Lusaka’s FINDECO house, the country’s tallest building, has for the sixth day continued to operate without water.
Lusaka Water and sewerage on Thursday last week cut off water supply from the country’s tallest building after failure by National Housing Authority failed to settle the water bill.
A National Housing Authority employee has told that the water utility company was left with no option but to cut water supply to the country’s tallest building when they came through on Thursday last week in an attempt to recover what is owed to them.
The employee who spoke on condition of anonymity accused NHA management of being selfish and irresponsible saying there is no way that a building such as FINDECO can operate with no water because it houses a lot of companies and added that a disease outbreak would quickly spread.
He added that the tallest building also almost had its electricity supply cut off last week because of suspected failure to settle the bills.
He wondered where all the money that NHA realizes from rentals at FINDECO goes to because there has been no tenant that is left alone for failure to settle rentals adding that many tenants have had their property auctioned off for failing to pay rentals.
A check revealed that the building still has no water supply as a pungent smell engulfed the building thereby posing a risk of cholera outbreak.

Sounds disgusting. People should look for alternative office space. Obviously, NHA can’t assure their health and safety.

The PF government should consider cleaning the toilets instead of sending all their members to parade mechandize as street venders. There are so many venders who have come from city market now lining up streets. We all know where these PF members go to answer the call of nature. Let us not encourage lawlessness please.

The situation is the same with Chachacha House, as the toilets on the first floor stink (both male and female) and if nothing is done soon, there could be an outbreak of Cholera or something worse unless the Building Society does something urgently!!!

Ba PF, get your heads examined, its not NHA, PF has allowed a large inflow of marketeers in town, roads are now choked & impassable and all these people carry a large combined tonage potencial faeces. NHA is not mandated to clean or prevent social & toilet soiling. This is squarely Kambwili management style. Don’t try to be clever!

@Kwame, did the PF government incurr that bill or did it accumulate during the previous gvt? What have vendors got to do with the water bills? They probably use the toilets, not syphone the water. I think the managers of these building shouls consider charging for the use of the toilets or giving the rightful users individual keys so that they are locked all the time. Let NHA pay what they owe, LWSC also needs their income…

Let us change the way we are thinking (mind set) we should all have a sense of responsibility, lets us love our country by throwing garbages in designated places not anywhere. even at home you don’t just go into the toilet when there is no water. Let us learn to be responsible citizens please.

Naturally Zambians are very dirty people otherwise the public health department should have moved in by now and closed the building. But then what do you expect from a country full of kaponyas and ruled by kaponyas. They love wallowing in filth like pigs.

What a disgrace! Here’s a Housing Authority that is “National”, but cannot look after Lusaka’s landmark building. What is Sata thinking about Mpondela? Is this not the same company whose negligence led to a passenger lift locking up someone beteeen floors? How else should incompetence manifest itself?

This building should have been demolished a long time ago: In the 80s to be precise. I have been to buildings abroad and what strikes me is the airy and spacial nature of very tall buildings. When I look at this choking design I wonder where the architect came from. Those lifts are so confining and then the urinators have made the ground floor a homeground for Ammonia. Please implode this building

Wanu Ngwee
January 3, 2012 at 10:44 pm
@ADEN; Africa is like this because we did’nt understand why Europeans and other westerners were building sky scrappers. We thought it was the meaning of development yet they their circumstances compelled them to be making the most of whatever little land they’d been left with. And with so much of our land lying empty, we failed to spread our buildings on the ground but opted to go up, even not knowing how we would sustain the supply of water to the top or maintain the lifts!! SAD, IS’NT IT?

Typical! Findeco house is being run by NHA and so this institution should do something about the deteriorated conditions at their building. The problem with zambian brand of management is that effectiveness is measured in terms of how long one is glued on the office chair from 08hrs to 17hrs. Mpondela and his lieutenants are not doing what they are supposed to: that is, visit the buildings under their care and see things as they are. Zambia has become too politicised at the expense of doing a good day’s job. LET USB CHANGE OUR WORK AND APPOINTMENT CULTURE! There are committed and intelligent people out there and ibnn junior positions who deserve better. THE UNCOUTH POLITICALLY APPOINTED GREASEBALLS SHOULD FACE THE SACK!

I find sum of ur comments boring @ lowlest charge 4 using the toilets and give keys to individuals, I agree with kwame, if you charge these marketeers, they will defacate anywhere on the streets, since they want more money and wont use fee paying toilets. Imagine seeing faeces anywhere.I think this country has so many markets where pipo can trade from, PF want popoularity, what we want is sanity….Professor Luo cant even work properly, because she cnt make decisions, how sad! The only problem with us humanbeings is always finding someone to blame when somthing goes wrong. We can change govt today and put another tommorrow but if people’s minds are not changed will oways blame the govt where its not even necessary. Managers at FINDECO House be responsible. pay your bills.

You guys blaming PF for this mess must all have your heads seriously examined. Are you telling me that it is PF who manages FINDECO house. Are they responsible for the collection of rentals at the said building? Lets be realistic, are the water bills that led the utility company to disconnect the water supply accrued in the last 90 days or is it 100 days? NHA management must be made to account for their mismanagement of the building. Alot of money is paid to NHA by occupants to this building. Let us all be responsible. This is gross negligence. What is happening at FINDECO house has nothing to do with PF or MMD but pure irresponsibility from NHA Management. The Fuckers must be sucked period.
