‘Don’t Blame Roger Chongwe On The BRE Recommendations’

Former Anti Voter Apathy Project (AVAP) Executive Director Bonnie Tembo says Dr. Rodger Chongwe should not be blamed for his commission’s recommendations to the Zambian government on the Mongu riots because he merely adhered to people’s wishes.

Speaking to Qfm exclusively, Mr. Tembo said it is not right to accuse Dr. Chongwe of applying his personal emotions in coming up with a report adding that his recommendations are a reflection of what the people of Barotseland want.

Mr. Tembo has since appealed to government to consider subjecting the matter to a national referendum so that Zambians can decide whether to have the Barotseland agreement of 1964 restored or not.

He has further implored government to avail the Rodger Chongwe commission of inquiry report to the public so that people can debate the matter from an informed point of view.

The Rodger Chongwe commission of inquiry has recommended for the restoration of Barotseland agreement of 1964,but President Michael Sata has categorically stated that he is reluctant to endorse the recommendations.

It leaves much to be desired by all well meaning Zambians. The questions one would ask is why did Mr Sata and his pf govt constitute the commission of Inquiry into the BRE when they knew they would be reluctant to endorse the recommendations? What happens then to the mega resources the pf govt is wasting on the so called commissions of Inquiry? Does this not amount to yet another case of abuse of authority and resources by the pf govt?

THE INQUIRY WAS NOT COMMISSIONED TO MAKE RECOMMENDATIONS ON THE BRE, BUT THE MONGU RIOTS. THEREFORE, TALKING ABOUT THE BRE WAS CLEARLY OUTSIDE THE SCOOP OF THE INQUIRY…. MOST OF YOU THAT HAVE ACTUALLY READ THE BRE WILL CONCUR WITH ME THAT THAT AGREEMENT WAS A PERMANENT AGREEMENT AFTER FULL CONSULTATION OF THE LITUNGA THEN, AND THE BAROTSE COUNCIL. IF YOU THINK EASTERN PROVINCE IS THE POORET PROVINCE, VISIT LUAPULA… IN NATURAL RESOURCES YES THERE IS AN ISSUE BUT THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH GOVERNMENT BUT GOD. BESIDES WHAT IS THERE TO RESTORE ABOUT THE BRE?

PF is just useless. MMD offcourse without RB was better. The Barotse isnt all about demarcating land. You guys should read it and understand. Roger Chongwe isnt dull to recommend it. I suggest we read, understand and then comment. But why did Sata even promise when he knew what Barotse agreement is? he was in government before. I feel pity for the next PF presidential candidate coz izankalako ruff.

    Lets read guys.

For the resources surely this is a waste, can our gvt please stop creating more commissions of Inquiries for the sake of saving our mega resources and
concentrate on developing the country and also solve the issue of civil servant’s salaries, 4% we read in the post paper this morning is a thorn in fresh.

I’m a Lozi and currently in love with a Bemba woman to me i think its abit late for us to start thinking of separating from Zambia due to issues of inter-mariages and so forth though i know that issue is genuine.Lets allow the parliament to review the Chongwe commission of inquiry’s report and then decide but what i can say is lets just work on developing our under-developed province(WP) and be united as Zambians.Kihona.

Who were the members of the Chongwe commission of inquiry? I hope it was not dominated by Lozis and those who were against the regime of RB. I believe the commissioners were guided by their emotions and did not think through the issues. The people advocating for the restoration of the BA64 should handle this issue in a mature way otherwise there will be a lot of resentment against Lozis throughout Zambia.

It is true WP is poor, but tell me what made it poor? Why do my brothers hate MAGANDE? IS IT NOT THAT HE TOLD THEM THE TRUTH ABOUT HOW THE LITUNGA HAS BECOME TOO BIGTHAT HE OWN EVERYTHING- rabbits, grass, land fish aie etc you name. Basically the entire country is poor, no sinle region can claim to have been favoured by any leader. As for my brothers the Lozis, what you are asking for is ok as long as it ios in the spirit of the BA- NOT SECEDING. What happens to my children who are colourds(i.e. my wife is Lozi)? and my nephews, nieces- too many to mention who arte all “colourds”? I WILL BE THE FIRST ONE TO APPLY FOR LOZI/BAROTSE CITIZENSHIP. The COI on the mongu riots was formed to establish the cause of the riots. Most of you here may now have to be told that the riots were caused by the desire of Barotseland issue that the agreement be restored.

When rupiah refused to allow people to demonstrate, he called police to fight his own people.

Surely, can’t you see that the riots emerge from the need to restore the agreement that foolish Kaunda sat on.

Chomgweand mingomba, and the other commissioners are right.

Chilima wa zafwete, among the nine commissioners were mungomba Willard, chief nalubamba, chomgwe himself, and if am not mistaken, several non lozi speaking people.

    Check the details.

These guys are interested in Zambia remaining what it is,and this will occur by honouring the BA64.

from the outbursts of people on this page showing such ignorance of facts, one can just for once agree with Michael sata when he said once that most zambians were not only robbed democrasy by KK, but he also robbed them off their brains.
what many people from zed do not understand is that the reason GRZ isd refusing to resore and implement the barotseland agreement is that that agreement calls for a federal kind of state where politicians actually lose power to the people through the african democrasy of chiefs. GRZ do not want to share power with the chiefs and peoples of barpotseland. thats why you will probably never hear lamba chies, kaonde chiefs, tonga chiefs etc who were governmend through barotseland ever complaing. during that time, they enjoyed absolute soverignity over their chiefdoms with powers to mange investments, taxes, wildlife, invirolmenatl issues etc. and the chiefs and indunas used to be paid for it, unlike now when they are made to be peupers from the central government! what one need to reserch is how the people of barotseland governmend themselves before 1964 and you will understand that alot of people are missing those old days. wheather you chaps like it or not, barotseland will be rstored. Final.
