THE Catholic Bishops have said that while they recognised that they had a Catholic President at State House, they will not be used as an excuse to allow abuse of power which has already resulted in appointments that are regionalised.
President Sata who is a Catholic earlier promised to govern the country by Catholic doctrines.
Launching their first heavily worded pastoral letter for 2012, on the several serious short- comings of the Patriotic Front Government, the Zambia Episcopal Conference (ZEC) fronted by some of its bishops stated that the Church’s watchdog role will not be compromised.
”As ZEC, we acknowledge that for the first time in the history of the nation, we have a Catholic President. The fact that there is a Catholic President will not in any way influence how we interact with the Zambian government. We will continue to be guided by the gospel and the social teaching of the Church.
It is our view that appointments to the civil service and diplomatic postings should be transparent, devoid of political patronage, nepotism and regionalism. We urge the Republican President to be more inclusive when making ministerial and other appointments to public office,” stated the letter in part.
The Catholic Bishops said calls to lift the immunity of immediate past President Rupiah Banda were premature without thorough investigations and called the PF anti-graft fight as an act of witch-hunting revenge.
They clergy further stated that there was lack of legal framework to govern the current Constitution-making process.
“Zambia has already spent enormous amounts of money on the Constitution-making process and the public is concerned about the expenditure.”
The Bishops, while commending the anti-graft fight, cautioned government to operate within the confines of the rule of law.
Whilst praising government’s exercise of cutting down on ministries, the Church was concerned about policies that overstretched public resources such as new additional diplomatic missions abroad and creation of new districts.
The Bishops who were fronted by ZEC president Ignatius Chama, Archbishop Telesphore Mpundu, Mongu ‘s Evans Chinyemba and Ignatius Mwebe.

This what we said in the first place that this so called Members of the technical committee drafting the new Zambian constitution are VULTURES!
What is the difference between the current technical committee Member Kabaanda (Ghost) and ZCTU Hikaumba of the NCC? They are all VULTURES devouring our money from poor Zambians who need this money for poverty alleviation! What a shame!
Committee Chairperson Justice Annel Silungwe should be ashamed of himself for chewing our money which can be better spent on POVERTY ALLEVIATION!
Sata should not be HYPOCRITICAL, he stops permanent secretaries from having a — USEFUL workshop 4 them 2 better understand govt protocols but allows Silungwe & his so called This what we said in the first place that this so called Members of the technical committee draftThis what we said in the first place that this so called Members of the technical committee drafting the new Zambian constitution are VULTURES!

This is very true, I was supporting the PF but what Sata is doing is exactly what he condemned Levy. Is he saying only Northern and Luapula have better brains to balance? There are no brains in WP,SP,EP,CP,CBP,NWP? Shame ba president, I am rethinking and I should look out on the young parties around to support in 2016. You are been tribal with your appointments. How many Bembas are holding senior positions and are you saying Bembas are more than other tribes? can they be more than Tongas, Ngonis? Check yourself or you will go off!

calls for lifting immunity of “President Rupiah Banda were premature without thorough investigations and called the PF anti-graft fight as an act of witch-hunting revenge.” This is not what the Bishops said – journalists please report accurately. Do not begin setting up the bishops against the president. He will read the letter and as a listening president he will take the advice where it is due.

“And if your brother sins, go and reprove him in private; if he listens to you, you have won your brother.
“But if he does not listen to you, take one or two more with you, so that BY THE MOUTH OF TWO OR THREE WITNESSES EVERY FACT MAY BE CONFIRMED.
“And if he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax gatherer. Matthew 18:15-17.
The text above is talking about correcting an erring brother. Without going so much into details I would like to advise the Catholic church to be seeking audience with the President on national issues they feel he is not doing well before making their pastoral letter public. That’s Biblical leadership and a Biblical way of correcting and admonishing one another.
Moreover, the Church has a role to advise and pray for national leaders.
So, my question to the Catholic fathers is, did they privately before making their pastoral public engage the President on the pertinent issues contained there in? If so, what was the President’s response? Did he listen to them or not? If they did not engage him, are they following Biblical church leadership on addressing and correcting erring brothers?
Lets not just be quick to condemn and judge. Let’s first understand why people do the things they do, then we will be better placed to advise, admonish, rebuke and correct.

Ala ‘imputi iisula taibula kubwekeshapo, kabili munshebwa aile namafi pabapongoshi’. ” Old habits die hard, and He who takes no advice visited his in-laws with feaces in his pants”. We all know that and Chanda Chimba forewarned us. As for the people of North Western, the president has a History of Hating them for a reason we can not understand. However, We appreciate that the Catholic Church has been quick to realize this and we hope they convince their man.
This is rather sensitve and the president must be made to understand that he is irritating the Zambian people, and so fast for that matter. Divide and rule? No sir it will not work and Zambians are too strongly bonded to be divided. Change or face the consequencies…Zambians are bitter after all the support they rendered to PF.

Simple economics:More income+Less Expenditure = Positive gains.Ba Sata is making a lot of unbudgeted pronouncements without creating more income generating ventures this will lead to break down in the economy.
