Cup-Winning Chipolopolo Skipper, Christopher Katongo, has been picked by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) as the best player of the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.
Tsunami’, as the Chipolopolo captain is known by the fans, inspired his Zambia to a first-ever Nations Cup triumph after losing the finals in 1974 and 1994.
Katongo succeeded Egypt skipper Ahmed Hassan, who was the MVP for the 2010 competition in Angola.
The China-based forward also scored three goals, but it was his Zambia teammate Emmanuel Mayuka, who also scored three goals, who was picked as the Goal King of the AFCON.
Both Katongo and Mayuka as well as goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene and central defender Stoppila Sunzu were picked by CAF in their Tournament XI, while the outstanding Rainford Kalaba made the bench.
Cote d Ivoire won the Fair Play Award.

ZATS THE WAY TO GO! Its good that we are the champions after so many people had very little faith in us. we Thank God that we have proved to the world that its the number of players who play in Europe that win the game but dedication, determination and discipline. A m sure now that negative minds have started reforming and looking at things from the positive point of view.

I am happy for Chris and thw whole national team, for me Mweene equally deserved some individual award, even player of the last game, the final. He managed to stop one penalty and that is what mattered!!!!

One thing that I almost forgot is the manner our President has taken the whole issue(Being Champions) he has not rather I have not seen any one clad in regalia for a political party, but instead for the National team. this is really amazing and showing maturity in our political leaders at least for once we have removed politics from such a very important occasion unlike other politicians we could have heard ichi, icho this, that by the ruling chitechi! imwe this should continue and not end just here. let us come to a realization that there is time for politics and also time for other things. I congratulate and thank you Mr. President for showing ma-under/five the way to do it!
