GOV’T Donate Assorted Sports Kits To Kalomo State PRISON

By Martin Mashekwa/ Oliver Samboko

Government has donated assorted sports kits to Kalomo state prison and different schools to promote sports in the district.

Officiating at a hand over ceremony, Kalomo district Commissioner Justus Phiri said that the donation of sports kits to various teams in the district was a testimony of government’s desire to create and enhance recreation facilities in the district.

Phiri said the government decided to give some sports kits to inmates and prison officers at the state prison to keep them active and health dispelling the perception that prisons were notorious environment adding that inmates are human beings who are entitled to human rights as per UN 1946 human rights charter.

Over 10 education zones in Kalomo district benefited from a Government sports kits donation. The kits that consisted of both netball and football jerseys, Netball and Footballs benefited basic schools association and the Kalomo town market.

Phiri urged institutions that benefited to put the donated kits to good use saying the PF government will not tolerate the misuse of its resources.

And in a speech read by Jenipher Mbilikita on behalf of Kalomo District council secretary Alfred Mungalu and District education board secretary Stephen Hamilemba thanked government for the gesture and called on the Government to help the District construct a recreation play park for the youths so that the youths can have somewhere to spend their spare time instead of engaging themselves in illicit activities.

Kalomo the first administrative town in the then North Western Rhodesia, now Zambia, had had no play park since the colonial times some 47 years ago.
