The PF Government has refuted media reports that the Copperbelt University (CBU) has been closed indefinitely following the hail-storm that blew off the roofs of two buildings at the Campus.
And government has been caught in a web of lies by contradicting itself after an insight by Kitwetimes revealed that infact the University is closed because of the hail-storm that blew off the roofs.
Education Minister John Phiri has told Parliament that the time the incident happened the University was already on routine which has since been extended to allow for repair works to the damaged buildings before the University can reopen.
Dr Phiri says the University was due to reopen on 3rd March for the 2012/2013 academic year.
He says Government and the University management is hoping that the University will reopen within a month after the repairs works have been completed.
Dr Phiri says the University Council will meet tomorrow to give direction as to when exactly the University will reopen.
He adds that the ministry has put in place a team of experts to assess the extent of damage and design corrective measures.
He further stated that ministry of Education is determined to ensure that the Copperbelt University reopens as quickly as the University Council directs.
BUT a Kitwetimes check on the University website showed that the communique by the university management was that the postponement was to facilitate for repair works to the two structures whose roofs were blown off.
Below is a snapshot from the CBU website..

Ba tumfweko get your facts right before publishing your news.actually the minister is right,CBU has never been opened, the time the hailstorm blew off the roof of the female hostels and school of business, students were still on vacation and instead of opening on 4th march the date was postponed indefinately to allow for repair works.we students are yet to open when repair works are finallised, correct your heading “CBU HAS CLOSED INDEFINATELY”

From both explanations by the minister and the universty authority, it seems the university will be closed pending…surely not indefinately unless the word indefinate has assumed a diffrnt meaning

we are tired of these politicians talking rubbish. what we want if for them to get the money which they want to spend on printing new currency and spend it on rehabilitating UNZA and CBU, end of story.
