Unfortunately some of them commit such attrocities that have injured the reputation of our Church.
We believe that the Church is holy although some of its members and ministers are not so the mistake of a few does not make the Church unholy. The devil is at work in all churches with no exception. Some pastors abuse children, some make counterfeit dollars, some are found with a cachet of guns (used by armed robbers)some are involved in satanism, some are into adultery. Some protestant churches are even ordaining homosexuals and even making them bishops, and so on. When such is reported by the media, it is reported as a by the way thing because these Churches are small but for the Catholic Church being the largest and first Christian Church in the world it is blown in big bold letters. Nothing wrong with that but a sin is a sin whether committed by Catholic priest or a pastor.
The Church is not sitting idle and many times our popes have openly talked about these things and taking steps to correct them. That is why when you talk of such things you mostely talk of a period of a century or so. I am sure the problen is greatly reduced now than it was before, say the 1950′s because something is being done. This problem will not be solved by allowing priets to marry because even married pastors leave their wives to commit similar attrocities.
The people who commit such whether they are Catholic priests or protestant pastors or even ordinary laypersons need our prayers for them to change.

I dont believe in ending a long tradition just for the sake of a few ****** priests. I have met very good disciplined priests in Zambia and I say these still hold the Church together. If all priests were as useless as this artical portrays them, we wouldnt have those large masses of people going to church on sunday. People support ur priests they are protected by God. There human errors are nothing as according to the duty they have. I dont look at them as angels but as people like me who are prone to sin. Jesus said do not judge others but infact embrace those we term as sinners. I love Catholic Priests and I always pray for them that God will shade light on them in their daily life.

no doubt logic as a discipline should be introduced in high schools to avoid such kind of fallacious statements.”Some ophans u pretnd 2 luk afta are yo children we knw dat.en sme nuns hv bin mssng periods how?, obviously u do bang each other.”,”may god b with u en oso with u f***g prists. catholic priests hav diety secreats.dey hav kids en tend 2 b stret kids, dey ar de reson y mst mareges ar nt stbl. balitemwa ukunyenga bafik**** hhahh kuti na batukana! prists sucks same as zim prophets! y cnt u jst mary bavikalaa vaupuba! shame b wit u fukers.” it is so heartbreakin that pipo can make such kind of statements because i expect, in this present age and generation, people to make distinction between particular and general experiences and make not only sound bt valid judgements and not make haste judgments and condemn the ministry of priesthood.watch ur illogical reasoning for those who are condemin the order of priesthood.it is because of people like u, whose minds are saturated by idols of the mind that zambia is being rated as one of the least when it comes to the system of education because of such kind of illogical judgements.not all priests are envolved in such kind of immoral behavious.

This has been going on for years. I wonder how many African Boys and Girls have been molested by these Men of God ever since they came to Africa. You can just imagine how some Africans look at the white man as God-so what chance has the little poor African Child has when this man of God tells them to bend over…They should be an African enquiry over the Catholic Church. What do you think guys?

The sins of one man should not affect other prists who are called by God and working very well. I know in every church the devil has planted people to bring down the church but we shall not fall has long as Jesus is our foundation. Some of the Prists are agents of the devil being used in the name of being prists to decieve people and descourage people from praying, But i for one will never foresake my church. Jesus already told us to be aware of wolfs in sheeps’ cloths. So you people just be care on how you comment, because you may end up sinning by judging others.Even married people still cheat on their partners, so i for one dont see how prists getting married will solve this problem.
